Chapter 966: Chapter 967 Wu Xiaoya Fell Ill

"Ah!" With a strange scream, Cao Heyang ran down the mountain like a madman.

His speed was practically like lightning, leaving Song Xiaodong dumbfounded. This guy had clearly unleashed his hidden potential. At such a pace, running a hundred meters wouldn’t be a problem. Despite Song Xiaodong’s own physical fitness, catching up to him was absolutely impossible.

But Song Xiaodong’s goal had been achieved. He didn’t believe those people would dare come back here to cause trouble again.

Song Xiaodong dealt with the two corpses he had taken care of. Such a gruesome scene—it was best not to let Miao Qingqing and the others see it.

Cao Heyang kept running, eventually reaching the beach, where he collapsed to his knees with a loud thud, vomiting uncontrollably.

"What happened? What happened? Where are the other two?" Li Fangding and a few other men hurried over.

"Dead! They’re dead... all dead..." Cao Heyang shuddered and then began screaming hysterically.

"Dead? How did they die?" Li Fangding demanded loudly.

At this point, Cao Heyang could only shake his head violently, clutching his head and screaming at the top of his lungs, as if he had gone insane from fright.

It wasn’t until several hours later, after Cao Heyang had slept, that he regained his senses and recounted what had happened.

Li Fangding’s group listened, their faces turning pale.

"That guy is practically a Devil. He knows how to set traps. They died so horribly... truly, it was awful..." Cao Heyang’s voice was trembling as he spoke.

Li Fangding’s face darkened as he swept his gaze over the others. They immediately stepped back in fear, clearly terrified. They were just ordinary people who had been driven to their limits in this situation, not hardened criminals. Now, taking the enormous risk of going after Song Xiaodong was beyond their courage.

Li Fangding said in a low voice, "Don’t worry. I won’t send you to your deaths. We won’t go after him anymore."

Everyone let out a sigh of relief.

"But remember this: two of our people were killed by him. If we’re finally rescued one day, we can use this incident to get back at him."

"Right, right, we’ll remember that. That guy killed two of us!"

Everyone immediately understood what Li Fangding meant. This arrangement suited them perfectly.

Li Fangding continued, "From now on, let the women handle gathering fruit. We’ll focus on catching seafood in the sea."

"But..." One of them felt a chill down his spine and stammered, unable to finish the sentence.

Li Fangding snorted and said, "If that guy dares to even harm the women, it would only add to his crimes. However, I don’t think he’d attack them. Besides, he wouldn’t dare come down here to mess with us. After all, we’ve got more people, and we’re stationed on the wide-open beach. If he tries anything, he’d just be courting death."

Everyone’s nerves settled slightly, and they went to inform the women to start gathering fruit.

The women didn’t think too much about it. They had only seen Cao Heyang sprinting back and being taken aside by Li Fangding and the others. They had no idea what was happening.

And just as Li Fangding predicted, Song Xiaodong didn’t harm the women. They were victims too, and he wouldn’t harm them without reason.

Back at the cave, Miao Qingqing and Miao Xuanxuan were both looking at Song Xiaodong nervously and exclaimed, "Something’s wrong—Xiaoya has a fever."

Song Xiaodong immediately frowned. "This is trouble," he muttered, hurrying over to Wu Xiaoya.

Wu Xiaoya’s face was flushed, and her forehead felt blazing hot to the touch.

In ordinary circumstances, a fever might not seem like a major illness, but fevers were inherently dangerous. In a city, with hospitals, medicines, and even basic physical remedies, there were plenty of ways to bring down a fever quickly, ensuring no complications occurred.

But on this desolate island, with no medical supplies or treatments available, even something as simple as physical cooling was difficult to implement. If the fever persisted, it could easily be fatal.

Soaking in the sea for so long had left Wu Xiaoya with underlying health issues. The past two days of constant stress and mental strain had suppressed her condition, but now that she had relaxed slightly, the illness erupted, leaving her burning with an intense fever.

"Husband, we have to cool her down, or things could get serious," Miao Qingqing said anxiously.

Song Xiaodong nodded. "I’ll see if there’s any fever-reducing medicine around here," he said, rushing out of the cave.

He searched the island for a long time but returned in disappointment. The island was small and barren, with very few plant species, none of which could be used to reduce a fever.

If his True Qi had recovered, he could have used it to help. But his True Qi was too weak to be effective, leaving him with only physical remedies as an option.

However, Song Xiaodong did manage to find a few mineral water bottles, which he filled with water. For the past two days, they had relied on eating fruit for hydration. Now that they had bottles, they could collect water from the mountain stream to drink.

Returning to the cave, Miao Qingqing immediately grabbed the bottles. "How did it go?" she asked anxiously. But seeing only empty bottles in Song Xiaodong’s hands, she realized he hadn’t found any medicine and frowned. "Her fever’s getting worse—she’s starting to talk nonsense."

Song Xiaodong rushed into the cave. Wu Xiaoya was lying there, mumbling incoherently, her words indistinguishable.

"Place these bottles under her armpits and pour water over her palms," Song Xiaodong directed Miao Qingqing and Miao Xuanxuan.

The two hurriedly followed his instructions. Miao Xuanxuan promptly unbuttoned Wu Xiaoya’s uniform. Beneath her flight attendant outfit, she wore only a bra, now exposed as all her clothes had been removed. Her skin was flushed red from the fever.

Ignoring propriety, Song Xiaodong helped Miao Xuanxuan position the water bottles correctly.

Wu Xiaoya’s fever was severe. In no time, the water bottles under her arms reached her body temperature, and the water they had poured was used up. Song Xiaodong quickly went to refill the bottles from the stream.

This cycle repeated every half hour or so, leaving him utterly exhausted.

After three or four hours, Wu Xiaoya’s fever finally subsided slightly, but soon after, she began complaining about feeling cold.

Song Xiaodong grew even more worried. This fluctuation between hot and cold meant her fever hadn’t truly broken. Such erratic changes were often the prelude to even greater danger.
