Return to the City: The Strongest King
Chapter 946 - 947: Your Luck Only This One Time

Chapter 946: Chapter 947: Your Luck Only This One Time

Song Xiaodong brought the two of them to a gambling table. This table was for dice games—betting on big or small, or specific numbers—simple and direct.

Miao Xuanxuan leaned in close and whispered in Miao Qingqing’s ear, "Our hubby is incredible at guessing dice points. It’s super easy for him to win money."

Miao Qingqing nodded. She wasn’t even surprised. With how strong Song Xiaodong was now, his cultivation level of True Qi was exceptionally high. Even though she didn’t understand True Qi, hearing Song Xiaodong talk about it enough gave her a general idea.

But playing by outright cheating to win would be boring, so the three of them placed bets casually and randomly. Winning meant light-hearted fun; losing wasn’t worrisome. After all, Song Xiaodong was there to back them up.

When it came to gambling in casinos, there were always a few unwritten rules. Song Xiaodong couldn’t afford to go too overboard with winning. If he did, he’d surely end up on the blacklist, and next time they wouldn’t even be allowed in.

So Song Xiaodong only occasionally intervened, helping Miao Qingqing and Miao Xuanxuan recover their losses so they could enjoy themselves thoroughly.

As the three were having fun, Jinglin Zuoye joined them, directly handing a stack of chips to the person originally sitting next to Miao Qingqing. That person immediately understood and gave up their spot to Jinglin Zuoye.

"Mr. Jinglin, we were classmates after all. I hope you won’t start any trouble here," Miao Qingqing said, frowning slightly as she issued the mild warning.

Jinglin Zuoye smiled faintly and said, "Miao Qingqing, you know I’ve always liked you. Now that you’re married, my heart is heavy, and I’m not convinced. I want to see what he’s got to deserve you."

Miao Qingqing was visibly annoyed. This guy, Jinglin Zuoye, was truly exhausting. With a steely gaze, she said, "Who I marry is my business. It’s not something Mr. Jinglin needs to concern himself with."

Jinglin Zuoye didn’t react with anger, instead grinning as he said, "It’s no trouble at all. You know what kind of person I am, Miao Qingqing. If I’ve set my sights on something, it’s not easy for anyone to take it away from me."

"So what are you trying to do now?" Miao Qingqing said coldly. If it had been in the past, she might’ve been intimidated by Jinglin Zuoye, given his ties to the criminal underworld. But now, things were different. She wasn’t the same student she used to be, and with Song Xiaodong around, she felt no fear.

Jinglin Zuoye said, "Nothing much. I just want to play a game with him. He’s gambling here, isn’t he? Let’s gamble. A side bet. Whoever guesses wrong loses. And the stakes? They’ll be ten times whatever the house would pay out. For example, if you bet on big or small, the odds are 1-to-1; if you win, I’ll pay you ten times. If you hit a specific number—normally 15 times the payout—I’ll pay you ten times that. What do you say?"

"Ridiculous!" Miao Qingqing scoffed.

Jinglin Zuoye squinted at Song Xiaodong and said, "What’s wrong? Don’t dare to bet? Are you afraid you don’t have what it takes and don’t want to risk losing big?"

Song Xiaodong turned and looked at Jinglin Zuoye, saying, "Alright, let’s do it. A bet’s a bet."

Miao Xuanxuan immediately grew excited, "We’ve got someone handing us money, hubby! Now we can really have some fun!"

Song Xiaodong nodded. "There are always fools willing to do this. Can’t help it."

Jinglin Zuoye let out a cold laugh and said, "Remember, the bet is ten times the amount, settled in US dollars. Bet one thousand, and I’ll pay out ten thousand."

Miao Xuanxuan snorted, "Hey, whatever-your-name-is, what if you lose and refuse to pay up?"

Jinglin Zuoye responded casually, "Do you think I, Jinglin Zuoye, would shirk a debt? As long as you dare to bet, if I lose I’ll definitely pay. If you lose, I’m not worried if you refuse to pay. I’ll personally come to your house and collect it."

Miao Qingqing glanced at Song Xiaodong, who smiled and said, "I can’t back down, or he’d look down on me."

Jinglin Zuoye laughed and immediately threw down some chips, saying, "Ha! At least you’ve got some guts. Alright, let’s start. I’m betting one thousand on odd."

Song Xiaodong glanced at Jinglin Zuoye, then casually threw down one thousand chips on even.

The banker pressed a button, and the dice in the dice cup started spinning. Unlike some tables, this one didn’t require manual shaking; it was fully automated.

Song Xiaodong squinted, and the dice’s motion in the cup unfolded clearly in his mind. When they finally stopped turning, he knew precisely what the result would be—it was even.

The dice cup opened, and the banker announced the points. Jinglin Zuoye laughed, saying, "Looks like you’ve got some lucky streak. Note this down; I’ve lost ten thousand already."

The man accompanying Jinglin Zuoye immediately started logging the results on an iPad, while Miao Qingqing and Miao Xuanxuan couldn’t care less about keeping track.

Over the next few rounds, both Jinglin Zuoye and Song Xiaodong alternated between winning and losing.

"This kind of bet is so dull. The odds are too low; winning isn’t even exciting. I’ll bet on a specific number this time. I’m betting twelve points, ten thousand." Jinglin Zuoye said with a grin as he tossed a stack of chips.

Miao Qingqing and Miao Xuanxuan immediately grew nervous. A ten-thousand-dollar wager—if he guessed right, the house would pay out fifteen times. Add the tenfold agreed upon between them, and that would be 150 times. A ten-thousand-dollar bet turned into a one-and-a-half million dollar gamble.

Of course, if Jinglin Zuoye missed, then nothing would happen. The problem was if he hit.

Song Xiaodong gave Jinglin Zuoye a glance and said, "That’s quite a bold move. If I bet less, it’d seem like I’m missing out. Alright, I’ll match ten thousand. Qingqing, Xuanxuan, what number should I bet on?"

Miao Qingqing hesitated, but Miao Xuanxuan was brimming with confidence and said casually, "Bet thirteen, one point higher than his."

Song Xiaodong smiled, "Alright, we’ll bet thirteen points." With that, he threw in ten thousand chips.

Jinglin Zuoye laughed heartily, "Good, I like exhilarating bets like these. Let’s go!"

Technically, bets could be placed after the dice were shaken, allowing someone with exceptional hearing to deduce the result. But neither man waited for the shake; it seemed entirely up to luck.

The dice started spinning. Song Xiaodong clearly knew the dice were showing one, three, and six, totaling ten points—neither man had guessed correctly.

But when the dice cup opened, the three dice revealed themselves as three, three, and six—exactly twelve points.

"Ha... looks like my luck really is amazing!" Jinglin Zuoye laughed loudly.

Song Xiaodong squinted slightly, his gaze sweeping faintly over the banker before he smiled lightly and said, "Your luck is good, but maybe only this time."
