Chapter 905: Chapter 906: Human Lives Are Equal in Value
"What kind of car accident?" Song Xiaodong immediately asked.
"A bus collided with a large truck. There were over thirty people on the bus, and it’s less than three kilometers away from our hospital. The injured will be brought in soon."
Everyone hurried to the emergency room, including Song Xiaodong. In a major car accident like this, the timing of rescue efforts is extremely critical. Any delay could result in significant casualties, and naturally, Song Xiaodong could not stand idly by.
Lin Su’er was continuously receiving phone calls at this time, all from city officials, urging the Second Hospital to make every possible effort to treat the injured.
Such a large-scale car accident was undoubtedly a major incident for the city as well. Both the Party Secretary and the Mayor placed great importance on it and stated they would be arriving shortly.
Within a few minutes of waiting in the emergency room, the first batch of patients was brought in—a total of six people, all with severe injuries, including traumatic brain injuries, fractures, and internal organ damage.
Everyone immediately got to work in a tense, fast-paced rescue effort.
Song Xiaodong chose the most severely injured patient and began treating them with acupuncture. Although he habitually carried only a few silver needles on him, several custom sets of silver needles had been specially prepared for him at the Second Hospital for such emergencies, which both he and He Wenbai occasionally used.
Guiding his True Qi, Song Xiaodong assessed the patient’s main injuries. A few silver needles were swiftly inserted into the patient’s body, followed by the infusion of True Qi. After five minutes, he stopped and handed this patient over to the rest of the team before moving to the bedside of another critically injured individual.
At this moment, his task wasn’t to completely heal any one patient but to ensure they survived. Treating other injuries could be left to the other doctors, allowing him to conserve both time and energy.
"Hurry, hurry! This is Deputy County Chief Cao’s relative," said two nurses as they hurriedly tried to push a patient into the room.
The emergency room was already crowded and couldn’t accommodate additional patients. Forcing another person in would undoubtedly disrupt the ongoing rescue efforts.
Song Xiaodong immediately glared at them and barked, "Take him out."
"But... this is Deputy County Chief Cao’s relative..." The nurses were startled and hurried to explain.
Song Xiaodong’s face darkened as he said coldly, "I don’t care who the Deputy County Chief is. In here, all patients are treated equally—human lives are not divided by status."
Lin Su’er quickly added, "Why are you still standing there? Take him out."
The two nurses, unfamiliar with Song Xiaodong but well aware of Vice Director Lin’s authority, immediately pushed the patient back outside.
"What happened? Why are they pushing him out? Why aren’t they treating him?" A woman in her thirties shouted angrily.
One of the nurses quickly explained, "The doctors inside are currently rescuing patients, and there’s no room or manpower available at the moment. You’ll have to wait for now."
The woman instantly started screaming hysterically, "Do you know who this is? This is Deputy County Chief Cao’s father-in-law! Get him treated immediately!"
The nurse quickly replied, "Madam, we understand how you feel, but human lives are all equal. The doctors inside are working as fast as they can. Please remain calm so they can free up their hands and treat your family member as soon as possible."
"No way!" The woman shouted furiously. "Those others are just lowly lives—if they die, so what? This is Deputy County Chief Cao’s father-in-law! If anything happens to him, can you bear the consequences?"
At that moment, Lin Su’er stepped out. The two nurses hurriedly said, "Vice Director Lin, this person—"
The woman, upon hearing Lin Su’er was the vice director, immediately rushed over and said anxiously, "Vice Director Lin, hello. I’m Deputy County Chief Cao’s wife, and this is my father. Please, I beg you, treat my father first. He is severely injured."
This woman clearly tailored her behavior to the person she was speaking to. Knowing that a hospital’s vice director was harder to offend, she refrained from being overly aggressive.
Lin Su’er calmly replied, "There’s no need to worry. A spot inside will soon open up to treat your father."
The woman quickly said, "Can’t you push someone else’s patient back out and let my father go in first? Old Cao is on his way."
Lin Su’er firmly shook her head and said, "That’s not possible. We understand how anxious you are, but the other families outside are just as worried."
The woman frowned slightly, but Lin Su’er had already turned to address Song Xiaodong, who had just stepped out. "Dongzi, what are you doing out here?"
Song Xiaodong said, "The patients inside are no longer in life-threatening condition. I’m here to check on anyone outside who might need urgent care."
Hearing this, the woman immediately stepped forward and said, "See my father first!"
Song Xiaodong ignored her, instead carefully examining each of the patients waiting outside the emergency room. He then pointed to two individuals and said, "Bring them in first."
"Hey, didn’t you hear me? See my father first!" the woman shouted angrily.
Song Xiaodong’s expression darkened as he replied, "Your father is not in immediate danger. If the other two are not treated promptly, they will die."
"How dare you speak to me like that! Do you know who I am? I’m Deputy County Chief Cao’s wife!"
Song Xiaodong replied coldly, "As far as I’m concerned, no one has special privileges here. Whether you’re related to the county chief or the mayor, treatment will be prioritized based on the severity of the injuries. Your father is stable for the next hour, and I will treat him during that time."
With those words, he turned and went back into the emergency room.
"Who does he think he is? A mere doctor dares to act so arrogantly toward me!" The woman’s face turned red with anger.
Meanwhile, the other families, though deeply anxious, felt a sense of reassurance. If even the Deputy County Chief’s relative wasn’t given special treatment, it meant that the hospital truly prioritized patients based on their condition. Those not treated immediately likely weren’t in life-threatening danger.
A group of important city leaders, including the Mayor and Secretary, arrived hurriedly.
Lin Su’er quickly greeted them. "The critically injured individuals are already being treated inside. Those outside are not in imminent danger and will soon receive proper care."
"Will there be any fatalities?" This was the Mayor’s primary concern.
"There should be none among those already brought in," Lin Su’er replied confidently. She had absolute faith in Song Xiaodong. If he hadn’t mentioned fatalities, it meant no one would die.
"Good, good!" The leaders collectively breathed a sigh of relief.
Subsequently, the city leaders began consoling the patients’ families. Before long, one by one, more patients were wheeled out from the emergency room. A nurse whispered something to Lin Su’er, and she nodded in acknowledgment.
