Reincarnation Paradise -
Chapter 955: The Void Arena
The registration area of the Void Arena was a vast hall, bustling with numerous contestants who had been waiting for some time. As Su Xiao entered the hall, countless eyes turned towards him. Among the onlookers were humanoid beings covered in scales and tall, blue-skinned humanoids resembling the Na'vi from Avatar. However, these were not Na'vi but Dorchians, one of the wealthiest races in the Void.
"Is that a Shadow of Extinction?" "He doesn't look like much." "I thought Shadows of Extinction were supposed to be towering figures, but he seems pretty short. They're all humans." "What's your issue with humans? Humans are one of the top three races in the Void."
The contestants buzzed with conversation, though none rushed forward to attack Su Xiao. Not everyone harboured hostility towards him, though one male human mage kept a close watch on him. This mage was not from the Reincarnation Paradise but one who had painstakingly learned magic bit by bit, similar to the academic mages in the Reincarnation Paradise and equally formidable.
"Such a repulsive aura," the male mage muttered, with elements swirling around him—not just one, but a combination of wind and water elements. The fusion could result in various effects, such as low temperatures, cold steam, or air manipulation. This elemental wasn't merely combining elements to exhibit new properties; he had fused them, creating unknown effects only revealed through combat.
As a natural enemy, the Elementalist found Su Xiao very unpleasant, though he didn't harbour any murderous intent. The era of the Shadows of Extinction was thousands of years ago, and for this 31-year-old mage, the enmity between mages and Shadows of Extinction was a thing of legend. No ancestors in his family had fallen to a Shadow, so he wouldn't risk his life over ancient tales.
Su Xiao had anticipated this. Generally, mages without direct enmity towards the Shadows wouldn't seek trouble with him, just as he wouldn't hunt unrelated mages. He had inherited the powers of the Shadows of Extinction, not a vendetta, and he didn't harbour a deep-seated desire to eradicate anyone.
As long as these mages didn't provoke him, he wouldn't bother them. He knew the downfall of the Shadows of Extinction stemmed from making too many enemies, a mistake he intended to avoid. Unfortunately, some grudges couldn't be resolved, like the one harboured by a human brute glaring at Su Xiao with murderous intent.
This brute's home planet had been destroyed ten years ago by someone known as the Blade Demon, once a Shadow of Extinction. With a blade of slaughter in hand and a mind consumed by demonic intent, the Blade Demon was a top-tier threat in the Void. Unable to seek vengeance against such a formidable foe, the brute transferred his hatred to Su Xiao.
In general, the new generation in the Void had little concept of the Shadows of Extinction. The real trouble came from the ancient beings who lived during the same era as the Shadows, beings who could live for millennia. If any of these ancient enemies fought Su Xiao, he would stand no chance.
At the registration window, a scantily clad woman with snake hair was distributing badges. A long line of contestants stretched out before her."No cutting in line, no physical or verbal attacks on others. Lasertine people, no urinating or defecating in public. Munsi people, no loud noises. Gluk people, keep your shoes on—your feet are like biochemical weapons. Anyone who disobeys will be petrified."
The snake-haired woman sighed. Managing so many races with different customs was a hassle. For instance, 'Nikah' people couldn't be too close to 'Bendorah' people because their brain waves interfered with each other, leading to indiscriminate attacks. There were many such prohibitions.
Su Xiao waited in line, noticing the three Chinese brothers nearby, chatting with a rock-like creature about shampoo brands. The youngest brother was enthusiastically promoting a bottle of shampoo to the rock creature, who seemed utterly bewildered, as it had no hair and likely didn't need shampoo.
"Bro, I'm telling you, this stuff will make the... whatever that is on your head super smooth. Just use 'Pantene' and see for yourself!" The youngest brother opened the shampoo bottle, letting the rock creature sniff it.
"Smell anything?" he asked confidently. "Um..." The rock creature scratched the grass-like growths on its head, looking embarrassed.
Witnessing this, Bubu's eyes gleamed, sensing a business opportunity. "Woof," Bubu barked. "It's time to show off your charm," Su Xiao said, handing Bubu a large bag of household items from his storage space. Bubu, now equipped with a high-tech tablet, began searching for 'prey,' soon targeting a three-eyed female.
After about five minutes of waiting, Su Xiao approached the window. The snake-haired woman glanced up at him. "Hmm? Are you the Shadow of Extinction from the flyer?" she asked, handing him a badge labelled number 106. From now on, Su Xiao was contestant number 106 in the arena.
"Want to buy death insurance?" The snake-haired woman winked at him. Su Xiao had no idea what death insurance was, nor did he have Void currency. The woman's attitude surprised him. "You're not one of Alice's subordinates?" "Of course not," she replied, disappointed he wasn't buying insurance.
"The Void Arena is indeed under Alice's territory, but there are three hosts. Alice represents the Devil's Castle. If you buy death insurance, I'll tell you about the other two factions." She was quite the salesperson, though Su Xiao declined. "No thanks." "Stingy. You're blocking the next contestant. Move, or I'll petrify you."
Su Xiao's low charm attribute showed its effect. The snake-haired woman offered no more information. Despite this, Su Xiao gleaned some important details.
There were 260 contestants. The top 20 would pass the fifth game, after which Su Xiao could choose to return to the Reincarnation Paradise or continue competing. The top three would receive significant rewards from the Void.
