Reincarnated To Evolve My Bee Empire -
Chapter 428: Telepathy X+I
Chapter 428: Telepathy X+I
Oh, how could I think about new abilities when my sexy, big-chested wife was already thinking about breeding me and these abilities?
I had to shake my head and curl my antennae to pull my mind out of the gutter. Then I refocused on the system screens and its voice in my head.
In my status appeared a new line.
〔Limit break points〕: 1
’Okay... And how do I use those? The morphotyping screen, right?’
I opened the screen of my personal morphotype. Immediately I noticed that the genes that had the max tier had new glowing buttons near them with letters "LIMIT BREAK".
My finger hovered over the button near next to the "Increased Venom Potency XXX (MAX)".
’Aha. And limit break points are split between the morphotypes or shared like gene points, system?’
<Your amount of limit break points means an allowed amount of limit breaks per each morphotype, not in total.>
’Good, good... And pressing this button won’t lock me into picking the limit break for this gene, won’t it, system? I just want to see the description of the next tier!’
<Pressing this button won’t lock you into purchasing the next tier, user. You will have to confirm the purchase first. You won’t be able to see the description of the tier before purchase.>
I opened my mouth, then closed it.
’Why?! What’s the point in this?! Who designed and why does he want to make my life harder? The gods are supposed to be of help!’
The system didn’t reply.
I grit my teeth and let out a long, annoyed breath. This didn’t help much, so I put my head on Ambrosia’s shoulder.
I had some theories about why this system could plausibly be made so user-unfriendly.
Perhaps the rules of the gods’ game forced them to add downsides to the system, so it cost them fewer "points" or "influence" or whatever they used to afford doing actions in the Game of Evolution.
Perhaps this was just another moment of spite from the Goddess of Bees. She was definitely more spiteful than cunning.
But both of those were just theories, and Dalmanrach—the only one who actually gave me answers—was never around for long enough to confirm or deny them.
I looked at the list of my maxed out genes again. There were many of them that I could limit break: venom, fertility, regeneration, electricity, thick skin, immunity, two genes for my "stinger-gun", reduced sleep, telepathy, flight...
One of these genes was not like the others.
I pressed the "LIMIT BREAK" button, then confirmed my choice. As soon as the confirmation window disappeared, a new window appeared in its place.
〔Limit break confirmed. ’Telepathy X (MAX)’ will be transformed into ’Telepathy X+I (MAX)’.〕
〔Telepathy X (MAX): allows sending telepathic messages for up to 100 thousand kilometers, reading surface thoughts at a range of 10 kilometers, and reading deeper thoughts at a range of 10 kilometers. Also allows sending an astral projection within the range of 100 thousand kilometers.〕
The range of this telepathic ability was ten times larger than my ordinary one. Now my telepathy could actually cover the entire "original" Bee Empire and even most of the human territories that were just added to it.
But this upgrade alone wasn’t incredible enough. I now had the power to create an astral projection! Whatever the hell that meant was still a question, of course—but I was sure it was something cool as the iceberg that sank the Titanic.
The new mental power was already buzzing in my mind! Either that, or I was having problems keeping myself from uncontrollably reading thoughts of millions of creatures in my new range.
Ambrosia put a hand over my back and rubbed her cheek on the side of my head. My new telepathic power revealed to me all that was going on inside her head, almost without my prompting.
Although she was aroused by the very idea of my seed growing even stronger, she had sensed my tension and did this gesture, trying to calm me again. Ambrosia knew well that her touch and smell were calming to me—even more than to any other bees.
And she cared a lot about my wellbeing. She worried I might get an upgrade like "precognition" that will force me to spend days in suffering just to learn how to keep the new power in check.
The amount of information was overwhelming, but also very touching. I couldn’t help but smile... And to focus on it some more.
Focusing on Ambrosia’s presence helped me to block out everything else. And just like when I was learning how to use previous tiers of the telepathy gene, I gradually wrangled the control of this one.
Finally, I gave Amby a grateful kiss and moved away.
"This was something else, phew! I had to get used to this upgrade a little," I said, tapping the side of my head. "But it seems awesome already—a ten times increase of my telepathy range. And... the future Beehounds can get this boost, too! And Hardbees—anyone with the ’Telepathy X’ gene. It’s an upgrade to my morphotypes."
Ambrosia’s eyes widened.
"Ten times? This will make out telepathic chains ten times faster! And will free so many bees from working in them..."
I nodded energetically.
"Yes. I want to spread this upgrade as soon as possible. There are other upgrades, too... But first, there’s another thing I must test. The upgraded version of telepathy has another ability that I just want to try out..."
I wasn’t sure how it would work, but the instinctual knowledge of how to activate this ability came with the gene.
"Is it dangerous?" Amby asked with some concern. "Today was a long day. You need less sleep than I do, but you worked until late at night yesterday. Attendants have told me. You should rest now. Since the upgrade is in the morphotypes, we don’t have to hurry too much with making the next generation..."
"Oh, c’mon, Amby—you can’t talk like you are only sleeping with me for my seed! What about my incredible sex skills, huh?"
