Reincarnated To Evolve My Bee Empire
Chapter 422: I am considering making the way back to the Hive Supremo on foot

Chapter 422: I am considering making the way back to the Hive Supremo on foot

"Oh... We are finally here!" I said, poking my head out of the cabin’s window. "Look at this, Amby!"

After four days of travel, our dragons had landed on the roof of the Naregan Royal Hall.

I heard cheers from the bees sitting on the backs of the other dragons. Everybody was happy to arrive at last.

From here, all of us could see a breathtaking view of a large part of the surrounding city.

It was built on a fork in a river and stitched it with bridges like some sort of scar. Blocky houses—each like a miniature mountain—with flat roofs spanned all the way to the horizon, built without any street grid. Many of them had entire forests on top of them or between them. Humans walked or rode down the streets—even these giants looked tiny from this distance.

The scenery was both familiar and alien at the same time—like something from a fantasy story, except stranger. It created a sense within me akin to an uncanny valley. Despite the creepiness, I couldn’t take my eyes away from the place.

The meeting point with the bee enclave of the Naregan capital city was still kilometers away, but compared to the enormous distance we’ve already traversed, this was the finish line.

Ambrosia pulled herself partially free from her safety straps and looked from the windows together with me. When I turned to study her expression, I saw a flash of wonder in her eyes—but it quickly became weariness.

"I can think only about returning to solid ground again for longer than a night. This journey... After experiencing it, I am considering making the way back to the Hive Supremo on foot. Or even moving the capital of the Bee Empire to this place..."

From her expression, I couldn’t tell if Amby was talking seriously or not.

"C’mon, it wasn’t *that* bad, right? I mean, nothing amazing about sitting in a box for an entire day with only a few breaks, but it’s over now! And it was only four days!" I put my hands on Ambrosia’s shoulders and turned her toward me to study her better. "This... this wasn’t *that* terrible, no?"

I was beginning to regret convincing Amby to come with me!

The entire length of the journey she stoically bore the shaking, the boredom, and the general lack of lifestyle she was used to. I thought this was because the discomfort wasn’t so terrible—well, I could bear it, and so could every other bee—but Amby’s outburst right now made me worry.

She wasn’t prone to complaining without reason. And she really looked bone-weary right now.

"This all is unnatural," she replied. Whether she meant the journey, the human city, or something else, I had no idea. Despite that, she smiled at me reassuringly. "I was joking, Necty... Mostly. This journey took its toll on me, but I’m glad that I could take it with you after all. At the very least, I understand a little more of what you are going through every time you travel far from the Empire."

I smiled in relief.

"Great, then let’s get our deserved rest!"

The human city had another city inside of it, built right inside its Royal Hall—sub-hive Explanatoria. The name was given to it by Researcher Bee Explanatory, who took a residence here, researching everything related to humans together with fifty thousand other bees.

Today, Hive Explanatoria was hosting many guests who came for the ceremony of unification of bees and humans. Besides Researcher Explanatory and Agent Whisper (who were permanent residents) there was Grand Commander Malevolence (the leader of defense forces in all of Naregan Kingdom), and of course, hundreds of bees from the crew and support personnel of Nectus II.

As I noticed when our group entered the Royal Hall, there were a lot of human guests as well. Although I didn’t know the Naregan language, the amount of activity in the halls was obviously above average.

Hive Explanatoria was built not in any random place, but in its own shrine venerated (and left respectfully alone) by humans.

My group was greeted there with the usual amount of excitement. When our dragons landed in front of the hive, an entire swarm of bees flew out to greet us. Most of them stayed away, some came closer to help with moving our possession from the dragons’ backs, and some—like Whisper—just came to greet me and Amby.

As we got off Woe, I asked Whisper about the humans and she confirmed my guess.

"You noticed it right, Father! Humans are currently working as hard as bees to prepare for the ceremony... Too bad they only started this a few days ago. At first they were so slow, I wanted to sting some of them!" Agent Whisper explained, shaking her head in disappointment. "Those are just humans for you. Even the best of them are lazy and self-centered, thinking only about their next meal and their next rest!"

I glanced at Amby and decided that since humans were badmouthed already...

"Honestly, after the journey, I’m thinking only about my next meal and my next rest, too. We have two days before the ceremony, so the first one can certainly be spent on lying around and resting."

"Sure, sure," Whisper nodded easily. "It’s such a joy to see both of you after this long, but we can talk later. If you promise!"

"We promise," Ambrosia said, smiling.

Whisper beamed at us.

"Great! Now—imagine that, my human needs my help even to talk to his own wife. I must help him before he says something that will make her resent him to the point of assassination..." Whisper shook her head again. "Humans! The more I know them..."

She buzzed off, but I didn’t have time to even raise my eyebrows at Whisper’s words.

More bees approached me and Amby, swallowing us into a whirlwind of greetings and talking—until Ambrosia’s Attendants swept us away so we could rest in prepared rooms.

The next week promised to be eventful.
