Reincarnated To Evolve My Bee Empire -
Chapter 421: Ambrosia’s first flight on a dragon
Chapter 421: Ambrosia’s first flight on a dragon
Things-Things and her subordinates have outdone themselves with the royal seat. Despite the very limited time they had to make it, they crafted a thing both sturdy, comfortable and pleasing to the eye. Mostly.
The seat was only two meters wide and a meter tall—small enough that it wouldn’t interfere with a dragon’s ability to fly. It had wooden walls to protect from the winds, windows with shutters, and dozens of straps made to keep the entire construction on a dragon’s back.
Right now, it was attached to the back of visibly disgruntled Woe. The dragon was so unhappy with being forced to wear this thing, that it even turned its head away from the stripes of dried meat its dragon rider—Beemarine Skullcrusher—was offering to it.
The other two dragons of this trio—Disaster and Scourge—were here, too. They were going to carry mine and Ambrosia’s escort.
Besides bodyguards, we were going to take Archivists and Attendants with us to take notes and to wait on Ambrosia. All these bees were currently gathered around, checking their belongings for the last time, attaching it to the dragons’ strappings and taking their own places on the dragons’ backs.
I could take care of myself, but Amby—like any traditional Queen Bee—was pampered from the moment her egg was laid. I suspected she wouldn’t be able to bring food from the fridge to her mouth without someone putting it on the table first. But I couldn’t test this suspicion without a fridge, and frankly, I didn’t want to.
Amby deserved all the pampering she wanted!
Right now she stood next to me on the landing pad, holding my hand and eying the dragons with obvious distrust. Seeing this, I put a hand over her shoulders.
"Don’t worry, these three are very nice beasties. But you know them—they are friends!" I turned to Woe. "Such a well-trained beast you are, putting this seat on you despite it being so large and bulky..."
The dragon turned its head to me for a moment and narrowed its glassy black eyes. Then it suddenly snatched the meat from Skullcrusher’s hands, making her gasp, and stood up on its feet.
Amby staggered back at this, but I was still holding her.
"Ah, Father, Mother-Queen!" Skullcrusher stood to attention and raised her hands in a calming gesture. "Don’t fear. Woe is not attacking. He is stupid."
"He?" Ambrosia asked, straightening up and brushing my hand off herself.
All fright was gone from her expression—only endless calm and self-assurance remained—a royal aura that turned the most boisterous and bratty of our daughter and progeny into the most well-behaved and obedient girls there could be.
This quietness spread from Ambrosia like a ripple together with her scent. As they caught it, the bees in our retinue began working quieter, calmer, and more efficiently.
Even dragons were not immune! Perhaps because the level of noise around them decreased, they also stopped twitching, and Woe sat back down again.
And I was just marveling at my beautiful wife and how beautiful her beauty was.
Then Skullcrusher blinked and realized that she was being asked a question.
"Y-yes, we established the genders of these black dragons a while ago at one of their mating seasons, Mother-Queen. Scourge is a female, while Disaster and Woe are males. Scourge even laid eggs."
I perked up.
"Oh, really? I really missed a lot between this and that. There are so many dragons in the Bee Empire now... But you are still the first ones," I said, smiling at the giant creature in front of me.
Although it was just an alternative version of a bird, it was still a wonderful creature. Just like any other animal was wonderful in its own way, I supposed. But point me at someone who didn’t think that dragons were *especially* cool, and I will tell you they were lying!
I shook my head, returning to the present, then turned to Amby.
"Let’s take our seats and get comfortable, my dear."
Despite her outward calm, Ambrosia kept holding my hand the entire time we were getting inside the closed cabin, and even after it.
Since the seat was small, neither of us could stand inside, and when we sat, we had to press ourselves into the walls or press together our sides.
The latter wasn’t too bad, though—the pillows were nailed even to the ceiling. The shutters, when closed, still let a bit of light from the inside through the cracks. It created a cozy and private atmosphere—even with the sounds of voices, buzzing and other noises from the outside, I could imagine that I and Amby were alone in the entire world right now.
There were also leather straps that could be used as safety belts. Although the atmosphere of the seat also brought much more perverted associations to my mind.
I blushed and offered Amby a few of them.
"Let’s strap in tight for safety," I said, helping her put them over herself.
"Is this really necessary with all these pillows around?" she asked, not interfering with my actions, but watching with a frown.
I recalled the wild maneuvers dragons could execute when they got caught in an air pocket, or if they had to evade a hostile dragon...
"Yes, it definitely is. Even more than usual! It would be such a shame to reach our destination with broken bones."
Even if there weren’t going to be half a dozen bees right outside our small closed cabin, the flight was going to be too bumpy for any lewd thoughts—I knew from experience.
Being a part of a "mile high club" sounded like something too stupid to do, but a part of me was still disappointed that this was going to be impossible...
To cheer myself up, after I and Amby strapped up, I sat to hug her. She hugged me back and put a head on my shoulders.
"Are we ready to go, Necty?"
"Soon."
I closed my eyes, inhaled the sweet scent of my wife and savored the last moments of peace before the flight.
