Chapter 39: Chapter 39

He lasted longer than I would have, never being a fan of whiny people, even worse brats, and I may have great reasons to be depressed like that, but letting it consume me was the worst response I could have.

And the boy knew it too.

This time around he brought the food that he made every day, warm and fresh, with even meat and vegetables in it, and sat beside me with a spoon in hand, only for his black almond eyes to turn down and receive the same lack of reaction he has been given from me thus far.

But this time, instead of standing up and leaving the food behind to turn stone cold again, he sighs and sits beside me, one arm over the knee gazing at the hidden entrance of the cave as the wind rustles the leaves, deep in thought.

But at that he turns towards me, looking intensely in my eyes, and after opening and closing his mouth twice he finally chooses his words and say:

"You may not know me or even trust me, but I’ll say what I have to say, after all it was a pain in the ass to save your heavy drenched body just to see my efforts go to waste you see..." He says with a hint of a chuckle in his voice as if he could not help but try to joke around a bit, but since there is no effect his upturning smile drops a little, but my lack of reaction does not affect the strange will to help from his eyes as he continues:

"I may not be able to understand how you feel, hell, I don’t even know your name much less what you have been through, but... What I am certain is that killing yourself won’t resolve anything." A slight frown wants to appear at my void of emotions face, but as he drops the bomb the kid starts turning around to stand, not expecting any reaction from his words but saying them anyway.

He is surprised once I answer him, speaking up from the first time: "... I’m not trying to kill myself."

The masked boy stops and gazes at me for a while without answering, blinking the shock away and finally absorbing my words, only to cock his eyebrow and put his hands on his waist, sarcastically saying:

"Oh really? And what would you call this?" But before I can say anything, he continues: "Never mind the name you give actually, is easy to say that you are starving yourself to death, any blind man can see that!"

I was like boiling magma inside a volcano, ready to explode at any moment, and doing so at the smallest provocation.

"I’m not killing myself!"

"No?! Take a look at the mirror! Not only your wound won’t heal but your cheek bones are becoming more and more apparent! Do you think this is the look of someone fighting for their life? Or of someone who already gave up?"

I’m furious at him, at his demeanor, at his words, but I’m unable to vent out when my brain, so completely overturned by the events so far, realizes the truth.

...Giving up, me? After all we’ve been through, I was about to leave mother behind in a cowardly way just because I was expelled from the Higher Lands? All I wanted is for all of this to dissaper, wasn’t it? Me dying would do the trick for sure... but I-

Back in thoughts again the boy seems satisfied and stands to leave, but once his back is turned and he walks a few steps away he hears the clanking of utensils and the flustering of cloth from someone eating behind him, and with a satisfied smile puts his hands inside the long sleeves in front of him and leave the cave to give his words time to take root on the little fairy that had fallen from the sky right to his lap.

And his mind, too, was left to wonder, contemplating just how much more beautiful the fairy will be able to become once he is healthy and well.

At that his eyes darken with a hint of possessiveness that, too, is growing and expanding roots in his mind since the moment his eyes landed on the sleeping beauty.

With two full minds wondering, only fate could bring such different creatures together, but only they could tilt the direction their boat would float towards the misty unknown future, and what path their actions would guide them to.
