Reborn to outshine My Ex and His White Moonlight
Chapter 181: Lin Zhiyi, Say Something Nice

Chapter 181: Chapter 181: Lin Zhiyi, Say Something Nice

Gong Chen released her and leaned against a rock in silence.

Time passed, unknown how long.

He adjusted his sitting posture, supporting his body with one bent leg, and spoke with a slightly softer voice, "Lin Zhiyi, what exactly should I do?"

Lin Zhiyi didn’t understand what he meant.

She turned her head, parting her lips slightly to speak, but before she could, the man’s head came crashing down.

Gong Chen’s forehead rested against Lin Zhiyi’s cheek, and she immediately sensed something was amiss.

The once robust body was now shivering with cold.

In the darkness, Lin Zhiyi felt around, moving closer to examine his wound.

The cloth that had been bandaging the wound was long soaked with fresh blood.

She could only tear off another piece of her sleeve to continue tightening around his wound.

But this did not seem to bring Gong Chen any relief; on the contrary, his complexion grew even worse.

He clenched his fists, veins on his neck bulging, his face pale as paper, his hair damp and clinging to his temples.

Cold sweat rolled down, his eyes hazy and clouded, exuding an indescribable allure.

"Uncle?"

"..."

Gong Chen did not respond, his body tense as if fighting against something.

Lin Zhiyi saw it all, feeling heavy-hearted.

Gong Chen didn’t have to come, but he had.

Her gaze intensified, she undid the buttons of Gong Chen’s shirt and hesitated for a moment before pressing herself against him.

Gong Chen’s body jolted slightly, and his hand, clenched in a fist, encircled Lin Zhiyi.

His deep-set eyes focused steadily on the person in his arms, becoming darker still, yet not with desire.

"Don’t be afraid," his voice was hoarse, revealing emotions he had never shown before.

"Mhm."

Lin Zhiyi responded softly.

She gripped the locator on her clothes tightly, hoping Liu He would contact someone to rescue them soon.

Lost in a daze, mechanical sounds approached from outside.

She instinctively reached for her clothing but found that Gong Chen had already neatly done up her clothes.

"Zhiyi! Zhiyi!"

It was actually Liu He’s voice.

That woman, who always kept herself so pristine, had actually come here.

A warmth spread through Lin Zhiyi’s heart, but her consciousness started to drift away.

...

When she woke again, Lin Zhiyi was lying on a hospital bed.

As she opened her eyes, Liu He’s anxious face was the first thing she saw, nearly making her close her eyes again.

"Mom..." she started dryly.

Liu He gave her a gentle push, "Next time you have a death wish, don’t put that locator alarm on my phone! I don’t want to die of a heart attack from the scare!"

While she complained, she turned to pour a cup of warm water when she heard Lin Zhiyi’s throat was dry.

After drinking half a cup of water, Lin Zhiyi finally felt revived.

She anxiously asked, "Mom, the conversation I had with those two men should have been recorded and sent to your phone, where’s the recording?"

Liu He sighed, "I gave it to your uncle. After all, it’s related to the Gong Family, he will handle it properly."

Lin Zhiyi nodded.

Just then, Liu He tugged at her sleeve, pointing at the wall-mounted internet TV.

"Look."

Lin Zhiyi turned to look, and to her surprise, the screen was showing the arrest of Fifth Uncle and Sixth Uncle.

"They got caught?"

Liu He began peeling an apple with a fruit knife. "The families of the mining accident victims took evidence of their bribes to the Liu Family and the attempted murder to the police, then brought it online, and even collectively hired a top domestic lawyer. They couldn’t withstand this series of attacks."

She pointed with the tip of the knife at the two men on the screen and grumbled, "These two always acted so high and mighty because they were the old master’s cousins, throwing their weight around and giving your uncle a hard time every chance they got. Now they’ve landed themselves in jail!"

Lin Zhiyi noticed the loophole in her mother’s account.

"The families are just ordinary villagers; they wouldn’t even know where to start to get the bribery evidence, let alone evidence of murder."

"Well, I don’t understand these things. The fact is their evidence was solid and nobody could escape."

Liu He murmured, then cut a slice of fruit and fed it to Lin Zhiyi.

Lin Zhiyi knew someone must have helped these people obtain the evidence.

Aside from Gong Chen, she couldn’t think of anyone else capable of such a feat.

Lin Zhiyi bit into the apple, finding it tasteless, and spoke awkwardly, "Mom, where’s Uncle?"

"He’s..." Liu He glanced at the knife she nearly cut herself with, "You’re trying to kill me!"

"He died? How could he die? At worst he’d just break a leg, right?" Lin Zhiyi’s voice trembled.

"I meant he’s not dead!"

"Mom, can you speak properly?" Lin Zhiyi frowned.

"What are you so anxious for? All the way back, if it wasn’t for me covering your mouth, you would have kept shouting ’Uncle’ endlessly..."

"Mom! I’m hungry, could you go buy me something to eat?" Lin Zhiyi interrupted loudly.

Liu He clicked her tongue and turned to leave to buy food.

Lin Zhiyi sat for a while, then got out of bed to ask about Gong Chen’s room.

But as she reached the door to his room, she hesitated.

Just then, Chen Jin came out.

Their eyes met, and before Lin Zhiyi could ask him to stay quiet, it was too late.

Chen Jin said loudly, "Miss Lin! You’re here!"

Even the nurses at the station stuck their heads out.

A man’s restrained voice came from the room.

"Aren’t you going to come in and see if I’m dead or just have a broken leg?"

Lin Zhiyi’s breath hitched, and she quickly stepped into the room, "You had someone eavesdrop!"

The man on the hospital bed leaned back against the pillow, pale-faced but with eyes that seemed to see right through someone, piercing and cold.

He flipped a page of the documents on top of the blanket and said gravely, "Eavesdrop? Are you referring to your mom talking about you looking for me all the way here?"

"I didn’t! My mom’s making things up!"

"I’ll ask your mom."

"You..." Lin Zhiyi pursed her lips, "Looks like you’re alright. I’m leaving."

With a bang, Chen Jin swiftly closed the door from the outside.

On the bed, Gong Chen’s lips curved slightly and he said lightly, "Pour me a glass of water."

As he spoke, he moved the blanket, revealing his bandaged leg.

Lin Zhiyi pursed her lips, walked over to the bedside, poured a glass of water, and handed it to him, "Here, drink."

She slightly lowered her eyes, but they inadvertently met Gong Chen’s, his dark eyes reflecting her figure like shimmering water ripples.

It made her spine burn with heat.

He raised his hand, firmly enveloping hers as he took the cup, and with a gentle pull, he brought her closer.

Their breaths heated, his eyes locked on her face, as absorbing as a whirlpool.

He held her hand as he sipped the water, calmly inquiring, "On the way here, what was it you wanted from me?"

He deliberately emphasized the phrase "on the way here."

Lin Zhiyi tried to pull her hand free but couldn’t, and resignedly gritted her teeth, "I was afraid you’d die and the Gong Family would make me accompany you in death."

His lips barely parted, revealing an enticing curve in the light.

"Lin Zhiyi, I’m injured. Say something nice."

"I can’t," Lin Zhiyi stubbornly replied.

"It’s fine, how you express it is up to me," his voice deepened.

"..."

He supported her face and suddenly kissed her lips, greedily seizing her breath in a domineering manner.

Lin Zhiyi’s breath stopped as the air seemed to freeze around them.

Until Chen Jin knocked urgently from outside.

"Third Young Master, the old master has already arrived downstairs."
