Chapter 220: She was a burden all along
Chapter 220: She was a burden all along
Since the day Ella opened her eyes in this life, she was determined to love herself, to never let the insecurities from her previous life chase her.
But whenever she thought of how pathetically she had lived in her previous life, her heart cried for her past self.
Till her last breath, she had trusted her little sister, for whom she was willing to do anything...
"My little sister is the person who caused this,’’ Ella pointed at her body.
Esther’s expression shifted slightly.
Silence descended in the living room.
In the past few months, Ella had gone from some 178 pounds to 136 pounds. Yet, she still did not look like the way she used to, a few years ago.
And internally, her body did not feel the same, or as healthy as it used to be then.
If not for her occasional indulgence in food, she would probably have lost more weight.
But given her twisted relationship with food in her previous life, Ella did not hold herself back this time.
"What... do you mean by that?" Mo Jun was the one to break the silence in the place.
Ella did not look at him. She continued looking at her parents, "My reports say that I have been taking huge doses of medications that mess with my hormones, trigger my emotions and in the long run, they also cause eating disorders..."
"Esther would never do that," Mr. Yu tilted his chin.
Ella paused for a moment before she nodded slowly, "What if I can prove my words?"
A sob broke through the living room, "Sis, why... Why are you saying such things?"
Ella ignored her, never once taking her eyes off her parents.
At this moment, Mrs. Yu took a deep breath before reaching out to Ella’s hand. "Come with me, dear. Let’s talk."
Ella didn’t resist as the woman held her hand and led her away under everyone’s gaze.
The door to her father’s study clicked shut behind them.
The moment they were alone, Mrs. Yu squeezed her hand with an almost motherly warmth.
"Ella," she said softly, "I know things have been hard for you. I know. But... must you bring up all this now?"
Ella was stunned, "Mom..."
Mrs. Yu hesitated, her brows knitting together. "I’m not saying Esther was right. But she’s still your sister, isn’t she? Can’t we... let this go? We’ve just gotten you back. Let’s not make things worse than they already are."
Ella felt something shatter quietly inside her chest.
She took a step back.
"I thought..." Her voice cracked. "I thought you were just blindly trusting her and rightfully so, she is your daughter just as I am."
Mrs. Yu sighed, "Ella..."
Ella’s lips quivered, "You’re choosing her. Even if I showed you the evidence, it wouldn’t make a difference, would it?"
Mrs. Yu opened her mouth to speak, but Ella raised a hand.
"Back then, you did not like it when I got into the Entertainment industry, but Esther is preparing to be an actress with your support..."
Ella paused briefly before she spoke again, "I get disowned for being involved in a scandal that was not my fault, I get interrogated for yesterday’s incident despite being the victim... Yet, she gets your protection, despite all that she has done?"
Her voice was quiet, yet there was a tremble in it.
Two lives. She had missed her parents for two lives yet now that she met them, they seemed to be no more than strangers.
For a beat, Mrs. Yu looked guilty. But she didn’t deny anything Ella said.
Ella nodded faintly. "I get it now..."
Ella walked out of the study and descended the staircase.
Just as she reached the main door, her father’s voice rang behind her.
"Halt right there."
Ella’s stopped in her tracks.
"It’s time that you stop acting wilfully," Mr. Yu’s righteous voice reverberated in the place, "Before this, I hadn’t known of your entanglements with Mr. King. But now, you can give me his number. I will handle the rest..."
"Oh?" Ella turned to look at him, "Dad, what do you want to handle with him?"
"You don’t need to be his mistress anymore... Moreover, I don’t know if you have said such gibberish about our family in front of him. I need to clarify things with him to not hurt Esther’s future interests."
"At this point, all you care about is Esther’s future interests?" Ella’s lips trembled, "What if I refuse to?"
"This is what you owe us!" Mr. Yu raised his chin, "We have raised you for years and tolerated it even when you brought nothing but disgrace to us. What you are today is solely because of us. Don’t let it get to your head."
Ella nodded, slowly as those words cut into her like knives.
When she lifted her gaze, her eyes were clearer than before and there was a hint of determination in them.
She walked off to the dining table and grabbed the fruit knife. Ella fisted her hair in one hand, and in one swift move—
’Slash’
"Ella!" Mrs. Yu cried.
Long strands of dark hair fell on the floor, circling around Ella’s feet.
’Clang’
The knife in Ella’s hand dropped as she looked at the man who stood there, unfazed by her mere presence.
She then looked at her mother who took her to the study, to coax her to not blame Esther.
"Before today, I hadn’t realized how much of a burden I was..."
Ella bowed deeply, "Thank you for giving birth to me... for raising me... for feeding me."
Tears welled up in her eyes, ’’From this day on, I have nothing to do with the Yu Family. The Yu in my name, no longer belongs to you."
...
The garden was dimly lit, the cobbled path slick from the drizzle that had started falling from the sky.
Ella didn’t make it far, just a few feet beyond the stone pillars of the front gate before her legs gave up.
