Chapter 1704: Chapter 1698: Don’t Know
If Silver Wolf knew what Qing Zhu was thinking, one wonders how he would feel about it. Since when did he lose people’s trust to such an extent? Would he have to reflect on whether he committed some heinous act that made this woman think of him this way?
Unfortunately, Silver Wolf didn’t have the ability to read minds, so he couldn’t know Qing Zhu’s thoughts. And Qing Zhu had no desire to explain herself either, so while the two remained in this stalemate, they reached a sort of agreement.
"Woman, where did you learn those skills?" Silver Wolf thought for a moment before asking.
"I don’t know," Qing Zhu replied indifferently.
"You don’t have to be so guarded around me. I was just asking out of curiosity," Silver Wolf said, not entirely sure why he had asked in the first place. He usually wasn’t much of a talker, but seeing this woman made him want to learn more.
"It’s not that I don’t want to tell you—I really don’t know," Qing Zhu said. If she could’ve known, it would’ve made things easier. But in her current state of memory loss, everything she did was driven by instinct; she didn’t even understand how she had mastered such skills.
She only performed these actions naturally as they came to her, so when the man asked her, she genuinely didn’t know how to answer.
"How could you not even know about your own history?" Silver Wolf assumed Qing Zhu simply didn’t want to tell him, not considering any other possibilities.
This time, Qing Zhu didn’t respond. She refused to waste her breath on such a clueless man and instead focused all her attention on observing the movements ahead, ignoring him entirely.
When Silver Wolf didn’t hear Qing Zhu’s voice, he turned his head to look at her. Under the cover of night, he vaguely saw her silhouette—a cold, detached figure, yet accompanied by an inexplicable air of mystery. For a moment, Silver Wolf found himself somewhat entranced, an unusual feeling stirring in his chest—something he couldn’t pinpoint. Somehow, he felt as if he might have met her before.
But he was certain in his memory that he had never seen her. With that thought, Silver Wolf shifted his mind elsewhere. Where was his head going with these notions? He’d only met her once, briefly at that, leaving no real impression.
If not for seeing her here tonight, he wouldn’t even have remembered such a person ever crossing his path.
Yu Ze concentrated, listening to the movements around him and the distant conversation. He curled his lips in mild irritation—Aunt Qing and Uncle were really bold with their discussion, as if they weren’t worried about being overheard. And to talk for so long, no less.
Now that Yu Ze knew who was hiding in the shadows, he felt completely at ease. Someone knowing his whereabouts certainly brought comfort. But who was this "Silver Wolf" they mentioned? And why was Uncle here? Could it be that Uncle was the Silver Wolf they spoke of?
If that were true, then his Uncle really had quite the capabilities—perhaps even rivaling his pompous father.
Thinking about his dad’s perpetually cold expression, Yu Ze couldn’t help but wonder how to even describe him. His father’s face only seemed to thaw in front of his mother. Toward the two brothers, it was always impassive. Occasionally, they’d manage to get some other reaction out of him—moments where the corners of his mouth would twitch, clearly exasperated by their antics.
In contrast, Yu Ze thought this Uncle seemed a bit more human. As for his father? Well, words failed him. Still, Yu Ze could feel his father’s love for them, which prevented him from feeling too wounded by the man’s cold demeanor.
But how had Aunt Qing ended up being with his Uncle? Was it just a coincidental encounter, or had they known each other all along? Clearly, there was some drama buried in this narrative—something worth uncovering. Would a story unfold here?
Yu Ze had been idle ever since waking up, listening to the whispered conversation between the two figures hidden in the shadows. Now that they weren’t talking, he was left with nothing to do but let his mind wander aimlessly.
