Chapter 1703: Chapter 1697: A Ruse of Self-Injury
"I’m sorry." Despite being the one at a disadvantage, Qing Zhu still felt she needed to apologize since she was the one who initiated the offense.
"It was an accident. Frankly, I ended up taking advantage of you. I should be the one saying sorry." Silver Wolf raised an eyebrow. Not bad—this woman seemed to have principles.
"Now that the apologies are out of the way, let’s talk about something else. Why did you stop me? And who are you?" Qing Zhu kept a safe distance as she questioned the man, though her heart remained guarded. Was this man a friend or a foe?
"Who I am doesn’t matter. What’s important is why you’re here. Don’t you know how dangerous this is?" Silver Wolf hadn’t planned on discussing this with her until later, but he hadn’t expected this woman to bring it up right now.
"What does it have to do with you? If you hadn’t stopped me earlier, I would’ve already made contact with the child by now. You’re nothing but a nuisance." Had the situation allowed, Qing Zhu would have liked to give him a good fight. Did he even realize how he messed everything up?
"Woman, let me make something clear. I was protecting you just now. There are so many of them, and you’re just one person—how many can you possibly take down with that small physique of yours?" Silver Wolf felt both exasperated and amused. He was helping her, wasn’t he? How did it end up becoming his fault?
"Who asked for your help? Who knows who you really are? And how am I supposed to know whether you’re friend or foe? Just because you say you’re helping me doesn’t mean I can trust you." Qing Zhu wasn’t buying it. She had left markers along her route; once she contacted the child, all she needed to do was wait for help to arrive. She never planned on going head-to-head with the enemy herself. Did she look that clueless?
"You’re really ungrateful. If I were the enemy, I would’ve captured you a long time ago. Why would I bother wasting my time with all this effort?" Silver Wolf was ready to cry out of frustration. Was anyone as unlucky as him? Trying to do a good deed and ending up being blamed for everything—it was utterly unfair.
"Who knows if this is some kind of ploy?" Qing Zhu muttered in a fit of stubbornness, though doubt started creeping into her mind. Had she truly misjudged him?
"Alright, let’s stop arguing about this here. Let’s assess the situation first." Silver Wolf feared that if they continued quarrelling, they could end up getting discovered, which would be much worse.
"Who’s arguing with you? It’s your fault for suddenly showing up and ruining my plan." Thinking about it made Qing Zhu feel even more justified in her anger.
"Alright, woman. I’m sorry, okay? It was my mistake. But right now, our goals are the same. Can we work together to rescue the child first and deal with everything else afterward?" Silver Wolf decided this wasn’t the time to reason with her, so he conceded.
There was no point in arguing further. The mission was to rescue the child first. Anything else could wait.
"Fine. But stay away from me." Qing Zhu couldn’t see the man’s face clearly, but upon hearing his words, she reluctantly decided to agree. As he said, their objective was the same—the child. No matter what, the first thing she would do after rescuing the child was take them away herself. She couldn’t let him have the child. Who knew what his real intentions were?
