Chapter 1699: Chapter 1693: Hungry
It’s not that Qing Zhu is dumb or anything, but just by looking at these people, you can tell they aren’t ordinary. Seeing them reminded her of something else.
What she couldn’t understand was how Qin Su’e could know such people. And even more puzzling, if she knew people like this, how did she end up in such a miserable state? That’s what Qing Zhu couldn’t figure out.
So she didn’t dare act recklessly. She could only wait for the right moment, hoping her godmother would find someone to rescue them. Otherwise, relying on just herself, she truly didn’t have the means to get Yu Ze out of there.
Yu Ze looked at these men. Throughout the journey, he hadn’t cried or caused trouble—calmly letting himself be carried off. He knew this woman had beef with his mom; otherwise, he wouldn’t have followed her in the first place. He just hadn’t expected her to hand him over to others not long after.
This surprised Yu Ze, but there was nothing he could do to escape now. How could a tiny child like him possibly fight off so many grown men?
When it was just Qin Su’e, he might have had a chance to throw a tantrum, cry, and escape. But he was small, and running away wasn’t easy. Thinking about all this, he decided not to resist or struggle.
He just hoped that later, when his parents found out, they wouldn’t beat him. That was the thought quietly running through Yu Ze’s mind.
But now, what did these people want to do? Yu Ze listened silently as they talked.
"Boss, is there really any use in us grabbing this kid?" Crew Cut asked.
"It’s useful. Last time, I saw that Silver Wolf was with a man, and this kid looks a lot like that man. This means they’re connected. Think about it: Silver Wolf is connected to that man, and that man is connected to this kid. So tell me, does this kid have any value?" The Tall Guy was cornered too—they just wanted to pull off one job, but who knew they’d be forced into a situation like this by Silver Wolf.
A few days ago, he accidentally saw two kids who looked almost identical to the man with Silver Wolf. That’s when he came up with this plan. Then, he stumbled upon that crazy woman’s scene.
So he pretended to help her speak up, and sure enough, she noticed him. From there, he made use of that woman to help him bring the kid out.
Because that woman was from the same village, no one would be suspicious of her. Initially, he wanted to take both kids, but the woman said she couldn’t manage that. In the end, she could only bring out one.
But what the Tall Guy didn’t know was that, although the two kids looked identical, the outcomes would be completely different.
"Do you think Silver Wolf will take the bait?" Crew Cut asked another question after hearing this.
"If he really has ties to that man, he won’t just sit back and do nothing. Besides, aren’t those military guys always full of themselves? As long as someone’s in danger, they’ll show up to save the day," the Tall Guy, who was quite familiar with Hua Country’s military, replied confidently.
"Makes sense. Then let’s just wait for Silver Wolf to come knocking," Crew Cut said, looking at Yu Ze sitting across from him.
They’d been waiting a long time for this score, and there was no way they could afford for it to fail. But wasn’t this little brat a bit too calm? His behavior wasn’t anything like an ordinary child’s.
Crew Cut kept watching Yu Ze. He felt something was off about the kid but couldn’t put his finger on it. Thinking about this, he glanced at Yu Ze several more times, and Yu Ze, noticing his movements and expression, gave him a smile.
This uncle is so funny. Doesn’t he realize his behavior is totally mismatched with the situation? Yu Ze thought to himself.
"Uncle, I’m hungry." Yu Ze looked at them sitting around doing nothing. Were they seriously not going to fix anything to eat? He hadn’t eaten all day, and they had dragged him around for hours. Plus, they were in the mountains—who knew if wolves might appear.
"Hmm. Big Head, fix something for him to eat," The Tall Guy called out to Crew Cut.
Yu Ze looked at Crew Cut. So this guy’s name is Big Head, huh? Well, he certainly lives up to it!
