Reborn in the 80s: She Rewrites Life with Radiance -
Chapter 138 New Business Opportunity
Chapter 138: Chapter 138 New Business Opportunity
In just a couple of days, it would be the fifteenth, and Gu Yi’s sixteenth birthday meant school would start.
So on the fifteenth, after lunch, she took some cured meats, pickled fish, and side dishes made by Gu’s mother, then headed back to school.
First, she went home to do some cleaning, and then she went to the Jingying Second Store.
To see if there was anything she could help with, as she was practically half an owner of the store.
During the busy New Year period, she wasn’t around, leaving everything to Li Yitian.
Feeling somewhat guilty about it, she decided to return and at least check in.
When Gu Yi arrived at the store, Li Yitian was there too.
"I thought you wouldn’t be back until next week."
Li Yitian said as soon as he saw Gu Yi.
"No, no, here I am at the store as soon as I’m back. It must’ve been tough during the New Year."
Gu Yi said with a smile.
"Those days were really busy, but thanks to you for preparing extra clothes, they sold pretty well."
Remembering the excitement of counting the earnings each day during the New Year period, Li Yitian’s grievances eased a bit.
"Thanks for the hard work, I’ll treat you to dinner tonight. I brought some delicious food over."
Gu Yi thought she should at least comfort Li Yitian a bit.
"Sure, I want a meal with four dishes and one soup; anything less won’t do!"
Li Yitian remembered hearing from his brother that Gu Yi’s cooking was pretty good.
But despite how long they’d worked together, he hadn’t yet tasted her cooking.
"Alright, I’ll make sure you’re satisfied."
Gu Yi said confidently.
Because she planned to treat Li Yitian to dinner that evening.
Gu Yi stayed in the store for a short while and then went to the market to buy groceries.
There was meat and fish at home, so she just bought some greens, tofu, chili, seaweed, and eggs.
Today, she planned to make stir-fried cured meat, steam the pickled fish, fry some greens, make Mapo tofu, and a seaweed egg soup to complete the meal.
The dishes she cooked were perfect with rice, so she cooked two bowls of rice.
If there were leftovers from tonight, she could fry them for breakfast the next morning.
Just as she was about to finish cooking, Li Yitian arrived with some fruit.
"You could just come, no need to be so polite."
Gu Yi teased.
"But it’s still the New Year; showing up empty-handed to your house doesn’t seem right."
After saying that, Li Yitian put the fruit on the table and ran to the kitchen to see Gu Yi cooking.
"The food is almost ready, please sit for a while. We’ll start eating soon."
Gu Yi added seaweed to the boiling pot, a bit of oil and salt, some sugar, and cracked an egg into it before sprinkling some scallions on top and serving it.
Gu Yi brought the dishes to the table, and Li Yitian didn’t just wait to be served.
He helped bring the dishes out too.
When the food was all laid out on the table, Li Yitian looked at the four dishes and one soup.
"Gu Yi, good job! You really made four dishes and a soup, and they smell pretty good too."
"Of course, I wouldn’t let your request go unfulfilled. Try it and see if you’re satisfied."
Gu Yi came out of the kitchen with two bowls of rice and put one in front of Li Yitian.
"Alright, I won’t be polite then. I started drooling at the aroma as soon as I came in."
Li Yitian took a bite of the cured meat first.
After eating it, he didn’t say anything and then took a piece of the fish.
"Well, what do you think? Give it a rating."
Gu Yi watched Li Yitian eat with a blank expression, wondering if he found it unfamiliar.
Li Yitian slowly swallowed the fish in his mouth.
He took another bite of rice and slowly nodded.
"Not bad, tastes great."
After saying that, he couldn’t help but laugh.
"Did I look like a food critic just now?"
"You did, but you were a bit too pretentious."
Gu Yi laughed heartily after speaking.
They chatted and ate together, finishing everything except for some of the pickled fish, which was left.
The seaweed soup wasn’t much, so it was all finished too.
After clearing the dishes, Gu Yi brewed a cup of tea for Li Yitian.
"I heard from a friend a few days ago that the government has a severe fiscal deficit and is selling a piece of land on the outskirts of the city. But I heard it’s all rocky and can’t grow crops. What’s the use of buying that land?"
Li Yitian suddenly shared a piece of news he heard a few days ago with Gu Yi.
"Which part of the outskirts?"
Gu Yi got interested immediately.
"Just east of the city."
"Do you know how much it’s selling for?"
"There are more than 1,000 acres, and the asking price is 5 million. They’re not selling it in parts, so it hasn’t been sold yet."
After saying that, Li Yitian turned to look at Gu Yi.
"Are you thinking about buying it?"
"Yes, what about you? Any thoughts?"
Gu Yi admitted frankly.
She knew the place later sold for over 4 million, and at that time, people said the buyer was foolish.
But within a few years, it became the eastern development zone, and the original owner rented the land for factories, making a fortune just from rent alone.
She recalled the land being sold about a year later since it was her second year in the city, and it caused quite a stir back then.
Though she knew the outcome, she didn’t have that much money at hand.
Her most feasible idea was to find partners to buy the land together.
Li Yitian was just someone she could inquire about; they alone didn’t have the strength to acquire that piece of land.
"What would you do with it after buying it?"
Li Yitian wasn’t sure why, but seeing Gu Yi’s determination, he felt that if they could buy the land, it’d definitely be profitable.
So, he wanted to know Gu Yi’s thoughts.
"The land isn’t good for farming, but we can do other things, like build factories. It’s close to the city, convenient for transport, and just a bit further east is T City. I think the future development there shouldn’t be too bad."
Gu Yi knew the outcome later on and articulated the potential development, but she didn’t assure Li Yitian it would definitely profit.
Fearing any unforeseen changes, she wanted Li Yitian to make his own decision.
"Can I go home and think it over? I’d never considered something like this before."
Li Yitian felt he needed to think it through well, as 5 million wasn’t a small amount, and he couldn’t come up with that much money right away.
"Sure, it’s definitely something to think about clearly."
Gu Yi didn’t say much more; considering such a purchase thoroughly was necessary.
After Li Yitian left, she pondered other ways to gather that much money.
If she couldn’t, she’d look to the bank for a loan. If not, she could find partners or even borrow the money.
Ultimately, Gu Yi decided to inquire with the bank the next day, though she figured it might not work.
Since this land was being sold due to government deficits.
Banks now, unlike those in the future where many were private, are all state-owned.
Getting a bank loan to buy land would be akin to getting everything without any resources.
Though she knew it wasn’t quite feasible, she thought she should still try.
