Chapter 125: Chapter 125: Probing

Hearing what Ye Hao said, Ye’s mother didn’t dare to confidently say Wu Liang was a good match anymore.

A mother would never dare, nor would she ever wager her daughter’s entire life.

"When your dad comes back, I’ll talk to him properly and have him take another look."

Ye’s mother took a step back.

Dinner was cooked by Ye’s mother, with Ye Hao helping out on the side.

"Mom, shall I go check if Yiyi is awake?"

Seeing there wasn’t much to help with, Ye Hao washed his hands and prepared to go to the room.

"Hey, Hao Hao, wait a minute."

As Ye Hao was about to leave, Ye’s mother stopped him.

"Mom, what’s up?"

Ye Hao turned back to look at his mother.

"Has Yiyi had any unusual reactions lately?"

Although Ye’s mother still thought the possibility with Gu Yi wasn’t high, she couldn’t help but ask Ye Hao.

"Reactions? What reactions?"

Ye Hao was a bit puzzled.

"Like feeling nauseous, or wanting to sleep, or sometimes having a sudden craving for something."

"Mom, no, and don’t rush us on this. Children come when the time is right."

Ye Hao immediately understood what his mother was implying.

"I know, I won’t rush, but you should also get a move on."

Ye Hao heard his mom saying she wouldn’t rush, yet also telling them to hurry up.

"Mom, we know, Yiyi is still in school, we’ve planned to wait until she’s about to graduate."

Ye Hao knew his mother was anxious, so he shared their plan with her.

"You should start preparing early. You can’t always have one just because you want to."

Ye’s mother thought Ye Hao and his partner were still too young, as not everything in life goes as planned.

"Alright, Mom, I got it. Just keep this between us; don’t mention it in front of Yiyi. She’s worried about you guys being anxious. If you say something, it’ll put more pressure on her."

Ye Hao hastily explained to his mother.

"I know, I won’t say anything."

Ye’s mother said as she turned back to her tasks.

Ye Hao sensed his mother seemed a bit displeased, standing quietly behind her.

"Mom, are you upset?"

"No."

Ye’s mother replied without even turning her head.

"You say you’re not angry, but it looks like your hair is about to stand up with anger."

Ye Hao teased, staring at his mother’s hair from the front.

"Don’t exaggerate, I’m not angry. Go check on your wife."

Ye’s mother was amused by Ye Hao, gave him a light push out of the kitchen.

"See, a smile means you’re not angry. I’ll go wake up your daughter-in-law; she shouldn’t be sleeping while you’re wearing yourself out. Mom, stop it; I’ll bring her in right away."

Ye Hao, acting all tough, walked out.

"That rascal, marriage does change a person, afraid I’d mistreat your wife, huh."

Ye’s mother, speaking to herself, started to laugh.

In the past, when Ye Hao and his wife’s relationship wasn’t good, she worried. Now that they’re good, he protects his wife in front of her, which makes her feel uncomfortable.

She wondered if it was just her or if every mother-in-law felt this way.

Sometimes she knew her attitude was wrong; as a mother, all she wants is for her children to be happy.

Besides, Gu Yi treated the whole family well, so there wasn’t really anything to complain about.

Thinking this, Ye’s mother realized she had been a bit unreasonable.

From now on, she’d let the kids decide; if they were happy, she would be too.

When Ye Hao entered the room, Gu Yi was already awake.

"Feeling better now?"

"Much better. I wasn’t really sick anyway. I probably just got tired today and seeing that Wu Liang stirred me up emotionally."

Gu Yi spoke, giving Ye Hao a side-eye.

Ye Hao knew Gu Yi felt shy because he had carried her back.

"It’s alright. Even if you weren’t well, no one would say anything if I carried you."

Ye Hao said, embracing Gu Yi with a satisfied smile.

Ye Hao and Gu Yi came out, and Ye Fu and Ye Qian had just returned home.

Gu Yi glanced at the door.

"Where is Wu Liang staying?"

Seeing Gu Yi’s look, Ye Hao asked.

"He’s been staying at the store lately. This afternoon, when it was less busy, we let him go back. Mom, what did you cook for dinner? I’m starving."

Ye Qian said before rushing to the kitchen.

"Is Wu Liang coming back after the New Year?"

Gu Yi asked Ye Fu.

"He should be back tomorrow; today he went to get some things to take home."

Ye Fu replied to Gu Yi without much thought.

After dinner, Gu Yi was washing the dishes in the kitchen, and Ye Qian came to help.

"Qianqian, tell me honestly, what do you think of Wu Liang?"

Seeing the opportunity as it was just the two sisters-in-law, Gu Yi asked Ye Qian directly.

"He’s a nice guy. Although his family is poor, he’s ambitious and interacts well with people."

Gu Yi closely observed Ye Qian, noting her blushing as she spoke.

Gu Yi sighed silently to herself.

This pesky fate seems unavoidable.

At that moment, Gu Yi fell silent, unsure of how much Ye Qian actually liked Wu Liang.

If she rashly said Wu Liang wasn’t suitable, it might only push Ye Qian to make a quicker decision to be with him.

She realized she would need to discuss it with Ye Hao to find a way to prevent Ye Qian and Wu Liang from getting together.

"Sister-in-law, what’s up? After seeing him today, what do you think of him?"

Noticing Gu Yi’s silence, Ye Qian asked.

She herself wasn’t sure about her feelings for Wu Liang, having little experience interacting with guys outside.

Wu Liang gave her a totally different vibe.

At times, it was just the two of them left at the store.

Wu Liang would share stories about his family and life perspectives with her.

Ye Qian felt that Wu Liang showed a different side to her compared to outsiders.

Outwardly, he was always positive and sunny; in private, he seemed a bit melancholy, making one want to comfort him.

"I wasn’t feeling well then, so I didn’t really get a good look. Qianqian, if, and I mean if, your brother and I think you two aren’t suitable, what would you do?"

Gu Yi suddenly wanted to know Wu Liang’s place in Ye Qian’s heart, so she cautiously asked.

"I don’t know either."

After a pause, Ye Qian looked at Gu Yi in confusion.

Ye Qian really was unsure about what to do.

Initially, both Ye’s mother and Ye Fu thought Wu Liang was good and that they should give it a try.

She felt they got along well and were hopeful to progress further.

And although she hadn’t explicitly discussed it with Wu Liang, it was somewhat mutual, leading her to invest emotionally.

Now, with her brother and sister-in-law saying they weren’t suitable, she realized she’d miss Wu Liang if she stopped seeing him.

Listening to her, Gu Yi didn’t say anything further. They quietly finished washing dishes and joined everyone in the living room by the fire.

Ye’s mother sensed something off between the sister-in-law duo.

"Qianqian, didn’t you always say you missed your sister-in-law? Now she’s back, and you’re not talking."

Ye’s mother tried to lighten the mood, but upon saying so, Ye Qian remained distracted.
