Chapter 501: Chapter 500: To Ingratiate (4 more)
"Niannian doesn’t blame Uncle Dad; she knows Uncle Dad is busy." Xu Niannian said with a smile, then gave Du Zhiwen a meaningful glance.
Du Zhiwen wasn’t concerned, as at that moment, he was busy looking toward Zhao Shuihua.
Xu Niannian only took a glance to see that Zhao Shuihua seemed very eager, while Du Zhiwen looked troubled.
Xu Niannian sneered, it looked like Du Zhiwen’s affair wasn’t just an unfounded rumor.
Putting on such an intimate display, not listening to his own wife but caring about an outsider’s affairs — even if he hadn’t cheated yet, it was probably not far off.
Xu Niannian looked at Xu Sanya still peeling an apple for Du Zhiwen, and felt a lump in her throat.
"Young Aunt, we’re heading back now." Xu Niannian told Xu Sanya without paying any more attention to Du Zhiwen and Zhao Shuihua.
She took Jin Yu’s hand, ready to leave.
Zhao Shuihua chased after them, "Hey, girl, wait a moment."
"Do you need something?" Xu Niannian asked coldly, as Zhao Shuihua had followed them out of the ward.
Jin Yu put an arm around Xu Niannian, keeping her away from Zhao Shuihua, fearing the woman might bump into Xu Niannian carelessly.
"Girl, why are you speaking so formally with your aunt?"
She was all smiles, acting overly familiar as she tried to stuff a few tens of dollars into Xu Niannian’s hand.
"Your baby is due soon, right? I don’t have much money, but don’t mind it; take this to buy something for the child."
Xu Niannian didn’t accept it, thinking one should not slap a smiling face, but that depended on whom the face belonged to.
Towards a woman who might harm her loved ones, Xu Niannian really didn’t want to give her a pleasant expression.
She did not accept the money, brushing it off directly, "Sorry, we’re not that familiar."
The money fell to the ground as Xu Niannian turned and followed Jin Yu out of the hospital, with Zhao Shuihua calling after them from behind. Sadly, Xu Niannian and Jin Yu turned a deaf ear and didn’t even look back.
Zhao Shuihua, met with cold faces despite her warm approach, immediately sneered disdainfully and swayed her curvy hips back into the ward.
Xu Sanya bit into an apple, "Shuihua, why were you chasing after my grandniece?"
The smile on Zhao Shuihua’s face was strained as she mockingly said, "Sister Sanya, your niece sure thinks highly of herself."
She was waiting for Xu Sanya to inquire, so she could complain to Xu Sanya and Du Zhiwen.
But unlike her expectations, Xu Sanya didn’t get angry; she actually burst into laughter.
"Oh, my dear cousin Shuihua, don’t mind it; our Baby Nian does have a bit of an attitude, but it can’t be helped. She is the pride of our Xu family, earning her own money and becoming a big boss. It’s natural for her to be a bit proud when talking to ordinary folks."
Xu Sanya’s words were heartfelt, yet she had no idea how deeply they struck Zhao Shuihua.
In her youth, Zhao Shuihua prided herself on her good looks.
Xu Sanya’s mention of "ordinary folks" completely deflated her ego.
Forcing a smile, Zhao Shuihua replied, "But that doesn’t mean she should be rude to her elders, right?"
Xu Sanya nodded solemnly, "I’ll talk to her about it later. My Baby Nian just can’t shake off this habit of being judgmental. If you were a big boss, she wouldn’t talk to you like that; she probably talks to you this way because she sees you’re poor."
Xu Sanya’s memory of Xu Niannian was still based on the original owner of the body. Her remarks were made without filter, speaking her mind and inadvertently infuriating Zhao Shuihua.
Before Zhao Shuihua had the chance to reply, Xu Sanya took another bite of her apple, crunchy and juicy, and casually asked her while chewing.
"By the way, cousin Shuihua, when are you and your daughter going to find jobs? It’s been so many days without success; I hope it’s not because you’re not capable enough to get hired?"
"You..." Zhao Shuihua turned her head sharply, seething with rage but trying hard to contain it, "Sister Sanya, we’re still looking, it’s not that we can’t find jobs."
She assumed Xu Sanya was being sarcastic on purpose.
However, in good conscience, Xu Sanya was genuinely concerned about them, worried they couldn’t find jobs and wouldn’t have money for living expenses.
She even offered some well-meaning advice, "You might not like what I say, but not finding a job means others don’t appreciate you. You should be more perceptive; when looking for jobs, don’t talk about money at first, just be proactive and start working. I’m sure you’ll find a job."
Xu Sanya had done this herself in the past.
Believing it to be sagely advice, Weiwei knew her mother’s temperament and seeing Zhao Shuihua so angry she couldn’t say a word, she bent her head, trying hard not to laugh.
The Xu family members had a bad habit of not minding their words, not only being outspoken but also boasting about their own.
Getting carried away, Xu Sanya even started comparing Xu Niannian to Zhao Zhenzhen.
"I’m not one to talk, but you say my Niannian is arrogant; she makes money on her own, and goodness, started a huge factory in the village from scratch, bigger than those in the county. Which other woman could be so capable? Of course, she’s allowed a bit of pride."
She spat out a seed and continued, "Just look at your Zhenzhen, loitering all day, doing nothing but staying in her room, expecting money to fall from the sky? They are in the same age group, she should really learn from my Niannian. Otherwise, if she can’t find a job and nobody wants to marry her, who wouldn’t want a daughter-in-law that neither works nor does household chores? I’m telling you all this because I see you and Ah Zhi are close; don’t take it to heart."
