Chapter 65: Chapter 64: Desolation
"Come on, you’re married now, still thinking about the village belle, huh? Be careful, I’ll tell your wife when we get back," Gao Ran said.
"The village belle was my first love. My wife already knows about it. But she got married the year before last, and last year when my wife and I went back, we met her. She was pregnant and had gained a lot of weight, almost like a pig..." Huang Guozhong shook his head, looking disappointed.
"We’re talking about the girl Han Yi knows, why are you bringing up your village belle...? Hey, Han Yi, tell us how you met her," Gao Ran and Huang Guozhong looked at Han Yi mischievously.
Han Yi sat there, completely ignoring their conversation, his handsome face slightly furrowed. He lifted his wrist to check his watch.
Lin Wan returned to the store, glancing outside occasionally, afraid of missing Han Yi’s departure.
She wanted to grab him and ask which camp he was stationed at now and tell him she wanted to date him, but didn’t know how to start.
Over an hour passed like this, and as Lin Wan was tidying up the table, she saw Han Yi coming in with two others.
"Hello again, comrade," Gao Ran flashed a smile at Lin Wan.
Lin Wan smiled and nodded, "Please sit," and then asked Han Yi, "Would you like something to eat?"
Han Yi stared at her for a few moments, glanced at the menu on the wall, then ordered three meals. He sat down straight without intending to talk to Lin Wan.
Lin Wan was briefly dazed, turned away with a smile but felt a bit lost, yet she quickly resolved her feelings. Her relationship with Han Yi could, at most, be considered an acquaintance, just having crossed paths. Although she wanted to sit next to him and inquire about his situation over the past year, she knew that Han Yi didn’t like proactive girls, which would make him resentful.
Her only approach now is to wait.
When the food was served, it was Lin Yinghui who brought it. Lin Wan was afraid she couldn’t help glancing at Han Yi, appearing frivolous, so she restrained her urge and went to the kitchen, letting Mom take a break.
When she came out again, they were no longer there, and Lin Wan felt anxious, rushing out of the store to see the area in front, but the military vehicle that had been parked there was gone.
Lin Wan didn’t know that on the road, Han Yi had been staring at the rearview mirror. When she hurriedly ran out, Han Yi saw it clearly in the mirror.
Watching Lin Wan’s searching gaze, Han Yi’s dark eyes flickered faintly.
"What a pity, she’s quite pretty, but..." Gao Ran sighed regretfully while driving. In his opinion, it’s best to find a wife with a stable job, and though she’s nice, she’s in business.
"Han Yi, didn’t you say you knew her? Why are you acting like strangers? Is her family local? I saw another guy in the store; she couldn’t already be married, right?"
Han Yi’s thick eyebrows knitted slightly as he replied simply, "Don’t know."
Making Huang Guozhong and Gao Ran feel quite powerless. Though they’d only been in Jun District for a short time, many privately had already come up with a nickname for Han Yi: the cold, emotionless king of Jun Camp, apart from the staff officer, Han Yi was the most famous.
Adding two more words compared to Leader Mei, which is "emotionless," having been at the camp for less than a year, he was harsh with his subordinates, never showing mercy. Yet, many are willing to join his camp; there’s no choice since the soldiers trained by him are indeed exceptional.
For example, in this actual maneuver drill, not only did he take first place, but he also saved Leader Mei. Quite an achievement indeed. Now, his reputation at the camp is booming.
Famous for being outstanding at the camp, the only thing is Han Yi’s relatively cold temperament.
It’s true they met Han Yi, but they hadn’t spoken a word. Judging by Han Yi’s demeanor, he hadn’t considered anything on this side. She is currently purely in unrequited love.
