Chapter 261: Chapter 260: Culinary Institute’s Exchange Meeting (Part 1)
Three to four days had passed since the paint incident.
In these few days, the shopping street resumed its customary peace, Xia Yu heard from Sen Tian City that the few households that had stood firm hadn’t been harassed by Tokyo Three Tigers Construction Company again. The property developers, previously both aggressive and cajoling, had disappeared without a trace, leaving behind the mess in the shopping street.
Furthermore, according to the timeline, the Special Envoy from IGO headquarters should have already arrived, but for some unknown reason, they still hadn’t summoned Xia Yu for inspection. This kept him anxious for two nights, unable to sleep.
Today is Saturday.
Far Moon Campus.
In the spacious greenhouse vegetable garden, students were scattered everywhere.
Aoki Motota sat in a chair, half-closing his eyes, with Xia Yu and Si Yingshi on either side.
The students would soon use the freshly picked fruits and vegetables to present a fresh fruit and vegetable platter. The key aspect under scrutiny for the task was what’s known as "cooking sentiment."
To express sentiment, one must start with the basics - pairing, allowing the taster to understand the chef’s intended message.
Xia Yu’s gaze landed on Tanaka Hikari and Sen Tian Makoto.
The second row consisted of Xingping Chuangzhen and Tiqie Helinai.
Tiqie Helinai, the only member of the Elite Ten to register for the class, was always the center of attention with her every move.
"Tanaka and Morioka actually don’t need to attend this class anymore,"
Si Yingshi said quietly, as he straightened his silver-gray fringe.
"Hmm."
Xia Yu replied, glancing now at Xingping, now at Eriina, and furrowing his brows.
He hadn’t forgotten that he still bore the task of educating Far Moon Academy students given by the system, and he was stuck at the second phase, which was to guide a student in pioneering the embryonic form of ’culinary spirit,’ with a reward of 3 Talent Points.
The task couldn’t remain stuck there since the subsequent rewards were more substantial.
As things stood, he could only start with either Xingping Chuangzhen or Tiqie Helinai.
"Let it be Eriina!" Xia Yu thought to himself.
He had been quite close to Eriina recently, with the haughty girl popping into his shop every other day, giving him plenty of time to give Eriina extra lessons outside of class.
Just then, out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of Ichise Hui, who was standing at the entrance to the greenhouse vegetable garden, waving over.
"What’s the matter?"
Xia Yu walked over.
Ichise Hui was dressed formally, wearing a well-tailored suit, but he was slightly out of breath and his forehead was sweaty, clearly having run there.
"Instructor Xia, the General and the Head are summoning you!"
Without further explanation, Ichise Hui grabbed Xia Yu’s arm, apologized with a wave to Si Yingshi, who was looking over from a distance, and easily led Xia Yu away.
Outside the vegetable garden, a car was waiting.
After getting into the car, Ichise Hui turned around from the passenger seat, his face grave as he said:
"Here’s the situation..."
Xia Yu listened while casting glances at the greenhouse vegetable garden being left far behind. This part of the Far Moon Academy was secluded, and it would take about ten minutes by car to return to the teaching area.
"You’re saying that in the past few days, Smith has led a delegation from Orlando Academy to visit Far Moon?" Upon hearing the explosive news, Xia Yu immediately widened his eyes.
Wait a minute!
Smith was indeed a professor at Orlando Academy!
"Interesting!"
Xia Yu narrowed his eyes slightly.
Some small fry had been arrested by the police the other day, which was inconsequential to Smith and Lancelot. Chances were that during this exchange visit, he would be able to publicly embarrass that guy and vent his frustration.
"You call it an exchange, but in reality, it’s a competition between academies!"
Ichise Hui said somberly: "These past two days, we’ve had our wins and losses against Orlando, it’s pretty much a tie."
"But there’s been an unexpected situation today."
He looked at Xia Yu with a hopeful gaze, pleadingly said: "Instructor Auson of the second-year decoration class, he fell and injured himself at home last night, fracturing his right hand, and he won’t be able to cook for at least half a month!"
"You mean you want me to substitute teach?" Even Xia Yu, who was slower on the uptake, got it now.
He was dumbfounded.
He wasn’t going to complain about Instructor Auson’s fracture; when you’re down on your luck, you could choke on water.
The problem was, with the second-grade ’decoration class,’ he’d never taken it himself, didn’t know the content—how was he supposed to substitute teach?
They’ve got the wrong guy!
With a vein popping on his forehead, Xia Yu looked at Ichise Hui’s face suspiciously, tilting his head from side to side, and said, "Hey Ichise, you’re not pulling a prank on me, are you?"
Upon hearing this, Ichise Hui was taken aback.
"A prank?"
He opened his mouth, eager to explain, when the driver in the seat spoke up, saying, "This is not a prank! This matter concerns the honor of Far Moon, and as a member of Far Moon, Instructor Xia, you should contribute!"
A deep, solemn male voice.
"Professor Roland Chapele?"
Xia Yu glanced over and was startled upon realizing that the driver was none other than the respected old professor, whose name was known throughout Far Moon and whom graduates like Dojima Yin held in high esteem.
"Miss Tiqie mentioned yesterday that you have quite the skills in decoration and carving."
The stern face of Roland Chapele reflected in the rearview mirror of the car.
"Decoration and carving?"
Xia Yu understood and felt a subtly awkward embarrassment.
Quite the skills?
He’d only studied it for a few days and was still in the process of learning. He coughed and modestly said, "I wouldn’t say I’ve got skills, just some little insights; I can’t compare myself to the experts in this field..."
"That’s more than enough!" Professor Roland Chapele said, leaving no room for doubt, "Orlando Academy’s champion is Smith, and Dojima Yin strongly recommended you to substitute teach! The exchange classroom is about to begin!"
What a coincidence!
Xia Yu had been planning to decline, but upon hearing that Smith was the opponent, a fire suddenly ignited within him.
"Do you feel confident?"
In the rearview mirror of the car, Professor Roland Chapele asked gravely.
Ichise Hui was also gazing intently at him.
"I can’t speak for decoration, but when it comes to carving, I suppose I could be considered an expert." Xia Yu chuckled without completing his sentence.
Ten minutes later.
Educational district.
Ichise Hui led Xia Yu to the rest area of a large classroom used for public lectures, furnished with a few chairs. Xia Yu casually sat down and pulled out a sheathed small knife from somewhere on his person.
Startled, Ichise Hui examined Xia Yu and asked hesitantly, "Instructor Xia, do you carry that knife with you all the time?"
"Of course, what else did you think?"
It wasn’t the Breaking Army Saber or other large kitchen knives. The Wenqu Saber was actually a carving knife, and there were plenty of places on his person to conceal it, so Xia Yu could easily bluff his way through.
As expected, Ichise Hui didn’t press on and started pacing inside the room.
At this moment, information about the ’Wenqu Saber’ appeared on Xia Yu’s retinal display:
"[Seven Star Blade·Wenqu]: A purple famed blade, one of the true ’Seven Stars Knives.’ Even if placed beside the real thing, even the revered bladesmith Roger, resurrected from a hundred years past, would struggle to spot the difference."
"Effect 1: When used for carving, it increases fine craftsmanship by 50%."
"Effect 2: ’Seven Stars Soul’ (2/7)[Locked]."
"Note: If the host collects all seven famed pieces of the ’Seven Stars Knife,’ the ’Seven Stars Soul’ can be unlocked, granting Effect 2 and boosting the data of Effect 1."
This knife was the source of confidence that allowed Xia Yu to take on this job!
In the two or three days since acquiring the Wenqu Saber, along with the foreseeable "Talent for Craftsmanship," Xia Yu had been working on the Great Magic Panda Tofu and intentionally training his own carving skills.
Suddenly, there was a clutter of footsteps outside the door.
Xia Yu’s ears twitched, and he turned off the display.
