Chapter 141: Chapter 141 Where Has All the Money Gone (2)_1
"Grandpa, there’s no demonic aura on them, and definitely no ghosts. It must be their own minds playing tricks, unrelated to any specters." Qi Zhuochen’s clear eyes glanced at the two before he crisply spoke. His words were incongruous with his tender years.
"You both heard him. What you saw wasn’t a ghost. It must be someone’s deliberate doing." Old Man Qi nodded, showing his agreement with his grandson’s words.
"Impossible, it can’t be human intervention. I saw Wanyou fly out of the window with my own eyes, vanishing within the room."
"I saw it too. It really was Sister! Old Qi, for that person’s sake, please help us. If you see it with your own eyes tonight, you’ll understand what’s going on. Please, Old Sir, help us; we’ll be eternally grateful."
"Old Qi, please, help us. Name your price. Whatever the condition, I’ll agree."
"Grandpa, why don’t we take a look tonight?" Qi Zhuochen’s eyes twinkled; he, too, was curious. What could it be, if not a ghost, that had frightened these two so thoroughly?
"Fine. I’ll consider it a favor repaid. After this, our accounts will be settled," the old man stroked his chin and nodded.
"Thank you, Old Qi! Thank you! Let’s go back now; hopefully, we can draw that thing out." Shen Cheng breathed a sigh of relief, his face breaking into a genuine smile.
"We’ll go back and grab some things before heading to the Shen Mansion."
"Right, right."
Shangguan You sneered. To think they could escape her talisman was nothing but a dream. Whether Old Man Qi truly had the ability to discern and capture ghosts or was just a charlatan, no one could lift the talisman from Shen Cheng and the others.
In a flash, Shangguan You returned to the private room. After the meal, the group disbanded.
"We’ll meet again," Ye San Shao whispered into her ear as he left. Shangguan You inwardly cursed him as a lunatic and glared daggers at him before following her family home.
Observing the quiet Shangguan Rou beside her, Shangguan You glanced at her a few times, surprised. I already removed the talisman from her, so why is Shangguan Rou so quiet? Is she plotting some new scheme to harm me?
Shangguan Rou was, indeed, still thinking about how to get Shangguan You to hand over the two hundred million US dollars. She was fantasizing about all the beautiful clothes and jewelry she would buy with the money. Lost in her daydream, Shangguan Rou naturally had no time to bother Shangguan You.
Unfortunately for her, this was merely a daydream. She would never get a single cent from Shangguan You.
When the group returned home, the house was already brightly lit. Shangguan Yu and Shangguan Zhi were in the study, while Old Madam Shangguan, Liu Ruoling, and Li Wanying were chatting and laughing together. Li Wanying was also waiting for her daughter so they could go home together.
"Mommy, Grandma, Auntie!" Shangguan Rou called out sweetly the moment she stepped inside. She then snuggled coquettishly into Old Madam Shangguan’s embrace, her eyes darting around as she schemed how to phrase her request so Shangguan You would willingly hand over the money to her mother.
"Grandma, Auntie Li, Auntie."
"Youyou, you’re back! You must be tired. Come here, to your Auntie," Liu Ruoling said warmly, then instructed Zhang Ma to bring out the ginger soup prepared for them. "It’ll warm you up. The weather is still quite cold, so it’s important to ward off the chill and avoid getting sick."
"Yes, Youyou, come to Auntie Li. Let me see, are you tired?" Li Wanying chimed in smoothly, smiling at Shangguan You.
"Not tired. Thank you, Auntie; thank you, Auntie Li." Shangguan You sat beside Liu Ruoling, affectionately linking arms with her. Li Wanying’s expression flickered, a momentary stiffness on her face before she resumed her gentle smile, watching the affectionate display between Shangguan You and Liu Ruoling.
"Miss, Young Master Qing, please drink this. It will drive away the cold. It was specially prepared for you," Zhang Ma said, walking out with two bowls of ginger soup and attentively serving them. She didn’t spare Shangguan Rou a single glance.
"Zhang Ma, I want some too! It’s so cold outside. Thank you, Zhang Ma," Shangguan Rou said sweetly, unfazed by Zhang Ma’s cold attitude. She had thick skin, after all. If you don’t offer, I’ll just ask. Let’s see you refuse me then!
"Yes, Zhang Ma, bring a bowl for Rou’er as well," Old Madam Shangguan interjected at the right moment, breaking the tension in the living room. "It wouldn’t be good if she got sick. It’s so cold outside; I’d be worried if she really fell ill." Zhang Ma was loyal to Shangguan You’s mother, naturally siding with Shangguan You and treating Li Wanying and Shangguan Rou as if they were invisible.
Even the Old Master couldn’t do anything about this Zhang Ma. She wasn’t on the Shangguan Family payroll, nor did she live in the Shangguan household; her expenses were covered by ’that side.’ Consequently, Old Madam Shangguan was usually rather indifferent towards Zhang Ma. However, seeing her most beloved granddaughter receive such treatment, she naturally felt compelled to take her side.
"Zhang Ma, go on, bring a bowl for Rou’er," Li Wanying also spoke up. Compared to Old Madam Shangguan’s subtlety, her tone was much more direct, as if ordering a servant.
Shangguan You’s gaze turned cold. Zhang Ma is not a servant of the Li Family. What right does this Li Wanying have to order my people around?
"Old Madam, Mrs. Li, Miss Li, I apologize," Zhang Ma said calmly, refusing them. "I only prepared two bowls, specifically for our Miss and Young Master Qing. There are no extras." If that woman, Li Wanying, had spoken as politely as Old Madam Shangguan, she might have given the girl a bowl. But with that kind of tone, she’d rather pour it out than let them drink it.
"Mommy!" Shangguan Rou whined slightly, glaring unhappily at Zhang Ma. Li Wanying shot her daughter a look, signaling her to appeal to Shangguan You.
"Sister, I want some too. I don’t want to get sick either. Could you ask Zhang Ma to prepare a bowl for me, please? Sister?" Shangguan Rou stood up from Old Madam Shangguan’s side, affectionately took Shangguan You’s hand, and shot a triumphant look at Zhang Ma. Zhang Ma’s expression turned grim. This shameless mother-daughter duo is truly despicable!
