Chapter 60: Bait For The Beast
A week had passed, and Rachel was beginning to crumble.
Leon’s phone had been buzzing nonstop with her desperate calls and messages.
Diane sat across from her father in his office, watching as he read through yet another text from Rachel.
-Rachel: Leon, you bastard! You think you can take everything from me?! I swear on everything, you will regret this!-
-Rachel: You can’t keep Arthur from me! I am his mother! Do you hear me?-
-Rachel: Leon, please... I need money.-
Leon let out a slow breath, tossing his phone onto the desk. "Pathetic."
Diane smirked. "She’s desperate."
Leon nodded. "Which means Richard is running dry."
Diane leaned back in her chair, crossing her legs.
"Good. That means he’s becoming reckless. And reckless men make mistakes."
Leon eyed her carefully. "What exactly are you planning, Diane?"
She smiled, slow and as evil as possible. "Just wait and see."
The birthday event was a perfect bait for Dian.
The plan was simple.
Make herself look weak. Vulnerable.
Make Richard think she was alone.
The birthday event of Leon’s uncle was the perfect place to do it.
A crowded venue, families laughing and celebrating, children running around—it was a setting where no one would expect violence.
And that’s exactly why Diane knew Richard would take the bait.
She arrived at the event with Gabriel beside her.
It was the first time they had been seen together at a public gathering since everything had fallen apart.
Gabriel, as always, looked untouchable.
He wore a nice black suit, commanding the attention of everyone in the room.
Diane played her part perfectly.
She smiled politely at the guests, nodded at the people who greeted her, and laughed softly at meaningless small talk.
But the moment she felt the eyes on her—those dark, familiar eyes watching her from the corners of the room—she knew it was time.
She placed a gentle hand on Gabriel’s arm. "I need some air," she murmured.
Gabriel’s eyes turned smaller with suspicion. "Diane—"
"I’ll be fine." She gave him a reassuring smile before stepping away.
She walked toward the back of the venue, slipping into the quiet evening air.
And then she waited.
The shadows moved.
And before she could even take another breath—
A cloth pressed against her face.
The scent of chemicals filled her lungs, and the world spun into darkness.
Diane’s head throbbed as she slowly regained consciousness.
The room was with darker lights, the stench of old cigarettes and sweat filled her nostrils.
Her wrists were bound, her arms pulled tightly behind her back.
The cold concrete beneath her was rough, pressing painfully against her knees.
And then—
A slow clap echoed through the empty room.
Diane lifted her head.
’Richard...’ She knew it immediately. He was so predictable and a cheap copy of a real gangster.
He was in front of her, a smirk stretched across his face.
His once-pristine suit was wrinkled, his eyes bloodshot from lack of sleep.
But the worst part?
He was grinning.
"Well, well, well," Richard purred. "Look who finally decided to wake up."
Diane’s lips curled into a smirk. "Took you long enough."
Richard’s eyes darkened.
The first hit came fast.
A sharp slap across her face.
Her head snapped to the side, pain bloomed across her cheek, but she didn’t react.
Richard clicked his tongue. "Still arrogant, huh?"
Diane exhaled slowly. "I was hoping you’d lost your touch, old man. Guess not."
Richard’s face twisted and was soon covered in wrinkles from the frowns, and this time, the punch landed.
Her vision blurred for a second, pain exploded across her jaw.
She spit out blood, licking the metallic taste from her lips.
Richard crouched in front of her, gripping her chin harshly.
"You think you’re clever, don’t you? You think you can take everything from me and get away with it?"
Diane stared at him, unbothered by his shit. "I don’t think, Richard. I know."
His grip tightened painfully before he suddenly let go, standing up and pacing the room.
"You’ve always been imperfect," he sneered. "From the moment I laid eyes on you, I knew you were a disappointment."
Diane’s fingers twitched, but she remained still.
Richard’s voice grew crueler.
"Look at you now. That ugly curly hair—makes you look like a stray dog. Maybe I should have shaved it off when I had the chance."
Diane clenched her jaw.
Richard chuckled loudly, but he sounded like a little hurt chihuahua instead of a pitbull.
"And those eyes... those stupid eyes that remind me of your old bitch mother. Maybe I should just rip them out, huh? Pluck them right out of your head."
Diane finally looked up at him, coldly and with no emotion like sympathy.
"You can try."
Richard’s smirk faltered slightly.
Diane tilted her head. "But you won’t."
Richard frowned, his eyes narrowing. "And why’s that?"
Diane leaned in, her lips formed a small smirk that blessed her whole face.
"Because you’re already dead."
Richard froze.
"What the fuck are you talking about?" He ran his hand through his unwashed hair. "Bitch, I will kill you..."
"And why would you do that?"
"Because Gabriel’s and Leon’s money is in your hands! In your hands, you bitch! And you’re not giving me anything from it!"
Richard grabbed her hair, and pushed her to the ground.
"You stinky slut, giving your body away....impure, unholy bitch!" Richard gritted his teeth as he dragged Diane through the floor.
The chair was following, tagging along like an old friend.
It caused Diane some bruises, but she knew that the pain was worth the wait.
"You abandoned us! Us! When we gave you everything!" He stopped, and ripped the back of Diane’s dress.
She felt exposed, feeling the air coming through the ceiling.
"Ho-how dare you? How dare you? Ever since I sold you to that bastard my life became worse! How dare you?!"
Small blood came from Diane’s lips, she choked, but decided to make her statement.
"Why are you blaming me for your failures? The money from my father or Gabriel wasn’t yours, to begin with."
"Ohh...playing smart to get, huh..." Richard’s body was shaking.
He started to unbutton his belt.
Diane’s eyes popped out, "wh-what are you doing?" She trembled at the view.
"I will teach you a lesson on how to be an obedient bitch for a breeding only."
