Reborn as the Third Prince: To Build and Conquer my way to Royalty. -
Chapter 82: A few new changes.
Chapter 82: A few new changes.
A few days later...
After he had gotten rid of the Red Vipers, Sylus decided to take the mansion that once belonged to Count Eric and make it his own.
At first, he threw Eric’s wife in jail for directly supporting her husband in his bad leadership, and then he began throwing out the unwanted stuff in the mansion, which included their clothes and personal belongings.
With that done, Sylus renovated the entire place—although Alfred did most of the work.
In fact, Alfred had taken his place as the headmaster among the workers, and many of them had already begun to respect him. That alone made Sylus reconsider Alfred’s position in the new territory.
That said, Sylus knew if he was going to improve the city in any way, he needed to get rid of the bad eggs, and so, he called forth the nobles under Linye City.
Inside the room, Sylus stood at the very front, on a red chair with golden arms and a soft, foamy surface for him to sit on.
Behind him were Zani and Sophia, both of whom were intimidating to say the least.
All the way down, starting from Sylus’s position, were rows of chairs, each facing each other in a way that made it easy to see the faces of every single person in the room.
At the center, a long table, not too close and not too far as well.
On the table was a map of the city, along with a crystal red ball Sylus had placed there prior to the meeting.
’Looks like they are all here...’ Sylus read the expression on the faces of every single individual in the room with him, and it wasn’t hard to tell what they were thinking.
Some of them hated him; that much was obvious after what he did to the city. Some were scared, and others, well, they seemed intrigued—eager to know what the third prince was about. That could be a good or bad thing, depending on the context.
After a while of scanning their faces, Sylus looked at the paper in his hand, which contained the list of nobles present before him.
There were five barons/viscounts, ten lords/knights, and then about 45 other lesser nobles, although only three of those were present, which were the head priest of the church, the principal of the Linye academy, and the House of Rac, which was a growing company in the city.
With all said and done, only a few of the nobles were in the Lower City, despite their land being based there.
Not to mention, some of the nobles were working for the count as well, following his every word. That being the case, it was obvious they held some kind of loyalty toward him.
Thankfully, Sylus had the perfect aspect to battle it out.
"Yiol Daini," Sylus called out.
"Yes, my lord," the nobleman responded.
He had long brown hair and was dressed in moderate wear, no different from an average citizen of the city.
"I hear you battled the Red Vipers with your army of fifteen soldiers for a while and eventually gave up. Do you believe this to be the truth?"
The man looked to the side, guilt plastered on his face. "Y-yes, my lord. We had no way to fight them; I didn’t have a choice."
Sylus smiled, "No, you did well."
Yiol looked at Sylus, almost amazed.
"From what I can see here, only four nobles did anything against the corruption happening in the city, with a population of over 50,000 people. I find that to be quite sad. As such, I have made a pretty drastic decision."
He threw the paper on the table.
"As of today, only the names checked here are to take on the duties I set forth. Those who are not on the list are hereby relieved of their duties and are to either remain as citizens or leave Linye."
Fear? Or was it panic? Either way, the dread on their faces was evident.
It seemed as though everyone was afraid to take the paper and look for their names.
At least, that seemed to be the case for a while.
A nun with long blonde hair suddenly stretched her hand to the side. "Please pass the list; I would like to check mine."
The nobleman closest to the paper passed it to her without a second’s hesitation.
Sylus watched as the woman scanned the list with her eyes, trying to look for her name.
’Sandra Queens. Her father used to be the priest of the church until she took over. If I remember correctly, they took in homeless people and raised them with the little funds they were getting from the county.’
A joyful look suddenly played on the woman’s face before she turned her gaze toward Sylus.
"My lord, this is too much; I can’t accept this."
Sylus waved his hand nonchalantly. "You deserve it. With this, it should be easier for you to help the kids more. A good environment is important."
"Half of the Blue District? What if I don’t manage it properly?"
"Then I guess you have to start learning. You’ll be taking over the entire place and turning it into a place for the children to learn and grow."
Sandra almost teared up. "Thank you, my lord; I promise to do my best."
While she was happy, another noble was in shock—the baron of the Blue District. He just realized the prince gave half his land to the nun, something that had never been heard of.
"Give me that!"
He stood up and snatched the paper, immediately scanning to find his name.
And when he finally saw it—
"THE HELL?!" He turned to the prince. "My lord! Why am I not on the list?! I have in no way violated the rules; I made sure the barony was going smoothly!"
Sighing, Sylus looked at the man with disinterest.
"You did so to the people you deemed worthy. From what I know, you pulled out all your resources from the Lower City rather than helping them. You are not fit to rule on my land. Be gone."
