Chapter 686: The Silent Oath of Love ( 686 )
The next day.
The wedding celebration was already lively once more. Songs echoed across the second day of festivity, and the courtyard was packed with guests—nobles, elves, dignitaries, and their entourages.
But away from the crowd, near the edge of the estate, under the dappled light filtering through tall silverleaf trees…
Javier was already mounted on his Pekko, Buddy. The large orange bird puffed his chest proudly as if sensing something important was about to happen.
Not far from him, Liana and Gloria stood in front of their parents.
“We’re going now, Mother. Father,” Gloria said with a polite bow to her elven father and her human mother.
“I’ll send a letter to you all later.”
Her voice was calm, but a subtle fondness lingered in her gaze.
Genevieve, her mother, was already sniffling. “My baby girl… going back to Armand… sob sob…”
“Mother…” Gloria gave a small sigh but didn’t stop her from clinging.
Her brothers were awkwardly trying not to get pulled into Genevieve’s emotional storm. Even her father gently patted her shoulder, offering a rare smile to his daughter.
Beside them, Liana was giving her own polite bow toward her parents.
Viessa crossed her arms, but her face was softer than the day before.
“I’ll keep writing,” Liana said, “but for now… I must go back.”
“You’re just maids,” her father muttered quietly.
Liana smiled. “No. We’re his maids, his guardians, and future brides.”
Before her father could reply, she turned gracefully on her heel and walked toward Javier.
Viessa exhaled deeply and waved her fan once. “Just don’t run away again,” she said, not even trying to sound stern.
“I won’t, Mother,” Liana replied softly. “As long as you don’t arrange my marriage again. And I’m sorry… I won’t marry anyone unless it’s that Armand boy.”
“Hmph! Suit yourself,” Viessa muttered, trying to hide the sigh in her chest.
Liana bowed once more, her posture graceful and polite. “I’m going now.”
Just then, Lyzia rushed toward her and wrapped her arms tightly around Liana. “Sister… come back when you have time, okay?”
“Mhm, I will.” Liana gently embraced her back, then leaned down to whisper in her ear, “Be a good girl. And if Mother and Father ever try to arrange your marriage—run to Armand.”
Lyzia’s eyes widened for a moment, then she nodded. “Mm… I will,” she whispered shyly.
Liana gave her one last pat on the head. “I’m going now,” she said with her usual calm, serene voice.
She turned and walked toward her Pekko, Pikko, who was already standing beside Buddy. The silver-orange bird perked up at her approach.
On the other side, Gloria had mounted her own Pekko, Peanut, already prepared and quietly waiting.
Liana and Gloria bowed slightly from atop their Pekkos, offering a final gesture of respect toward their parents. From her saddle, Liana gave a gentle wave to Lyzia, Qamara, Enania, and her two brothers, her serene smile never faltering.
Then, with a soft tap of her heel, she guided Pikko forward—her silver-orange Pekko gracefully following behind Buddy, who carried Javier at the front.
Javier let out a long, tired sigh.
His gaze remained low, trying his best to avoid making eye contact with anyone in the crowd. The entire wedding had been lively, beautiful even, but ever since Liana and Gloria had so casually declared him a womanizer who made girls pregnant and abandoned them… he felt like every pair of eyes was either judging or silently praying to be spared his “dangerous” charm.
He wasn’t trying to avoid their families.
He genuinely wanted to say goodbye properly.
But now? After that outrageous story?
Every time he so much as glanced toward someone, they flinched or looked away, as if he’d cast a forbidden spell on them.
“Ugh…” Javier slumped a little in his saddle, whispering to himself, “I didn’t even do anything…”
Up ahead, Liana glanced back with a teasing smile, clearly hearing him.
“Cheer up, young master~ At least no one tried to stop us.”
“…Because they think I’m cursed,” he muttered, defeated.
Gloria chuckled softly beside him. “Mmm… That just means you’re ours now. Who would dare touch you?”
Javier looked at both of them and sighed again.
Liana smiled sweetly, her posture graceful as her Pekko, Pikko, trotted beside Buddy on his right side. On the left, Gloria rode Peanut with silent elegance, the trio moving in unison as they left the elven courtyard behind.
“Be grateful, young master,” Liana said, her voice teasing but calm. “At least you had the rare chance to hug my mother and bury your face right into her chest~”
“Ugh… it wasn’t intentional,” Javier grumbled, not even trying to hide his embarrassment. “You know my vision was blurred, and my head was still hazy from mana exhaustion.”
“Mm~ yes,” Liana cooed.
“And yet… you happily inhaled her scent, didn’t you~?”
Javier froze in his saddle.
“That’s a lie!!”
Gloria chuckled gently, not missing a beat. “Ara… but I did see you clinging to her quite firmly.”
“That was instinct!!” Javier protested.
“Ah~ so your instincts are to latch onto any beautiful woman nearby?” Liana said with a sharp smile, eyes closed but clearly full of menace.
“N-No! That’s not what I meant!”
“Fufufu~” Gloria covered her mouth as she laughed. “It’s fine, young master. I suppose we’ll just have to keep you far away from any other ‘motherly’ types from now on.”
Liana spoke next, her voice calm and gentle—almost musical—but with that unmistakable firmness beneath the softness.
“Don’t even think about getting lucky like Master Marcellus… who ended up with both a mother and daughter pair,” she said, tilting her head slightly, eyes half-lidded. “With us around, you won’t get that lucky~”
“Wha—!? I’m not thinking that!” Javier sputtered, nearly falling off Buddy in shock.
“Good~” Liana replied, her tone sweet like honey. “Because you should feel lucky already… to have us.”
Gloria added smoothly, “And don’t forget the other four who are already entangled with you, young master.”
Javier groaned, slumping forward as Buddy let out a low, amused cuquawk.
“…This life is getting harder to manage…” he muttered.
“Then you better not add more to it~” Liana cooed, her fingers lightly brushing his shoulder. “Unless you want to be buried before you reach adulthood~”
