Chapter 685: Young Love and Dangerous Promises ( 685 )
Javier looked around the wedding celebration, observing the elegant setup, the glowing lanterns strung across the courtyard, and the clusters of nobles chatting cheerfully under the night sky.
Then suddenly.
“Gyarrrrhhh!! My eyes!!” he shouted, flinching.
“Ah!! Sorry young master!!” Liana gasped, feigning panic. “I didn’t mean to!” she said quickly.
She leaned close and gently blew at his eye.
“There, there~ does it feel better?” she cooed sweetly.
Javier blinked rapidly, still holding his eye. “Liana! You totally did that on purpose!”
“Ehh~? No way~ How could I ever hurt my precious young master?” she said with a teasing lilt, cupping his cheek innocently. “Maybe your eye just wanted attention~”
“I’ll show you attention—”
“Ah ah~ behave~” Liana whispered, tapping his nose lightly and returning to her composed, lovely smile as if nothing had happened.
Gloria, nearby with a cup of juice, didn’t even look up. “He’s lucky you only poked one eye this time.”
“If it were me,” Gloria said calmly, sipping her drink, “I’d gouge your eyes out, young master.”
Javier froze.
His shoulders stiffened. His mouth opened slightly… but no words came out.
Inside his mind—
“…I didn’t even look at anyone… What did I do to deserve this? Are they jealous or overprotective? Or both?!”
He glanced around.
The elven maidens nearby avoided eye contact with him. One even turned completely around, pretending to admire a flower pot.
“Seriously?!” Javier groaned inwardly. “I didn’t even try to flirt this time! And now they believe what Liana and Gloria said? Ugh…”
He let out a small defeated sigh.
“…Like I ever made anyone pregnant… I don’t even have the chance to do it yet…”
Javier slumped slightly in his seat, eyes blank.
Liana casually leaned on his shoulder, smiling.
“You’re thinking something stupid again, aren’t you, young master~?”
“…No,” Javier muttered.
“Liar~” she and Gloria said in unison.
Javier glanced around the courtyard, eyes scanning the crowd.
He furrowed his brows.
“Where’s Buddy…?”
Liana’s voice slid in smoothly beside him, sweet yet laced with danger.
“Young master~ looking at girls again?”
“N-No, Liana—I’m looking for Buddy!” Javier defended.
Gloria raised an eyebrow. “That’s a new one.”
“Seriously! I just want to check if he’s—”
“Behind you, young master~,” Liana chimed, still smiling innocently.
“Huh?” Javier blinked and turned his head.
His eyes widened.
Buddy, his majestic orange Pekko, was indeed standing behind him, puffing his chest proudly.
Before Javier could react further, a sharp jab landed cleanly in his stomach.
His whole body jolted forward slightly, clutching his gut.
“Guhh—!!”
Liana’s fist had struck with precision, all while her face remained terrifyingly serene.
“Now, now, young master~” she cooed, tilting her head sweetly.
“I-It’s true! I swear I wasn’t looking at any girls this time! I really was looking for Buddy!!”
“Yes, yes~ Like we believe that,” Gloria said calmly, arms crossed.
“You always say that~” Liana added, gently adjusting his collar again with an unnerving smile.
Liana smiled sweetly, but her fingers pinched Javier’s cheek just enough to make him wince.
“Don’t blame us, young master… you started all of this~”
Gloria calmly sipped her juice beside them. “Indeed. You were the one who made all those promises…”
“And now,” Liana continued, still smiling dangerously, “we’ve decided it’s in our best interest to keep you in check. For everyone’s safety, of course~”
“Y-You two sound like villains,” Javier muttered.
Liana leaned in, whispering beside his ear, “You did promise to make us your brides, remember?”
Javier froze, caught.
“And let me warn you, young master,” Liana said, her tone suddenly cool. “If you don’t want us… just say it now. We’re not going to wait forever. We’ll find another candidate~”
“NO!!” Javier jumped from his seat, eyes wide. “You both are mine!!”
Gloria raised an eyebrow. “Oh my…”
Liana blinked in surprise, then smiled slowly. “Good… then it’s settled~”
She leaned on his arm again, satisfied.
Gloria chuckled softly and rested her head on his other shoulder.
“Our young master finally said something right~”
Liana gently tapped her thigh, the signal clear.
“Young master…”
Javier smiled softly and didn’t hesitate. He scooted his chair closer, then laid his head down on her lap, closing his eyes in contentment.
Liana smiled, her fingers brushing through his hair tenderly.
“Good boy~”
She gazed down at him—his face so close, so calm. The soft breeze played with a few strands of his hair, and in that moment, nothing else mattered.
Inside , her thoughts whispered fiercely:
You are ours, young master…
I will never let anyone else have you before me and Gloria.
Don’t even think about running. Because this heart—this foolish heart—has already fallen too deep for you.
And I’ll make sure…
Our promise will be fulfilled.
Liana smiled softly as Gloria brought her chair close, settling beside them. With a gentle hand, Gloria began caressing Javier’s hair, her touch delicate and soothing.
Javier had already fallen asleep—his breathing slow and peaceful. Maybe it was the relief, or maybe just exhaustion after that reckless solo journey across kingdoms.
Buddy, his loyal Pekko, was nearby. The big bird casually reached over Javier’s plate and helped himself to the leftovers, pecking with quiet satisfaction.
“Ahem.”
Liana looked up.
Her expression didn’t change even when she saw her mother standing there.
“Liana,” Viessa said, her tone calm but firm, “your father is calling.”
Liana’s voice was steady, her hand never leaving Javier’s head.
“I’m sorry, Mother,” she replied softly. “But I’m attending to this boy first.”
Viessa raised her fan, ready to give Liana’s forehead a light smack as any stern mother would.
But then she paused.
Liana wasn’t being cheeky or rebellious—her face was serene, calm and serious.
That made Viessa lower her hand. She studied her daughter’s expression for a moment, then glanced at the boy sleeping peacefully on her lap.
“This boy… he’s Garius’s son, isn’t he?”
“Yes,” Liana answered without hesitation.
Viessa narrowed her eyes slightly. “What is he to both of you?”
Liana didn’t flinch. Instead, she smiled faintly, her hand still brushing Javier’s hair gently.
“We are his future brides,” she said softly. “And we are in love with this boy.”
Viessa blinked. “But Mylezra said he’s still thirteen.”
“He is,” Liana nodded. “But next month, he turns fourteen. Only four more years before he’s officially an adult by human standard. Besides… the marriage laws never specify age. They only speak of consent.”
Viessa was silent.
“And he already said,” Liana added with a quiet pride, “that he will marry us both when he turns eighteen. So… we wait.”
Viessa folded her arms. Her voice lowered, firm but not harsh.
“…What if we, your parents, don’t agree?”
Liana didn’t flinch. She simply smiled.
“I’ll just run away again,” she said, calm as ever.
Viessa’s brow twitched. “You said he’s a womanizer.”
“Hm? Yes,” Liana replied, as if stating the weather. “Because we weren’t around to control him. Or maybe it’s just his way to get our attention. He wasn’t like that before… he used to be clingy—always following us around, calling us pretty.”
She glanced at Javier, eyes soft.
“And believe me, Mother, most of the Armand family never cared much for status. Their nobles marry more than one—it’s normal. Lady Francesca, his mother, already knows about us. Lord Garius too. They didn’t object.”
Viessa stayed silent.
Gloria finally spoke, her tone gentle but unwavering.
“We know what kind of man he is. And we’re not choosing him out of fantasy or rebellion. We chose him because… we love him.”
“And he loves us,” Liana added, brushing Javier’s cheek with her knuckle.
