Chapter 984: Chapter 984: No one in this world is more handsome and charming than you

Mary Scott didn’t expect that even after calling him "hubby," she still couldn’t escape. She was pinned against the back of the sofa, her face aggrieved, "I really didn’t..."

"Would Mrs. Twain say otherwise?" Remembering his mother’s earnest suggestion that he see a male doctor, David Locke felt a twitch in his eyebrows. He used to mock his cousin behind his back for being impotent, only to be advised by his own grandfather to see a male doctor. Now, it seemed like karma was coming back to get him.

Mary Scott raised her hands, "Really, I didn’t. She just let her imagination run wild!"

After speaking, Mary sincerely blinked at David Locke, "Really, she might have thought that since you hurt your leg, maybe it could affect... you know."

The more she spoke, the worse the man’s expression became, so Mary wisely shut her mouth.

David Locke exhaled sharply, knowing Mary Scott was probably not wrong. As a top screenwriter, his mother always had a vivid imagination, and such a thing could indeed happen.

"She thinks I’m not up to it, and you didn’t explain for me? Are you also not quite satisfied?" David Locke asked Mary Scott as he came back to his senses.

This was far too much to bear; Mary Scott quickly waved her hands, "No, no, how could that be possible? I’m very satisfied with you, actually, especially satisfied!"

"If you’re satisfied yet didn’t clarify for me, that means you’re still not satisfied." David Locke said, wrapping a big hand around Mary Scott’s waist.

Mary Scott panicked, "Don’t act recklessly, your leg isn’t healed yet. Did you forget what the doctor said last time?"

In broad daylight, with the Lockes still outside, merely thinking about it made Mary’s cheeks flush. Looking at the man in front of her, with his shirt lazily undone, exuding an enticing sexiness, possibly a mix of anger and passion, making him all the more alluring. After speaking, Mary licked her dry lips and heard the man say in a threatening tone, "So, you’re saying you still think I’m not up to it, right?"

Mary felt wronged like a wrongfully accused criminal, holding up the man leaning over her, shaking her head at him, "Your parents are outside."

"So what?" David Locke said as he leaned in to capture Mary’s lips, only to be interrupted by the buzzing of the phone thrown aside.

Mary hurriedly pressed a hand against David Locke, "Phone, phone!"

"Ignore it." David Locke, consumed by desire, rubbed his thumb over Mary’s lips, poised to kiss again when Mary’s phone also started ringing.

This time, Mary couldn’t ignore it, she pushed David Locke away and dashed into the bathroom.

David Locke watched the little woman flee in panic, chuckled lightly, and only when Mary closed the door did he step forward to retrieve his phone.

Bathroom.

Mary exhaled, using cold water to cool her flushed cheeks before answering the call.

Mia Anderson reminded her to get to the airport on time tomorrow; the recording location for "Detectives and Wilderness" this time was an island in Malaysia.

Mary agreed, then Mia continued, "Hey, a few companies have extended invitations to you, the most famous is Grand Entertainment, and the most generous is Royal Entertainment. Do you have a preference?"

"There’s no rush on this, I have a plan." Spending the morning shopping with Mrs. Locke and then being disturbed by David Locke just now, Mary almost forgot these matters. Now with Mia mentioning it, she remembered David Locke’s suggestion to her earlier.

Mia sensed that Mary probably had made a decision, so she didn’t dwell on it, just reminded her of the departure time again before preparing to hang up. Unexpectedly, Mary asked first, "Do you know about ’The Geisha’ being postponed and the new movie losing its funding?"

Not expecting Mary to ask this, Mia was taken aback, probing, "Didn’t Director Locke tell you?"

"So you have heard, do you know what’s going on?" Mary’s inquiry to Mia suggested that the rumors might be accurate.

Mia felt a bit uneasy, but answered honestly, "I heard that Director Locke might have offended someone previously, and they declared in the industry that they wouldn’t let him make another movie."

Mary furrowed her brows, "Do you know who they are?"

"I only heard rumors, don’t know if they’re true, but if someone really intends to target Director Locke, you probably will be implicated too, better make plans early." At this point, Mia’s tone was a bit serious, they had just managed to clear Mary’s bad reputation a bit, the netizens were changing their views, and all sorts of opportunities came in droves. Now, Director Locke offended someone again, and who knows what could happen.

Mia truly felt that Mary’s life was full of ups and downs.

"I understand." Mary hung up, looking at her reflection in the mirror, her cheeks no longer pink but pale, she sighed lightly, wiped her face with a towel, and then turned to leave the bathroom.

But there was no sign of him in the room, Mary hesitated a bit before heading towards the study room.

"The press release about the postponement of ’The Doctors’ can be issued. Also, notify the signed actors to wait for the outcome." Just as she reached the door, Mary heard David Locke speaking, her frown deepening.

She was now sure the online rumors were not completely unfounded, her situation eventually affected him.

Mid-sentence, David Locke suddenly looked toward the door as if on instinct, then strode forward to open it, sure enough, seeing Mary standing there in a daze, he was momentarily stunned, "Why are you standing outside the study daydreaming?"

"Is the project for ’The Doctors’ ruined? Is it because of me?" Previously, Mary had planned to leave the entertainment industry for fear that her influence on David Locke might offend too many people, making it hard for him to move forward in the circle. To her surprise, she had been exonerated, yet his career was still affected, filling her with guilt.

Hearing Mary’s words, David Locke understood she must have overheard his conversation, so he reached out to ruffle her hair, "Why do you love taking the blame so much? Whether a project goes smoothly depends on many factors; it’s not something you can shoulder just because you want to, besides, this project is all good and will proceed smoothly."

"Really?" Mary felt David Locke might be deceiving her; the online rumors were rampant, he had just told someone on the phone to release a statement delaying "The Doctors," and the insider information Mia heard, all made Mary doubt David Locke’s words at the moment.

"Why would I lie to you?" David Locke met Mary’s skeptical eyes and shook his head helplessly, "Did you hear my call just now? I did instruct to release a statement about delaying ’The Doctors’ filming, but not because the project is doomed, it was to meet someone’s unreasonable demand."

Mary was baffled by David Locke’s words, complying with someone’s unreasonable demand? She looked at him blankly, "But wasn’t the project defunded?"

"Yes, but a new investor has come in, and it’s also their request to delay, you know him." David Locke shrugged after speaking.

Upon hearing this, Mary thought of someone she knew who could be that wealthy, and immediately Adam Piers’ cocky, roguish image flashed through her mind, "Could it be Adam Piers?"

"Not too dumb, it’s him." David Locke didn’t intend to hide it from Mary.

Mary was astonished, "Is Adam Piers that rich? Isn’t ’The Doctors’ a big investment? Also, why would he invest so much money only to request a statement for delayed filming?"

By normal logic, once the funds are in place, shouldn’t shooting start immediately? After all, the filming set is where money burns fastest; more days mean more expenses.

"That I don’t know; anyway, don’t try to guess Adam Piers’ thoughts." David Locke pulled Mary back to the study, not allowing her to worry about other men.

Mary didn’t care what grand plans Adam Piers had, as long as David Locke’s funding crisis was resolved, she felt relieved. However, while the issue with "The Doctors" was solved, the delay of "The Geisha" still lingered unresolved, compelling Mary to ask, "The funding is settled, but what about the release date for ’The Geisha’? I heard it’s been postponed."

"So worried about me?" Seeing Mary Scott so anxious about him, David Locke’s heart melted.

Mary was indeed worried, but hearing David’s playful tone, she paused, her face flushed slightly, and mumbled, "Who’s worried about you? And I’m asking you something serious!"

"Don’t worry, it will be resolved." David loved Mary’s stubbornness and pecked her lips.

Mary felt uneasy under his teasing gaze, "Since you can handle it, I’ll go pack. I need to head to an island in Malaysia tomorrow for the new episode shoot."

"So far away?" David asked, not very pleased.

"Yes, it’s a bit far, it takes six hours to fly." Mary shrugged helplessly.

"If you don’t want to go..."

"I want to go. ’Wilderness’ got me back in the spotlight, I can’t give up halfway just because it’s far, don’t worry, I’ll be back soon." Mary interrupted David, comforting him softly.

They had just truly made up, and were in a sweet phase. Not to mention David wouldn’t want her to leave, Mary was reluctant to leave him too.

David listened to the soft whispers of the little woman beside him, feeling a sweet warmth spread inside. But considering the troubles he’d been facing lately, keeping her by his side might not be best, "You can go, but make sure Simon Baker sends me the itinerary and the shooting plan. If something like last time happens again, I’ll make him pay."

"Cough cough, Director Baker suffered such a loss last time. How could he make that mistake again? The choice of a secluded island is for safety." Mary defended Simon.

David glanced at her, "Why are you speaking up for him?"

"I’m just stating the facts." Smelling the jealousy, Mary adjusted her attitude and responded.

David seemed a little more satisfied, "That’s more like it."

Mary looked at the man before her and couldn’t help but grin, "You’re still jealous after all this time, aren’t you tired of it?"

"Ha, you call Simon Baker old vinegar, shall we talk about Lambert Norman then? I heard he wants to give Muse to you?" David had come across this accidentally after dealing with several of Muse’s artists.

Mary never expected her casual tease to dig such a hole for her, she chuckled awkwardly, "I already turned him down."

"So it was true?" David had thought it was just gossip, not expecting it to be real.

Mary realized David was tricking her and rolled her eyes at him annoyedly, "Don’t worry, I’ve made things clear with Lambert. We won’t be contacting each other anymore. Don’t keep fixating on him, if it weren’t for him in the M Kingdom, Alfred and I might not have made it back."

Mary felt a lingering gratitude towards Lambert that outweighed everything else.

"Oh, you call him brother Lambert so affectionately." David’s tone was tinged with jealousy seeing Mary defend Lambert.

Mary, "..."

He practically spilt a whole jar of old vinegar!

Mary tiptoed and pecked David’s chin mischievously, "Don’t be angry, my dear Director Locke, no one in the world is more handsome and charming than you. You are the best in my heart."

"Ha." David hadn’t realized how skilled she was at sweet-talking, wrapping an arm around her waist, "Oh really? Prove it to me then."

Mary froze in her movements, "How do I prove it?"

"What do you think?" David countered.

Mary suddenly recalled when David leaned in to whisper and explain with actions, her cheeks burned fiercely. She tried to turn to run, but David yanked her back, her head bumping into his chest muscle, making her whimper in pain as tears welled in her eyes, glaring at him resentfully.

David, seeing her upset expression, felt an even greater urge to tease her, whispering into her ear, "It’s simple to prove, let’s finish what we started earlier, besides, I can also demonstrate myself."

Mary thought she probably got corrupted by this man, instantly understanding his intention to prove himself, her cheeks flushed as she refused, "No, your parents will come up later."

"Not my parents, our parents." David corrected, sticking close to her, feeling like he was under some spell cast by her, always wanting to be close, to hold her tighter, wishing he could embrace her twenty-four hours a day.

Mary felt warmth in her ears upon hearing this, and oddly comforted. Yes indeed, they weren’t just David’s parents, but soon they would be hers too.

Though initially, she left a bad impression on the Locke parents, spending time with them today Mary realized they might still not be fully satisfied with her, but for David, they were willing to accept her and give her a chance.

She had seen many women trapped in marriages, helpless because of in-law relationships, and Mrs. Twain exceeded her expectations.

"Hmm." Mary hummed softly in David’s ear, yet didn’t let him have his way as familiar morning footsteps sounded from outside; Mrs. Locke was approaching.

Knock knock knock...

As expected, soon the study door rang.

David sighed deeply, letting go of Mary and opening the study door, "Mom, what’s up?"

Mrs. Twain was surprised that her son spoke to her, then glanced at the embarrassed Mary beside him, understanding instantly, "Oh, I disturbed you, but..."

Pausing, Mrs. Twain deliberately glanced at her son before slowly adding, "Are you okay?"

"Pfft!" Mary couldn’t hold it in, bursting out laughing, only to be glared at by David, she covered her mouth straightening up, pretending to be invisible.

Mrs. Twain saw Mary’s timid look, waved her over, "Come, let mom take you to eat, ignore this useless man."

Mary quickly ran to stand beside Sidney Twain, calling her mom ingratiatingly.

Mrs. Twain was instantly pleased, ignoring her son, leaving just a reminder to see the doctor, then leisurely led Mary downstairs for food.

David stood in the still cold northern room, inexplicably felt the wind howling. He knew Mrs. Twain did it on purpose!

He was furious, but what could he do to his mom?
