Reborn as Mr.CEO’s Fat Wife
Chapter 983: Does the Second Young Master Know How Close You Are to Him?

Chapter 983: Chapter 983: Does the Second Young Master Know How Close You Are to Him?

David raised an eyebrow at the mention of Adam Piers, guessing his purpose. After thinking about it carefully, he said, "I’ve offended someone this time. You need to be sure, if you get involved, you might also provoke them."

"Who would make you so apprehensive?" Adam Piers frowned, although he asked, he didn’t seem to take it too seriously.

"I’m investigating, but only a few people can block my new movie and make my investors withdraw." David knew Adam wouldn’t care much about these things but felt he should warn him about the risks.

Adam immediately understood, "Have you seen me afraid of anyone? Even if I were scared, would my brother be?"

David couldn’t help teasing when he heard Adam’s words, "Does Brandon know you’re so close to him?"

"Get lost, do you still want the investment?" Adam was annoyed.

"I do, of course. As long as you don’t fear offending people, I’ll try my best to prevent you from losing your shirt." Everyone said that this Master Adam of the Piers family was a dandy without much ability, but David knew that this young master’s apparent dandyism was just a facade. Otherwise, in the Piers family, when issues arose with the other two families, he not only protected his father but also got involved in Piers’ core business.

Adam trusted David in this regard. Every movie that came from David’s hands in recent years was a big hit, although his initial intention for investing in this one wasn’t about making money. However, achieving both would naturally be the best.

Having said enough, Adam was in no mood to continue the pointless conversation with David, so after a few sentences, he hung up and called Brandon Piers.

Brandon had also heard about David’s situation but didn’t expect Adam would be interested. He lightly raised an eyebrow, "Withdrawing dividends early? Are you not awake or did you fall down the mountain and hit your head?"

Adam, "..." He should have seen this coming!

"I’m not withdrawing for free. I can calculate the early time with the maximum legal interest and deduct it from within." Adam, in front of Brandon, didn’t need to save face and shamelessly said.

He knew this wasn’t according to the rules, but he didn’t have enough funds on hand now and had already boasted. Naturally, he couldn’t let David laugh at him.

Besides, he had other plans.

Brandon listened, a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth, "Do you think the company regulations are only worth that little interest?"

"That’s not what I mean, brother. This new movie David is making is based on the story of you and Abigail. Aren’t you afraid he’ll completely change the story if you don’t invest a little money?" Since talking nicely didn’t work, Adam had to change his approach.

Brandon replied languidly, "Oh, really? He already reported it to me beforehand. It’s based on the persona of me and Abigail, but the content is recreated, which has nothing to do with me. How he films it is none of my concern."

Adam felt stuck, probably forever unable to take advantage of his cousin, and said in frustration, "Can’t it really work?"

After he spoke, he had no hope but heard Brandon slowly saying, "Not necessarily."

Adam, ready to hang up, froze, thinking he heard wrong until he asked, "Brother, are you serious?"

"Not the dividends, but I can lend you money."

Adam was delighted but quickly realized it wasn’t simple, "When did you become so kind-hearted?"

Why couldn’t he quite believe it!

"As long as you know, I’ll lend you the money, calculate it at market interest rate, and finish this movie, then you’ll come back to work." Brandon was no one to do business at a loss.

Nowadays, Teddy is growing by the day, and Abigail’s belly is getting bigger. After the previous scare, Brandon couldn’t care less about risking Abigail getting hurt in the slightest. To spend more time with his wife and child, he is preparing to slowly hand over some business to Adam.

Adam was indeed a bit dandy, but he was clear-headed and capable. By entrusting the business to him, Brandon was somewhat reassured.

It’s just that this young master had been a dandy for too long, his nature too casual, always thinking about slacking off. Without showing some color, he truly thought he could just be a normal person, delegating work.

Adam, upon hearing he had to go back to work, immediately showed a bitter face. He thought it’s quite nice to be a normal person, having no interest in managing a company. His annual dividends were enough for him to squander away his life, so why work hard?

He couldn’t help but complain, "Brother, seriously? I’m still injured, my entertainment career is just taking off, it seems I’m about to burst into stardom, you’re ruining my career!"

"Oh, really? Then don’t take the money, don’t invest in any film to support others’ popularity, and return to working at the company after you get discharged." Brandon wasn’t buying Adam’s act.

Adam was shocked after hearing, "Brother!!!"

"Don’t call so fondly, I don’t have a brother." Brandon’s tone was quite ruthless.

Adam, "..." So this big shot wants to leave?

Knowing the temperament of this monster, Adam gritted his teeth, "I agree!"

What’s the big deal about going back to work? He didn’t really plan to stay in the entertainment industry forever; he was tricked by David into becoming a fucking male supporting character.

"Oh, should’ve said that earlier. I’ll have the money sent to you soon." Brandon was satisfied.

Adam dejectedly hung up the phone, and shortly after saw a nine-figure deposit in his account, but showed no joy, rather as if he was constipated.

After adjusting for a while, Adam perked up and resumed discussing specific matters with David.

By the time they were almost done, it was already afternoon.

Online discussions about David’s movie being blocked and the new project withdrawal were becoming increasingly lively, gradually sneaking onto the tail end of trending topics, inching closer to those odd hot trends surrounding Mary Scott.

And David, along with his team, didn’t have anyone come out to clarify, but Mary had spent the morning shopping with Mrs. Locke. On the way back, she heard about David’s situation and promptly called him.

David quietly comforted Mary for a while. She was slightly relieved knowing a new investor had been found.

Sidney Twain saw Mary’s genuinely worried response upon learning her son was in trouble and asked in a faux-casual manner, "Did Dobbin say you two are planning to have a baby?"

Even though Sidney Twain felt it was unlikely her son would lie about something like this, she wanted to play it safe by asking Mary Scott about her attitude towards having children.

As a modern woman, Sidney Twain didn’t believe that women must have children, but if Mary Scott was using this method to deceive her son, she would not be polite about it.

Mary Scott was still worried about David Locke’s movie, but upon suddenly hearing Mrs. Twain’s words, she paused for a second, then nodded. Ever since David mentioned wanting kids, she had been taking folic acid. They hadn’t used protection during their last few times of having sex either.

Seeing Mary hesitate before nodding, Mrs. Twain furrowed her brows slightly; her tone seemed casual but was actually sharp, "Do you know what it means for you, as a celebrity, to get pregnant and have children? Didn’t you say you want to act and prove yourself?"

"I know, but isn’t there no conflict? I mean, wanting to prove myself doesn’t mean I have to refuse childbirth. Besides, I’m not some big-shot actress who must play the leading roles or a young girl. I personally believe having a child could make my life more complete. I want to have a child with him and I’m longing to become a mother. Not every actress refuses to have children; I really want to have a family and a child of my own." Mary understood Mrs. Locke’s probing and concerns, and her tone was gentle yet firm.

If David’s attitude had made Sidney and Mr. Locke accept this not-so-impressive daughter-in-law because of their son’s insistence, right now, Sidney was recognizing Mary for who she was, not because of her son.

Although the girl was not very old, she was sharp and perceptive. Thinking about her performance at the press conference yesterday and the investigation results she conducted, Sidney sighed lightly, realizing her son could be a bit straightforward sometimes, but the girl he liked was truly nice.

"Okay, your uncle and I aren’t that old. We can babysit for you when you have a child." Mrs. Twain said this with anticipation.

She had been a rebellious soul when she was young and never thought she’d become a normal old lady eager to babysit her son’s child as she aged. She laughed at herself after finishing her sentence.

Mary wasn’t foolish, she understood Sidney Twain’s attitude had shown acceptance, making her feel warm inside. It wasn’t just because of Mrs. Locke’s acceptance, but she was also moved by their efforts when they didn’t approve of her because of David’s attitude.

From age seventeen, when she went abroad, her father was executed, and her mother fled with money, the word "family" had become rather distant in her world. Yet, the way the Lockes and David interacted in the past days made her seem to glimpse love and acceptance from parents in normal families.

Although she didn’t know when she might conceive, Mary nodded obediently, "Okay, thank you, Auntie."

"Why call me Auntie? You took the hush money and still call me Auntie?" Mrs. Twain completely forgot she referred to herself as your uncle earlier when saying this.

Mary had come to care for the family; though Mrs. Locke hadn’t been very polite to her yesterday, today, she didn’t hesitate to choose gifts for her or give her a red packet. After hearing Sidney Twain’s words, she comfortably called her Mom.

Mrs. Twain had never given birth to a daughter in her lifetime but always dreamed of having one. When Mary softly called her Mom, she instantly felt a long-standing regret had been filled; previous grievances disappeared and she began discussing pregnancy preparation with Mary.

While speaking, Mrs. Twain’s vivid imagination suddenly thought of her son’s leg injury, tapping her forehead lightly, "I almost forgot, that kid hurt his leg, but didn’t hurt there, right? Though the Locke family doesn’t have a throne to inherit, not having a son or daughter is still ungrateful."

Mary couldn’t believe how Mrs. Locke was when she gets familiar like this, she didn’t know how to respond; if she said she didn’t know, she would appear uncaring about her husband, but if she said he’s fine, Mrs. Locke might ask if she had tried it. What should she do?

Stunned by this question, Mary sat in the car, her beautiful face flustered and pink; she just hoped Mrs. Locke wouldn’t be too serious.

But seeing Mary’s embarrassed look, Mrs. Twain’s mind buzzed, "It’s really hurt, isn’t it?"

Mary’s mouth slightly opened, wanting to say that’s not the case, but just then the car arrived at the villa entrance, and the driver turned to remind them they arrived, interrupting Mary’s words.

Mrs. Twain was still shocked, hardly noticing Mary’s actions, carrying her morning’s loot as the driver opened the door and headed into the villa.

Mary quickened her pace to catch up to explain, but although Sidney Twain was over fifty, she was in good health, carrying bags with agile steps into the villa.

David finished his work and was leisurely coming downstairs right when his mother entered and didn’t see Mary, frowning slightly, "Mom, where’s Mary?"

Would she have bullied his wife?

"Hold on to asking about your wife, let me ask you—are you really incapable? Haven’t you gone to the men’s clinic? Is it because of that harsh fall before, or is there another reason? Don’t feel ashamed; this is serious, you need to face your problem." Mrs. Twain confronted David with questions.

The question left David stunned on the stairs, staring at his mother, not understanding where she heard all these absurd things about him being incapable.

"What? Dobbin is incapable?" Hearing the commotion while coming out of the room, Mr. Locke asked in surprise, after which he looked at his son with deep sympathy.

David felt his scalp tingling from his dad’s expression, finally snapping back to reality, "Mom, what nonsense are you saying?"

"Me, nonsense? Mary admitted..."

"I didn’t!" Mary, who hurriedly followed them, heard their conversation outside, shouted loudly as Mrs. Locke mentioned her name to prove David was incapable.

Mrs. Twain turned back to the breathless Mary, waving her hand, "Your reaction in the car just now explained everything; don’t cover for him. In modern society, this isn’t particularly shameful; with proper care, it’ll get better. Son, don’t lose heart!"

Saying the last line, Mrs. Twain intentionally turned to David, cheering and encouraging him.

David almost grasped what’s going on, feeling his brow jumping, he glared at Mary before turning to face his mother, "Mom, what are you thinking all day? I’m very well!"

Seeing her son flustered with anger, Mrs. Twain felt even more convinced she guessed right; now she looked at David with sympathy and Mary with pity. As a modern woman, Mrs. Twain always valued sex life.

David saw his mother like this, pressed his brow, speaking coldly, "Moll Scott, come upstairs."

Mary’s body trembled; she’s been with David long enough to know this was a sign of his anger, her feet seemed glued to the floor, unmoving, but her stillness made David’s demeanour even more severe.

Helplessly, Mary thought this was somewhat because of her, finally gritting her teeth, resigning herself to go upstairs, but Mrs. Twain restrained her, "Why are you scared of him? This isn’t your fault, men..."

"Mom! It’s not like that..." Seeing Mrs. Locke about to sprechen of David’s incapability, Mary hastily interrupted her, but the words came to her lips, seeing David’s darkening face, she shivered, pushing Mrs. Locke aside, "I have to talk with Dobbin, A... Mom, you and uncle please carry on."

Finishing her words, Mary dashed towards David, grasping David’s hand as he returned to the second floor, "Honey, let me explain..."

"Explain what? I’m incapable?" David interrupted with an icy query.

Mary shivered, "I didn’t, honey, please listen to my explanation!"

"Alright, how about explaining while we do it?" David’s words sounded like a question, but he was in no way seeking Mary’s consent.

Mary, "..." She’s finished!
