Chapter 1005: The Stunning Woman Who Broke into the Script Meeting

Chapter 1005: Chapter 1005: The Stunning Woman Who Broke into the Script Meeting

Zoe Thatcher had thought of many scenarios for her next meeting with Bertha Swift, but never imagined the other would show up at the script reading session.

And she certainly didn’t expect Bertha to be cast as the female lead in "The Doctors."

A female lead who was neither a drama school graduate nor had any acting experience.

Although she’s heard before that Director Locke chooses cast members based on instinct, unlike other directors who depend on actors or their popularity, only Director Locke’s works make actors successful.

Compared to the male and female leads, Director Locke himself guarantees quality and box-office success.

This is why many within the industry are desperate to join David Locke’s team.

But even so, casting a non-professional and inexperienced woman as the female lead seemed somewhat frivolous, didn’t it?

No matter how much she tried to restrain herself, Zoe had to admit she was jealous.

This woman not only had Adam Piers’ affection but also, without any difficulty or reason, became Director Locke’s female lead, while even Mary Scott was only the second female lead.

And the male lead paired with her was none other than the currently very popular Brian Joule.

Zoe couldn’t help but wonder just who Bertha Swift really was!

But thinking of someone who could marry into Adam Piers’ family, her background must not be poor either.

With this thought, Zoe’s eyes dimmed.

David Locke, sitting at the head seat, didn’t notice the emotions of others. After Zoe entered and he glanced at the time, he waved his hand, "Let’s begin."

Martin Jonah passed out scripts to everyone, and then the assistant director and the production manager began the narration and scene parts.

The others continued according to their order of appearance.

As the male and female leads, Bertha Swift and Brian Joule had the most lines.

Those absent, like the second male lead, were replaced by other staff members.

Soon it was Bertha Swift’s turn. She hadn’t formally studied acting or received training in line delivery at school, but being the Swift family’s young lady, acting sometimes came naturally to her. As for Mandarin, she had been personally coached by a top domestic broadcaster, and before the shooting started, she worked hard to brush up on acting and lines, so she wasn’t overly nervous when she began speaking.

Moreover, once she started, she unexpectedly attracted quite a bit of attention from those present.

Many people at the scene, like Zoe, thought Bertha Swift wasn’t formally trained and had no acting experience—likely someone brought in by wealth or capital. Yet, once she spoke, she wasn’t as poor as everyone had speculated; her pronunciation was clear and precise and was actually better than many so-called professional actors within the industry.

Director Locke gave Bertha Swift a fleeting glance, sighing inwardly that while Adam Piers might lack in other areas, his eye for talent was indeed exceptional.

Mary Scott, sitting beside Bertha Swift, was also secretly surprised but quickly immersed herself in her own role. Only Zoe seemed a bit caught off guard; she had mentally prepared for Bertha Swift to embarrass herself but hadn’t expected her to hold her own in terms of line delivery.

This unexpected turn left Zoe momentarily stunned, and she involuntarily clenched her palms, silently competing with Bertha Swift in her mind.

Stella Murray, sitting next to Zoe, sensed something was amiss and asked with concern, "What’s wrong, little Zoe? Are you feeling unwell somewhere?"

Zoe snapped back to reality and quickly shook her head, "No."

"Alright, it’s almost your turn," Stella didn’t press further seeing Zoe’s response, but urged her softly.

Following, Brian Joule, Mary Scott, and Zoe successively read their lines. They weren’t bad, but compared to James Jerome, Stella Murray, and other old troupers, they still had a lot to improve on.

After a part ended, David Locke asked everyone to voice any doubts and issues they found during the script reading and analyze them together.

Sidney Twain then made some minor revisions and improvements to the script based on everyone’s performance and individual characteristics.

Due to the appearance of Nighteve, everyone had increased confidence in this project, and the atmosphere on set was lively. Just as they were in the middle of a discussion, suddenly someone knocked on the door.

David Locke, impatient with the interruption, glanced at the staff and creators present, frowning—who would come at this time?

A face of Adam Piers, the dandy nobleman, flashed in his mind as he signaled Martin Jonah with his eyes.

Martin Jonah understood and stood up to take a look, already prepared for the arrival of the young master. Instead, when he opened the door, he was met with a stunning woman with heavy makeup and a V-neck top. His mouth slightly agape, "Who are you?"

"Assistant Jonah, I’m here for your Director Locke." The woman coquettishly eyed Martin Jonah, asking languidly with a hint of ambiguity.

Martin Jonah wasn’t encountering this scenario for the first time. Usually, he would smoothly invite the person in or take them to a different room to let Director Locke talk to them.

But today was different; Director Locke was married, and his wife was inside. If he invited her in, he estimated that the same day next year would be his death anniversary.

Adjusting his demeanor, Martin Jonah put on a very professional smile, "Sorry, Director Locke is busy."

"Who are you kidding? I know Director Locke’s rules." The enchanting woman said, nudging Martin Jonah with her well-endowed figure.

Instantly, Martin Jonah blushed and hurriedly held up both hands, taking a small step back, saying with lingering fear, "Talk properly, don’t get handsy!"

"What if I want to?" The woman showed no signs of restraining her actions, and upon seeing Martin Jonah’s flushed cheeks, acted even more boldly.

The others were inside discussing the plot and hadn’t paid much attention to what was happening outside, but the commotion inevitably drew attention as time passed, especially when David Locke, impatient, asked, "What’s going on?"

Martin Jonah didn’t dare answer, "N-nothing."

"Director Locke!" But just as Martin Jonah finished speaking, the woman beside him suddenly shouted Director Locke’s name, and taking advantage of Martin Jonah’s momentary panic, she used her ample assets to push him aside, boldly stepping into the room, fully revealing herself to everyone.

Others in the room, upon hearing the woman coquettishly calling out to Director Locke, turned their attention to the door of the compartment.

Especially Mary Scott furrowed her brows, looking at the gaudy woman who carried a trace of vulgarity, with an alarm bell ringing in her heart—could this be one of David Locke’s old flings?

Mary Scott had heard about David Locke’s reputation after returning to the country, knowing that he often used certain utility man roles within his projects, and those roles were without exception women he’d involved himself with.

This had become an open secret within the circle.

It was why she was initially reluctant to actively approach David Locke, thinking that much had changed, nostalgia was okay, but entangling would be low. However, through a twist of fate, she directly encountered him in "The Geisha" team.

Back then, she was somewhat reluctant towards David Locke, mainly due to his messy rumors.

But later, many things happened between them, from arguments, rupture, to reconciliation, and now both had opened their hearts, causing Mary Scott to almost forget about David Locke’s black history.

But she almost forgot, others were not planning to let her forget.

Watching the gorgeous, sexy woman walk in, Mary Scott’s eyelids wouldn’t stop twitching.

Obviously, Mary Scott wasn’t the only one with such thoughts; many others had gossip written all over their faces.

As for David Locke, upon hearing the woman’s voice, he instinctively looked at Mary Scott, noticing her face didn’t seem well, and hurriedly signaled Martin Jonah at the door.

Martin Jonah, understanding Director Locke’s feelings, rushed forward, "Miss, we are having a script reading meeting, please get out."

The politeness from the start was gone from his words.

Yet the woman pretended not to hear, her gaze fixed on David Locke, "Director Locke, didn’t you promise me something last time? I’ve been waiting for your call for ages; back then, all the sisters gradually got your roles, you can’t leave just me out."

Oh!

Once she spoke, everyone on site perked up their ears.

What a shocking scandal!

What does she mean by "all the sisters"? What does she mean by "gradually got your roles"? Is this too much information to take in!

Everyone is in the entertainment industry, and it’s not unknown that things are messy, but these issues typically aren’t exposed openly. Now, this woman speaks out with such explosive news; she’s not here for resources but likely here to stir trouble!

Mary Scott’s face began to turn pale. She had heard about David Locke’s messy private life but never expected it to be this chaotic!

To be involved with several women...

Mary Scott took a deep breath, striving to remain calm, yet the uncontrollable rise and fall in her chest betrayed her true emotions.

David Locke sat in the lead seat, continuously observing Mary Scott’s direction, naturally seeing through her emotions. His expression turned grim, gazing at the standing, beautiful woman, "Speak clearly, what do you mean by ’all the sisters’? Are they part of a major group?"

"Oh, isn’t it the same?" The woman seemed entirely unshaken by David Locke’s aura, ambiguously responding, then eagerly asked, "I heard Director Locke is conducting a script reading today. Is it for a new project that’s set to start filming? Is there a role suitable for me? I can play any role; this is what Director Locke promised."

Seeing the woman speak another word, Mary Scott’s face paled further; his usual irritable temper flared, and he loudly shouted for her to get out.

At that moment, Martin Jonah called for the security guards to forcibly drag the woman out, cover her mouth, and escort her out of the private restaurant.

Even though Martin Jonah left with people, the script reading atmosphere had vanished long ago. Everyone couldn’t help but glance at David Locke and sympathetically look at Mary Scott.

Under such circumstances, the following script reading became stammered and riddled with errors, especially with Mary Scott making several mistakes.

Ultimately, David Locke had no choice but to adjourn the meeting early.

Mary Scott followed everyone outside, only to be grabbed by David Locke at the door, "Mary, wait for me a moment."

Being held by the hand, Mary Scott felt a severe discomfort surge through her, almost instinctively shaking off David Locke’s hand.

David Locke was first startled, then his expression turned even uglier, "Mary."

"I have a plot discussion with Miss Swift, you all go back first." Mary Scott pretended not to see David Locke’s expression, speaking indifferently.

Next to her, Bertha Swift was initially stunned upon hearing Mary Scott’s words, then didn’t say much, merely cooperated by waiting on one side.

David Locke didn’t expect Mary Scott to say that, but seeing her expression, he knew forcing her would make things worse, glancing sideways at Bertha Swift, he restrained the impulse to forcibly take Mary Scott away, "Mary, I’ll leave it to Miss Swift later."

Bertha Swift, being inexplicably drawn into the matter and entrusted by David Locke with a heavy task, was not quite used to it, but today she had a good impression of Mary Scott, and seeing her in this situation wasn’t good for her to refuse, so she nodded.

Mary Scott gratefully glanced at Bertha Swift before pulling her along and heading outside, feeling distressed looking at David Locke any longer.

David Locke sensed the resistance from Mary Scott from inside out, watching his beloved woman’s departing back helplessly, when a mocking and reproachful voice sounded behind him, "Don’t say Mary Scott hates you, even I feel dirty listening."

Scolded as filthy by his own mother, David Locke replied gloomily, "I just played cards; did I do anything?"

Sidney Twain looked at her son as if he were an idiot, moreover thinking this idiot took others as idiots too, directly retorted David Locke, "I’m going home myself; when I return, I’ll move away with your dad, now I feel staying in the same space as you is contaminating."

David Locke, "..."

Is this his own mother? It’s fine if Mary Scott doesn’t believe him, but his own mother doesn’t either!

Yet Mrs. Twain completely disregarded David Locke’s thoughts, turning around and leaving.

Soon, just David Locke and the assistant director tidying up were left in the script meeting, David Locke turned to his frequent collaborator, "You believe me, right?"

The assistant director shivered hearing David Locke’s words, hurriedly packed the last few things, quickly heading outside. Upon meeting David Locke’s resentful gaze, his steps paused, then he revealed his friendship by patting David Locke’s shoulder, "Director Locke, take care of yourself, got it?"

Without waiting for David Locke to respond, he ran away.

Leaving only David Locke in the entire room.

David Locke took a deep breath, pulled out his phone and called Martin Jonah.

On the other side, the phone was quickly answered, David Locke spoke in a calm tone, "Did you find out anything?"

"Sorry, Director Locke, as soon as we left the restaurant, a group of reporters surrounded us, and the woman took the opportunity to escape; I am now certain someone intentionally sent her to mess with you," Martin Jonah was panting from dealing with reporters.

David Locke wasn’t surprised at all; when the woman stood in front of him, intentionally saying words to mislead, he knew the matter wasn’t simple.

"I understand, find a way to contact her and see what her goal is." Although saying this, David Locke had somewhat guessed the person behind her, he further added, "Keep an eye on tonight’s news."

This morning’s love story news between him and Mary Scott was all over the sky, only for his supposed ’romantic’ past to explode that night, sure to garner significant public attention. If the antagonist seizes this opportunity to fabricate some solid evidence, even if he were to jump into the Pacific Ocean, he couldn’t cleanse himself.

Especially since Mary Scott had just gained widespread sympathy and attention from netizens due to her heritage issue, now if he were to explode with a bombshell, netizens would likely sympathize more with Mary Scott, even developing strong resistance against him.

The problem with "The Geisha" still hasn’t been solved; the news will inevitably trigger audience backlash and consequently impact "The Doctors"’ progress.

Thinking of this, David Locke pressed his brow and further instructed, "Find the hotel’s video from that night and be ready for public relations."

After giving instructions, David Locke began to worry about the most headache-inducing issue: how to explain to Mary Scott so she would believe him?
