Chapter 530: Chapter 532 The Coronation Ceremony of the Crown Prince

The autumn morning sun carried a hint of coolness as Shao He sat on a stone bench, holding a freshly brewed cup of hot tea in her hands.

When Pei Huaian arrived, he saw the poured tea and sat down.

"Congratulations, Your Highness the Crown Prince," Shao He said with a smile, lifting her teacup.

She had completely forgotten the words she had said the day before, as if nothing had happened between the two of them — everything was as usual.

"You’re not angry anymore?" Pei Huaian ventured to ask.

After all, she had requested to annul the engagement the day before and left despite his pleas — otherwise, he wouldn’t have come over early in the morning.

He didn’t want there to be a rift between them; if there were any misunderstandings, it would be better to explain things clearly.

"Angry? Angry about what?" Shao He seemed to not understand what he was talking about at all.

Pei Huaian did not beat around the bush, saying directly, "About Ah Lan’s matter, I think it’s necessary to explain it clearly to you."

"It was just an act to cooperate with her, what’s there to explain?" Shao He saw the anxious man and became even more puzzled about what he was worried about.

This time, Pei Huaian was taken aback. He recovered and asked, "Did you know all along?"

"What else? You think I really didn’t trust you, that I misunderstood you had something to do with someone else?"

At first, Shao He did have a slight doubt and waver, but after calming down, she realized things were not as she had thought. Through various details, she came to know that everything was just an act.

Originally, she was not certain until Ah Lan ran after her, deliberately holding the jade pendant and claiming it was the token of their affection; only then was Shao He sure that everything Pei Huaian did was performed for others to see.

Ah Lan’s appearance was no coincidence; someone had deliberately arranged it to stir up trouble between them.

Therefore, she could only play along with Pei Huaian, the only thing she didn’t anticipate was his sudden illness that nearly revealed their ruse.

Fortunately, she was quick-witted and escaped.

Pei Huaian showed a relieved smile, taking her hand and saying, "Thank you, thank you for choosing to trust me."

Shao He gently patted the back of his hand, saying, "How could I misunderstand you over another woman, when I know the love you have for me?"

"It’s my fault for making you suffer," Pei Huaian said, grasping her arm and pulling her into his embrace, sitting her down on his lap.

"Alright, today is the grand enthronement ceremony. You should hurry back to prepare," Shao He urged, pushing Pei Huaian away with her hands.

But Pei Huaian caught her hand and kissed it.

"You..." Shao He glared at him, "This is outside, it’s not good to be seen like this."

"No matter!" Pei Huaian said looking up at her with deep affection, "As long as you are willing, who dares to gossip?"

"Go on, leave now, lest you miss the auspicious time," Shao He pushed, trying to get up from his hold.

Pei Huaian held on to her, whispering in her ear, "I’ve prepared your gown for entering the palace. Make sure to wear it; I’ll be waiting for your toast."

Shao He’s eyebrows raised, "Is there going to be a good show tonight?"

"Of course, I won’t disappoint you," Pei Huaian said, getting up and straightening his brocade robe with a mysterious smile as he left.

The Crown Prince’s enthronement ceremony was extremely grand, with the Emperor and all the officials from the Imperial Court in attendance.

Standing on a high platform, the Emperor watched as Pei Huaian, dressed in royal heir attire, approached step by step, feeling greatly comforted in his heart.

The Emperor’s face was full of smiles, his eyes narrowed and the corners of his mouth raised, showing his happiness.

Pei Jingyi and Xia Zhaoshun, standing to the side, had gloomy expressions, looking as if they were filled with bitter hatred.

The Third Prince, Pei Haolan, watched with a grin, while Pei Siyang was even more content.

The Emperor surveyed the crowd with a deep and resounding voice, "The enthronement ceremony begins!"

Upon hearing this, Eunuch Li took out the Imperial Decree to read, "Under Heaven, following the Mandate of Heaven, the Emperor decrees: Hearing of the Crown Prince’s benevolence and filial piety, impeccable conduct and character, serving as the pillar of the state, from this day forward, he is enthroned as the Crown Prince of the Eastern Palace. Let it be known."

As the words ended, the ceremonial officer stamped the Crown Prince’s imperial seal on the golden jade case, and a majestic dragon’s aura spread around, making it difficult for one to look directly at it.

"Long live my Emperor, long live, long life and prosperity!"

The courtiers shouted in praise, creating an exceptionally lively scene.

"Rise."

The Emperor said to Pei Huaian in a meaningful tone, "I am getting old, and I hope that under your hands this kingdom will become even stronger..."

Pei Huaian knelt respectfully on the ground towards the Emperor, his tone firm, saying, "Rest assured, Father Emperor! Your son will devote every effort, even unto death."

The Emperor nodded slightly, "Good!"

After Pei Huaian rose, everyone began to salute him.

"We pay homage to Your Highness the Crown Prince!"

Pei Huaian looked down at the crowd, his dark eyes flashing coldly.

"Rise."

With a wave of Pei Huaian’s hand, the courtiers rose to their feet.

Following the conclusion of the Crown Prince’s enthronement ceremony, there was an evening banquet. People mingled, clinking glasses and toasting, creating a boisterous scene.

As the newly appointed Crown Prince, Pei Huaian was naturally the center of attention, and the guests poured him several pots of wine. His gaze kept searching the crowd, but he didn’t see the one he was looking for.

Though usually unaffected by liquor, he couldn’t resist the cunning of these old foxes, who had forced him to drink several pots, leaving his face flushed and his head heavy.

He endured the discomfort, staying alert.

Taking advantage of a moment to himself, he went to the garden for some fresh air and unexpectedly encountered Ah Lan.

"Congratulations, Your Highness the Crown Prince," Ah Lan called out gently.

"Hmm," Pei Huaian responded indifferently, then turned around and walked away.
