"Don’t you dare try any tricks," the Man in Black Robe threatened.

Shao He lay sprawled lazily on the ground and, upon hearing this, retorted with sarcasm, "I’m already like a fish on the cutting board, at the mercy of others. What can I possibly do?"

The Man in Black Robe snorted coldly and ignored her.

Time passed slowly, and night fell, with the moon hanging high in the sky.

Shao He returned to her room and felt increasingly weak. She couldn’t help but lay her head on the desk and fall asleep. In a daze, she heard a rustling sound by her ear.

She abruptly opened her eyes and was about to look around when she suddenly felt a chill at her neck, as if something cold and sharp was pressing against her throat.

Shao He stiffened instantly. She held her breath, not daring to move, for fear that the dagger would slice her throat.

In the darkness, Shao He could vaguely make out the eyes of the masked man in black.

She didn’t know who he was or why he kidnapped her, but her current situation made her somewhat afraid.

"I’m warning you, don’t move, or I guarantee your death won’t be pretty," the man in black whispered threateningly.

He held the hilt of the knife in his hand and pushed it forward slightly, cutting Shao He’s skin and filling the air with the scent of blood.

"I didn’t move!" Shao He exclaimed while quickly shaking her hands, "Put the knife down first!"

She could feel the blood from her neck continuously flowing down, soaking her collar and sticking uncomfortably to her skin.

The man in black sneered, clearly not believing her lies, and moved the dagger even further forward.

"I really didn’t move, just calm down," Shao He said hastily.

The man in black didn’t say anything, but he gradually retracted the dagger a little.

Shao He quietly breathed a sigh of relief and continued, "Are you the Clan Leader?"

The man in black paused for a moment and said gravely, "Have you seen the Clan Leader?"

Shao He looked into his eyes and affirmed, "There’s no use denying it. Your body still carries the scent of the medicine pill I fed you; I could never mistake you for someone else."

The man in black was silent for a while, seemingly pondering something, and finally, he slowly put down the dagger.

"Why did you save me?" The man removed the black cloth from his face, revealing his handsome cheek.

But at the moment, his face was pale, his expression dark and gloomy, and a few strands of malice could be detected.

Shao He sized him up. The man was very good-looking, with brows that carried a ruthless air, especially those narrow phoenix eyes that discouraged others from prying.

"We have a common enemy," she explained indifferently.

After listening, the man’s gaze became unfathomable. It took a long time for him to regain his composure.

"Enemy? He is a Witch tribe elder; how can he possibly be my enemy?" The man said with a chilling tone.

Shao He glanced at him and said lightly, "I guess you’re seriously injured right now and your inner energy is unstable."

He looked at Shao He disdainfully, "Speak, what do you want to do?"

Shao He didn’t move, just staring at the man. Soon, he began to cough violently, clutching at his heart and seeing the fresh blood on his hands, knew he could lose his life at any moment.

Shao He took out a medicine pill from her bosom and offered it, "It can temporarily save your life, suppressing the Gu Poison inside you."

The man looked at her deeply and, in the end, decided to trust her once, taking the medicine pill and throwing it into his mouth, tilting his head back. The pain beneath his chest quickly disappeared.

"Can we sit down and have a proper talk now?" Shao He asked.

The man nodded and sat down.

Shao He recounted to him in detail her dealings with the Man in Black Robe.

After speaking, she added, "If it hadn’t been for the guard’s notification that day, we would still have been kept in the dark, and you almost lost your life because of it."

Upon hearing this, the corner of the man’s mouth revealed a sinister curve.

He looked up, his gaze intense as he stared at Shao He, "Why should I believe you?"

Shao He shrugged, indicating helplessness, "Whether to believe is up to you, but if you don’t believe even this, then there’s no need for us to continue talking."

The man in black frowned, caught in a dilemma. After a while, he suddenly said, "What if you are deceiving me?"

"Why would I deceive you?" Shao He countered, "I’m risking my life to negotiate with you right now, and I’ve also had a Gu insect planted inside of me by the Man in Black Robe."

She paused, then continued, "Although you’re really weak at the moment, the fact that I saved you is indisputable. Besides, I need your help to leave this place, so in any case, I shouldn’t be lying."

The man in black thought about it and found it reasonable.

"Fine, I’ll believe you for now," he agreed.

He paused then continued, "You mentioned earlier that you had a Gu insect inside of you?"

"Yes." Shao He rolled up her sleeve, and it seemed that the position of the Gu insect had shifted.

"It’s the Conjoined Gu, a taboo insect that only he would be daring enough to raise. I should never have been soft-hearted enough to spare him," the Clan Leader said angrily, slamming his hand on the table.

Shao He asked with curiosity, "A taboo insect?"

The man sneered, "That’s right. This insect is very difficult to control and can easily backfire if one is not careful."

"Then why did you fall unconscious?" Shao He continued to ask.

"Back then, he attacked me while I was ill, framed and slandered me, and then moved me to a cave, under the pretense of giving me a good rest. In fact, he was afraid I would wake up,"

Shao He listened attentively as the Clan Leader began to recount the past with the Man in Black Robe.
