Chapter 489: Chapter 491: War is Imminent

Ah Er spoke with immense calmness, "What’s there to panic about? If soldiers come, so what? Once they enter this village, I’ll make sure they never leave!"

Hearing him say that, the village chief became agitated, grabbed Ah Er’s arm, and pleaded, "Don’t be reckless. If something happens to so many soldiers in the village, do you know what the consequences will be?"

"The Emperor will definitely send troops to annihilate us; there won’t be a single survivor in Nameless Village!" the village chief said with a heart filled with pain.

The sins they committed should not have to be paid for by those children. If they continue on this wrong path now, I fear there will be no turning back.

Ah Er shook off his hand, grabbed the village chief by the neck, and threatened, "If you dare to back down, I will take your life first."

After throwing the village chief aside and breathing in some fresh air, the village chief immediately clutched his neck and coughed desperately. Meanwhile, the villagers, seeing death, dared not make a sound; only after Ah Er left did they come forward to support the village chief.

"What do we do now?"

"We’ll have to play it by ear." The village chief’s heart had actually begun to waver; he felt they could not continue this way.

All the evil consequences were brewed by them; having killed so many people, he already felt guilty. If he had to sacrifice so many innocent people just to preserve Nameless Village, he would not rest easy in his conscience.

"Let’s go."

By this time, the outskirts of the village had already been tightly surrounded, with all the soldiers holding their weapons ready for battle.

Ah Er evidently had not considered running away; instead, he stood at the highest point and watched with composed ease.

The youths in the village each picked up weapons and faced the group of soldiers without any hint of retreat.

Seeing this, the deputy commander couldn’t help but remark, "Are these people fools?"

"To dare confront us like this?"

"Are they insane, not afraid of being killed!"

"They must be mad!"

"They have no idea what they are facing!"

Hearing these mocking remarks, the villagers were all panic-stricken, with some even cursing the soldiers.

The village chief’s attempts to persuade them were utterly ineffective. The villagers clearly understood the pros and cons of the situation and ultimately decided to agree with Ah Er’s plan to confront the soldiers.

At this moment, Ah Er, leading a dozen young adults holding weapons, stood on a high slope, his gaze coldly watching below, a cruel smile hooking at the corners of his mouth.

Soon, a large number of soldiers rushed into the village, led by Pei Huaian, followed by Pei Hanze.

Pei Hanze and Pei Huaian’s expressions were grim; they were determined to conquer Nameless Village this time.

Then, smoke canisters were thrown over, causing the horses to neigh in distress; Pei Huaian had the crowd retreat first.

When the smoke cleared, the villagers had vanished. Pei Huaian led his team in, each of them being extremely cautious.

They had not walked far into the village when a heavy scent of blood met their noses.

Pei Huaian and Pei Hanze frowned, quickly speeding toward the depths of the village, the smell of blood growing stronger the closer they got.

When he arrived outside a courtyard, the stench of blood was so strong that it could make one vomit.

He violently kicked open the door and upon seeing the situation inside, his pupils suddenly constricted, his body radiating an icy, bone-chilling aura.

The originally dim room was dyed red with blood, bodies everywhere, while many children were curled up in the corners, trembling, their eyes filled with fear as if they had encountered something horrifying.

"These people truly deserve to die!" Pei Huaian exclaimed in a low voice, radiating an intense killing aura that was terrifying, further frightening the children, causing them to start crying.

"These aren’t villagers at all; they are demons," the soldiers behind him could not help but say.

They had never seen such a cruel scene, even on a battlefield where at most a quick death by the sword occurred.

But the states of these deaths were particularly tragic; each person was covered in countless stab wounds, with some even having their tendons in their hands and legs severed, and others had their eyes gouged out.

The most cruel aspect was that these innocent children had stayed among the corpses for so long.

Pei Huaian shouted loudly, "Don’t be afraid, we won’t hurt you."

As soon as his voice fell, a "clatter" was heard as a jar fell from the rooftop to the ground, its contents spilling out.

Then, one after another, jars began to be thrown into the courtyard; Pei Huaian and Pei Hanze realized that these were no ordinary jars but jars filled with oil. They quickly figured that they were likely going to set them on fire to kill them.

When they reached the courtyard’s gates, however, they found the doors were firmly sealed, impossible to open.

And around them were people armed with bows and arrows, the tips of their arrows all pointing at them.

"Hahaha..." A burst of arrogant laughter abruptly erupted.

Then Ah Er slowly appeared in their line of sight.

"I didn’t expect you to find this place. Since that’s the case, then you all will stay today to be buried here!" Ah Er said coldly.

"Do you think this ragtag bunch of yours can trap us?" Pei Huaian asked sharply.

"Hehe..." Ah Er gave a cold laugh.

Immediately after, the arrows were ignited and shot into the courtyard with flames.

The village chief, seeing this scene, desperately shouted, "No, there are children inside, don’t do it!"

Unfortunately, no one paid heed to his words; everyone in the village was blinded by selfishness, only caring about their own survival, no longer considering the children.
