Chapter 475 - 477 Departure

Chapter 475: Chapter 477 Departure

Zhao Yuebei, seeing the reluctance of the people around, asked, "Doctor Yun, this journey is extremely dangerous, are you really at ease letting her go like this?"

"Otherwise? You know Shao He’s temperament just as well as I do, who can persuade her?"

Yun Qian, precisely because he understood her personality, refrained from uttering words of retention.

Zhao Yuebei couldn’t help but ask, "Doctor Yun, are you...?"

"Yes, but what of it?" Yun Qian knew what he wanted to ask, so he interrupted him promptly before he could finish speaking.

Zhao Yuebei’s eyes showed a look of astonishment, and then he sighed to himself, "That’s true, a bright woman like Doctor Shao would be hard for anyone not to like."

Qingxia and Qing Shan, upon learning that Shao He was heading to Jingzhou, insisted on following along. No matter how she tried to persuade or intimidate them, the two refused to stay behind.

"Do you understand the dangers of this journey? The plague is rampant in Jingzhou right now, and you might never return."

Qing Shan and Qingxia nodded simultaneously, looking at her with determination to express their stance.

Shao He sighed and could only agree.

Before they departed, Shao He gave Qing Shan and Qingxia two small porcelain bottles, instructing them, "These contain Detoxification Pills. Take them at once if you become infected with the disease!"

"Miss, don’t worry, we will not hold you back," Qing Shan and Qingxia solemnly promised.

Shao He nodded, then turned and boarded the carriage.

The carriage was driven by a Hidden Guard sent by The Emperor. It left the Capital City unobstructed, speeding along the official road and throwing up dust.

Suddenly, the sound of horseshoes came from outside. She lifted the carriage’s curtain to look and saw, to her surprise, it was Pei Hanze.

"Stop the carriage."

The carriage halted, and Shao He raised an eyebrow, calling out indifferently, "Prince, what is this...?"

Pei Hanze, mounted on his horse and looking down at her, said, "To support Jingzhou."

"The Prince is going to Jingzhou? Why?"

Pei Hanze slowly parted his lips, "For the people of Jingzhou. As a prince of the nation, there’s no reason for me to sit by and watch a woman go to her death while I remain indifferent."

Shao He was taken aback for a moment, then raised her eyes to meet his.

"Prince, there might be some impropriety in this," she refused with a smile.

"Why so?" he frowned.

"With the current epidemic, if the Prince were to leave the Capital rashly, I fear it would not bode well for you."

"I am simply following orders," he replied.

Shao He furrowed her brow, "Prince, this venture is absolutely not advisable. If the Emperor were to find out, I fear..."

Pei Hanze didn’t let her finish, coldly interrupting her words, "You need not worry about this matter. It is The Emperor himself who has commanded me to assist you. Otherwise, you would face difficulty in commanding respect and in finding Pei Huaian, let alone stabilizing Jingzhou."

He had anticipated her opposition and deliberately brought up the Emperor’s command.

As he expected, Shao He’s complexion changed unpredictably upon hearing this, and in the end, she gritted her teeth and said, "Since that is the case, we shall travel together."

"Hmm," he hummed lightly and continued, "However, I would remind you that this journey requires three days. I expect to reach Jingzhou within these three days."

"Everything shall be as the Prince arranges." Shao He had no specific requests regarding this.

Moreover, she too was eager to reach Jingzhou sooner to understand what exactly was going on there, and what exactly had happened to Pei Huaian, as there had been no news of him for many days.

That night, Pei Hanze and his men rushed towards Jingzhou, never stopping even for a moment along the way.

Finally, on the morning of the third day, the carriage stopped amidst a dense forest.

Inside the carriage, Shao He, pale-faced, opened her eyes slightly and asked, "Why have we stopped?"

"You should rest here for a moment; I will take some men to scout ahead," Pei Hanze dismounted from his horse and walked off on his own.

Qingxia supported Shao He out of the carriage for some air. The continuous travel had taken its toll on Shao He’s body, leaving her dizzy and disoriented at this moment.

"Miss, there’s a stream ahead, I will fetch some water for you to drink," said Qing Shan.

"Alright," Shao He replied weakly, nodding.

With Shao He’s consent, Qing Shan took the water jug and headed to the stream. After drawing water, she was about to turn back when she sensed a pair of eyes watching her.

Qing Shan didn’t look in the direction of the eyes, but hastened her steps back to Shao He’s side and placed the water jug in her hands.

Crouching down, she said, "Miss, let’s return to the carriage now."

Shao He, sensing something was amiss with Qing Shan, didn’t ask any questions and rose to head towards the carriage.

Before she could get on the carriage, a person hidden in the shadows suddenly rushed over, snatching the water jug from her hand and began to drink noisily from it.

Qingxia and Qing Shan protected Shao He, while the Hidden Guard drew his sword and aimed it at the newcomer.

"Hold on," Shao He suddenly spoke up.

The person who had drunk all the water looked at them timidly, "I... am thirsty."

Seeing the unkempt youth, Shao He ventured to ask, "Why are you here?"

The youth blinked, not answering her question, only tilting his head as he watched her, seemingly not understanding the meaning of her words.

"Miss, we should get back on the carriage," Qing Shan warned.

After all, their current location was exceedingly dangerous, and they needed to be cautious.

"Here," the youth attempted to approach and return the water jug to Shao He, but a sword tip stopped him.

Shao He paused as she was boarding the carriage, "Put your sword away."

Upon hearing her command, the Hidden Guard immediately sheathed his sword.
