Chapter 432 - 434: How Could It Be You?

Chapter 432: Chapter 434: How Could It Be You?

Shao He stopped in her tracks, warily scanning her surroundings before continuing forward.

Suddenly, she felt something was amiss, as familiar footsteps sounded ahead.

Instinctively, Shao He heightened her alertness and quietly detoured onto a side path.

After turning the corner, she inadvertently bumped into a firm chest. Someone steadied her arm in time; she used the momentum to stabilize herself and quickly stepped back.

She saw a tall and handsome man, staring intently at her.

The man appeared to be around twenty-five or twenty-six, with rather pale skin, a slim and slender figure, brows marked by a faint, sickly frailness, yet he exuded a gentleness like jade, particularly captivating.

"Sorry, I didn’t notice you," Shao He apologized slightly bowing, aware that not many could roam freely in the palace; this man must be no ordinary being.

She definitely did not want to make enemies, lest she bring unnecessary trouble to Pei Huaian.

Pei Hanze stared intently at her face, his smile slightly stiff. His hand trembled as he reached out, intending to touch her face.

Instinctively, Shao He stepped back; she was certain she did not know the man before her.

Perhaps realizing his mishap, Pei Hanze retracted his hand and coughing lightly, he said, "Sorry, Miss, you just resemble someone I used to know. I was a bit startled."

Shao He slightly nodded her head, not paying much thought, and hurried past him.

Pei Hanze coughed twice, muttering to himself, "It’s not you, how could it be you."

After speaking, he continued walking forward.

Shao He, holding the Imperial Medical Bureau’s token, easily entered the Imperial Medical Bureau.

After acquiring the herbs she needed, she was about to leave when she saw an Imperial Physician suddenly convulsing.

As everyone stood helpless, Shao He immediately stepped forward, pressed on his acupuncture points, and helped alleviate his condition.

Soon, the convulsing man gradually stabilized, and Shao He unbuttoned his clothes to start applying needles.

"My goodness, that’s incredible."

"To be able to diagnose the symptoms and treat them so quickly is truly miraculous."

Hearing the praises from the crowd, Shao He curled her lips. These Imperial Physicians were overly cautious, always afraid of mistreating the nobles of the palace, which led them over time to develop a habit of uncertainty about diagnosing conditions.

Just then, Pei Hanze, who had come to the Imperial Medical Bureau, witnessed the scene of Shao He saving the man.

His fingers gripping the doorframe tightened, his gaze fixed on Shao He, dark and profound.

Is it you?

A surge of euphoria swelled in Pei Hanze’s heart, yet his expression remained indifferent, as if what he had just seen was merely an illusion.

By now, Shao He had finished administering the needles and was ready to leave, only to find herself caught in a tender gaze.

She couldn’t help but frown, feeling uncomfortable under the intense gaze of the other.

Without a sound, she averted her eyes and turned to leave.

But Pei Hanze did not give her the chance; he blocked her path and spoke softly, "I am Pei Hanze, may I know the lady’s name?"

"Shao He."

Shao He replied with a faint smile, paying no attention to his name.

"You are a doctor?"

Pei Hanze narrowed his eyes, his gaze turned enigmatic as he stared at Shao He.

"Yes," Shao He lifted her foot and walked out.

"I see Miss Shao is highly skilled in medicine; may I ask who your teacher is?" Pei Yuhan asked with a gentle smile, his tone friendly and compelling, difficult to refuse.

"I have nothing to say."

Pei Yuhan’s gentle gaze fell upon her, as if admiring a precious artifact, he expressed his admiration, "I mean you no harm, no need to be so defensive."

Feeling annoyed inside, Shao He had never encountered someone so persistently chatty, and was forced to stop, "Please stop following me."

"Where do you live?" Pei Yuhan asked persistently.

Shao He frowned, sternly asking, "What exactly do you want?"

Pei Yuhan pursed his lips into a smile, "You’ve misunderstood, I’m merely curious about which school you hail from. I mean no harm."

Shao He looked at him doubtfully, half-believing and half-doubting, could it be that he really had no ill intentions?

Suddenly, Pei Yuhan drew closer, causing Shao He’s pupils to dilate sharply as she exclaimed, "Shameless!"

As she launched her silver needles towards him, Pei Hanze deftly dodged by twisting to the side, then swiftly grabbed her wrist.

He pulled her into his arms and said in a husky voice, "I am not a lecher, Miss, rest assured!"

Shao He glared at him furiously. Just then, Pei Hanze’s mouth oozed blood, he clutched his chest, his face growing paler, and sweat beads formed on his forehead.

Shao He, with eyes wide open in shock, quickly pulled away, "Are you alright?"

Pei Yuhan nodded, his face betraying immense pain, "I won’t die."

Trembling, he stretched out his hand, removing a bug from Shao He’s clothing.

"I thought you would be scared and stay quiet; I didn’t expect you to misinterpret my actions."

Shao He had not expected this, feeling suddenly apologetic. She reached to check his pulse, finding his organs failing and his internal energy extremely unstable.

Though such a person would not die immediately, he would need a significant amount of medicinal support to stay alive.

Yet considering his young age, how could he be in such a state?

Seeing her expressive look, Pei Hanze’s lips unconsciously curved slightly.

"It seems you know about my illness now."

Shao He nodded regretfully, thinking it a pity for someone so young.
