Reborn As Divine Doctor to Rule the World
Chapter 384 - 385: Shao He’s Concerns

Chapter 384: Chapter 385: Shao He’s Concerns

Shao He tidied herself up before heading to Xiao Linzhang’s room, only to sit beside the bed as she watched the child playing there.

"Your dad is nothing but a philanderer."

Shao He’s face blushed at the thought of that incident; it was the first time she’d been treated so frivolously by anyone. If she hadn’t been without her silver needles at the time, she would’ve pricked him a few times to cool his ardor.

"Dad, Dad."

"What dad? He’s nothing but a big pervert, acting on lust at the sight of beauty."

"All that talk of ’unable to control himself,’ ’passion beyond restraint’ is just excuses for his hormones."

Muttering to herself, Shao He actually didn’t hold any grudge against Pei Huaian in her heart; they were, after all, in the throes of passionate love.

That Pei Huaian was able to stop at all was a sign that some rationality still remained.

That night, as she slept, Shao He seemed to dream vaguely of Pei Huaian, the two of them frolicking and chasing each other through a bed of flowers.

Finally, exhausted, they collapsed onto the grass, staring up at the azure sky.

"In this life, don’t even dream of leaving me."

Like a spell, that sentence lingered in her ears, refusing to fade away.

When Shao He opened her eyes, the sun was high in the sky. The chirping birds outside the window startled her awake.

"Last night... How could I have such a dream?"

She patted her chest, recalling the dream of entangling with Pei Huaian in the grass, yet unaware of what followed.

She quickly dressed and got out of bed to wash up, making sure to close the door behind her before leaving.

Just as she walked into the courtyard, the fragrance of food wafted through the air, making her stomach growl with hunger.

She followed the aroma to the kitchen, and upon pushing the door open, she saw Qingxia cutting vegetables and cooking, bathed in the warmth of the sunlight.

Suddenly, Shao He felt a pang of loss, having hoped for something else...

"Miss, you’re awake."

Shao He came back to reality and nodded to Qingxia, "I didn’t know you could cook."

"Just a little, not much." Qingxia replied while placing the prepared pastries into the pot to steam.

"Mommy, Mommy!"

The childlike voice called out as Shao He turned to see the small figure rushing towards her and hurriedly caught him in her arms, unable to resist kissing his forehead.

"Daddy, Daddy."

"Your daddy is busy and has no time for you," Shao He said, teasing with a smile.

Qingxia let slip without thinking, "I heard that the Fifth Prince left the house early in the morning; I don’t know where he’s gone."

"What?"

Shao He suddenly remembered The Emperor’s words, having tasked him with a very difficult mission; if he completed it, their marriage would be firmly settled, and The Emperor would have no further objections, nor would he force him to marry any other women.

Seeing her mistress’s surprised face, Qingxia quickly covered her mouth, wondering if she had misspoken.

"Forgive me, Miss, did I speak out of turn?"

Shao He shook her head, indicating it wasn’t Qingxia’s fault, "This has nothing to do with you."

Qingxia sighed in relief.

During the meal, Shao He was absent-minded, even distracted while diagnosing patients, occasionally even writing the wrong prescriptions.

Noticing her distracted state, Yun Qian asked, "Are you all right? Is there some discomfort in your body? Or... is it a quarrel?"

"No." Shao He pinched the corner of her eye, trying to stop her mind from wandering to Pei Huaian.

She couldn’t help but worry, wondering if he might encounter danger this time, even feeling some regret for the argument they had the day before.

Maybe then they could have parted on better terms.

"Qingxia, take your mistress to rest in the backyard, and brew a cup of tea to refresh her," Yun Qian instructed.

"Yes." Qingxia supported Shao He as they left.

Qingxia soon brought a pot of hot tea, "Miss, have some tea."

Shao He, looking at the steaming tea, whispered, "Why didn’t he say goodbye? Just left without a trace."

"The mistress need not worry too much, perhaps the Prince will return after a while," Qingxia tried to reassure her.

"You don’t understand; you know nothing," Shao He sighed softly, not willing to elaborate further.

Qingxia felt her mistress was behaving uncharacteristically; the latter usually didn’t wallow in self-pity. Today, she seemed somewhat despondent.

At lunch, Shao He hardly had an appetite and simply left her chopsticks and walked out.

Standing under a willow tree, leaning against the thick trunk with her hands crossed in front of her, she looked up at the pristine white clouds.

"Shao He, what exactly happened? Can’t you even tell me?" Yun Qian followed her out.

Shao He turned to him, her gaze returning, "The Emperor has given him a highly dangerous task as the price for marrying me as his Principal Wife."

"So, his leaving this time is to undertake that task, and that’s why you’re worried?" Yun Qian quickly understood from her words.

Shao He nodded somberly.

Yun Qian lifted his hand to pat her shoulder consolingly, "The Fifth Prince is not as frail as you think. No matter how dangerous the task, as long as you are here, he will definitely come back alive to see you."

"If you’re going to be so preoccupied that you can’t eat or drink properly, you might fall ill before he even returns, especially since you’re still injured," Yun Qian continued his encouragement.

He was glad that he had suppressed that little flutter of his heart from the past; now, he genuinely regarded Shao He as family, and that wasn’t so bad.
