Chapter 380: Chapter 381: The Second Prince’s Grand Wedding
Shao He looked at the child of her longing, ultimately dropping her hands powerlessly and went over to caress Xiao Linzhang’s cheek, their foreheads touching.
Qingxia and Qing Shan, upon learning of the young lady’s injury, anxiously asked, "Why is the young lady injured?"
They only knew that the young lady had been framed and imprisoned but were not aware of her injury.
"It’s nothing serious, it has been cared for several days, and the wound is almost healed," Shao He said with a smile.
"The Liang Family has gone too far, randomly picking a maid to take the blame!" Qingxia said angrily.
"Indeed, young lady, if not for Liang Rou’s instigation, how could that maid dare to be so bold and reckless?" Qing Shan chimed in.
"Liang Rou did a clean job of this matter; merely having the maid under her cannot convict her," Shao He said, shaking her head.
"Young lady, then what should we do? We can’t just let the Liang Family get away with this," Qingxia said, frowning prettily.
"No, we will eventually settle this score."
"Young lady, are you thinking of..."
"Mm." Shao He nodded, "There will always be opportunities in the future, why the rush."
Realization dawned on Qingxia, "Young lady, what do you plan to do?"
After a moment of thought, Shao He said with a light laugh, "I plan to personally deliver a great gift to Liang Rou."
Qingxia and Qing Shan exchanged glances, excitement twinkling in their eyes.
A wicked smile curled the corners of Shao He’s mouth; since the Liang Family had been unkind, they wouldn’t blame her for being unjust.
Half a month later, Pei Chengye had his grand wedding.
The wedding was extremely grand; all the officials and nobles of the Capital City attended, the entire street was festooned with lanterns and decorations, bustling with excitement.
At the feast, guests filled the halls, toasts were made amidst waves of laughter and chatter that echoed in the sky, like the most enchanting music in the world.
The groom, Pei Chengye, dressed in a red wedding robe, stood on the steps greeting the congratulatory guests.
His handsome features wore a faint smile, every move exuding elegance and grace which drew many admiring glances from the ladies.
"Congratulations to the Second Prince, today is truly filled with joy and envy," an official said with a chuckle.
Pei Chengye replied with genteel nods, "Thank you for your kind words."
Soon, sounds of gongs and drums came from afar followed by a chorus of firecrackers as a bridal sedan chair slowly made its way from the other end of the long street.
An official nudged Pei Chengye with a wink and murmured, "Second Prince, you really are a lucky man!"
Pei Chengye hooked his lips into a light smile but said nothing.
The bridal sedan chair came to a halt slowly, and the Matron of Honor immediately lifted the curtain, assisting the bashful bride to step out.
The bride was dressed in a bright red wedding gown, her face covered with a red veil, her features obscured.
Yet, from her graceful posture and elegant gait, everyone guessed that the person inside the sedan chair must be a beauty of exceptional charm.
A red ribbon was handed to both, and the Matron of Honor urged with a cheery voice, "Please, Second His Highness, lead the bride into the Wedding Hall to pay respects!"
Pei Chengye grasped the red silk firmly, leading the bride toward the Wedding Hall.
Thunderous applause erupted from the viewing stands on both sides, and cheer after cheer pushed the banquet to its climax.
Inside the Wedding Hall, The Emperor and Empress sat in the place of honor. Seeing this, the Matron of Honor began to chant, "The auspicious time has arrived, the groom and bride should perform the grand ceremony—"
Pei Chengye, holding the bride’s hand, kneeled and kowtowed three times before standing up again.
"Bow to heaven and earth—"
"Bow to the high hall—"
"Husband and wife bow to each other—"
"Enter the bridal chamber—"
Pei Chengye was about to leave with his bride when he was held back by a group of The Emperor’s men for a toast.
"Hey, you can’t go yet, Second Brother. Today is your big wedding; we must each toast you a glass," Pei Haolan laughed as he pulled him back.
Pei Chengye frowned slightly, but still picked up the wine glass from the table and clinked it with his.
"Second Imperial Brother, congratulations on winning a beautiful wife," Pei Jingyi lifted his cup and said.
"Thank you," Pei Chengye replied with a forced smile, even if he was reluctant in his heart.
"Second Imperial Brother is indeed fortunate today, marrying such a beautiful lady. I’ve heard the Imperial Sister-in-Law is very filial; such a woman is rare indeed!"
"Yes, the legitimate daughter of the Zhou Family is said to be as beautiful as a celestial, Second has truly gotten his wish."
"Imperial Brother flatters me."
Listening to these flattering words, Pei Chengye was very pleased and didn’t care whether they were sincere or not.
Seeing this, other high officials also stepped forward to offer their congratulations, with Pei Chengye busily responding, "Thanks to all for your grace."
In a private room, The Emperor had a one-on-one meeting with Shao He, ostensibly to have her check his pulse and diagnose him, but really, he wanted to inquire about how the child had been lately.
"Your Majesty, rest assured, Xiao Linzhang is well, and she has grown quite quickly," Shao He replied.
The Emperor let out a soft sigh and said, "I heard that a few days ago you were framed for murder and thrown into prison, what’s this all about?"
The Emperor didn’t normally care about such trivial matters, but now that Shao He’s status was different from before, if she had a stain on her reputation, it might lead others to think her unworthy of her position.
Shao He frowned slightly and explained, "It was Liang Rou holding a grudge and seeking retaliation through this opportunity. However, the matter has been dealt with, and I thank The Emperor for his concern."
"I was worried what would happen if something happened to you, and Xiao Linzhang was left without proper care."
Immediately, The Emperor wondered if the child had any issues with speaking since every word he spoke seemed to bounce out one by one, expressing his concern, "Does the child have a problem speaking?"
