Chapter 372: Chapter 373: Settling Scores at Their Doorstep
Shao He released her shoulder and stared at the woman with grim and icy eyes, "I don’t want to cause trouble, but I’m not afraid of it either. You’d better not provoke me!"
The woman glared viciously at her, and upon being released, she shouted frantically, "I will kill you! Kill you."
As soon as she finished speaking, she drew a sword from a guard’s sheath behind her and lunged at Shao He, who easily sidestepped and grabbed the woman’s sword-wielding wrist, twisting it forcefully.
A "crack..." followed by a piercing scream rang out.
The woman, clutching her dislocated right arm, kneeled on the ground in pain and cried.
The surrounding crowd, startled by the scene, stepped back and quickly dispersed from the medical clinic, afraid that the crazed woman might vent her anger on them.
Dusting off her clothes, Shao He coldly glanced at the woman moaning on the ground, "If you dare trouble me again, losing an arm will be the least of your problems!"
The woman glared at Shao He, teeth clenched, but seeing the chill in her eyes, she endured the pain, got up from the ground, and ran out of the clinic.
Meanwhile, the others were saying that Shao He might be in trouble, considering the woman’s extraordinary identity.
It was heard that this woman was the daughter of a wealthy merchant in the Capital City, the only daughter in her family, thus extremely spoiled, which had encouraged her reckless behavior.
Soon, the trouble spoken of by the townspeople arrived; a pot-bellied middle-aged man entered the clinic, every inch of him exuding opulence.
The man glanced around and asked, "Who is Shao He?"
From his demeanor, it was clear he was there to cause trouble. As Zhao Yuebei was about to step out from behind the counter, Shao He spoke first, "I am. What seems to be the problem?"
The middle-aged man squinted his eyes, scrutinizing her. Despite noticing something extraordinary about her appearance, he disdainfully said, "Was it you who injured my daughter?"
"It was your daughter who first smashed my clinic and attempted to kill me. I injured her in self-defense!" Shao He explained composedly.
Since she dared to articulate all this, she wasn’t afraid of what the man before her might do to her.
"You, what nonsense are you spouting? My daughter is so well-behaved, how could she command someone to smash your shop? It seems to me you are just trying to shift the blame."
Shao He scoffed, "Well-behaved? Is it well-behaved to smash someone else’s clinic, or to shout about beating and killing, or perhaps strutting around arrogantly?"
"Mister, I urge you to use your brain a bit more. Don’t take her words at face value. There’s a limit to spoiling a daughter, or does ’spoiling a child is akin to killing a child’ mean nothing to you?"
Her words infuriated the middle-aged man, his forehead veins bulging as he shouted towards the clinic entrance, "Tie this woman up and throw her to the Mass Burial Mound to feed the wild dogs."
The guards outside, upon his command, rolled up their sleeves and advanced toward the clinic, heading straight for Shao He.
Seeing the men coming, Shao He spread her legs slightly, ready to fight, but just as they neared, a figure suddenly darted from their side and stopped in front of Shao He.
Everyone looked up to see a man in black clothes watching them coldly.
"Why are you here?" Shao He asked, surprised, looking at the broad figure before her.
Pei Huaian’s long eyelashes drooped slightly, concealing the fleeting light in his eyes.
"I’ve said before, I will protect you, never letting anyone bully you and the child, no matter when."
Without hesitation, he kicked the approaching guard, swiftly knocking him down, leaving him unable to even crawl up. Then he grabbed the middle-aged man by the collar and dragged him out.
The man had no strength to resist and was dragged away, still shouting, "Who are you to treat me this way? Do you know..."
"Unexpectedly, after the Prince spared your daughter’s life last time, you’ve become even bolder. It seems you need a harsher lesson to respect the Prince."
Pei Huaian had initially intended to let the woman off last time, yet she had boldly presented herself again.
"The Fifth Prince?" The middle-aged man looked up in shock, never having imagined the man before him was the Emperor’s favorite.
Meanwhile, the surrounding crowd gradually dispersed, fearful of being implicated.
Meanwhile, the woman’s expression changed from initial anger to fascinated adoration, her attitude shifting from dislike to affection astonishingly quickly.
"Are you really the Fifth Prince?" the woman asked cautiously, running towards him, not quite sure.
Pei Huaian did not even spare her a glance, merely staring coldly at the middle-aged man and said, "Take your daughter and get out of my sight, or it won’t be so easy next time."
Seeing that he had narrowly escaped a disaster, the man immediately began to leave with his daughter. However, where the daughter got the courage from, she suddenly shook off her father’s hand.
She rushed back to Pei Huaian, grabbed his sleeve, and shook it, "Tell me, are you really the Fifth Prince?"
Pei Huaian unceremoniously cast her off. The woman staggered a few steps, nearly falling, but was fortunately caught by the quickly approaching middle-aged man.
"Enough, stop embarrassing yourself here and get back!"
The middle-aged man clenched his teeth and dragged her away.
Still, the woman seemed frantic, breaking free again and standing in front Pei Huaian with her hand out.
"I adore you, Fifth Prince. I know you have a Principal Wife, but I am willing to be your Concubine."
She revered the Fifth Prince immensely, even a single glance from him sent her into ecstasy.
"Get lost!"
