Chapter 369: Chapter 370: Heart-to-Heart Under the Moon

Shao He saw the person with dim eyes and comforted, "The matter of getting married can be put on hold for now, there’s no hurry."

How could there not be urgency? He was eager to marry the person, but fortunately, they could now be openly together without having to sneak around in fear of being seen by others.

"I have gathered all the evidence regarding my mother consort’s case, and now I am only waiting for Pei Chengye to get married before I move against the Empress," Pei Huaian did not want to ruin the wedding ceremonies of several Imperial Brothers, so he had no choice but to wait.

After so many years, a few more months wouldn’t make a difference.

"Get married? Is Pei Chengye really going to marry Jiang Zhou?"

"The Emperor has already decreed the marriage, and even if he is unwilling, he must marry her. Thus, regardless of what Xia Zhaoshun wants to do, I must destroy this first move of his," Pei Huaian said.

Pei Huaian sensed that Xia Zhaoshun’s intentions were not so simple—it wasn’t just about winning over Pei Chengye, but likely something more sinister.

"Will Jiang Zhou truly marry him?" Shao He somewhat disbelievingly asked, wondering if a woman would marry a man who did not love her.

Pei Huaian replied, "Jiang Zhou is naturally unwilling, but she couldn’t stand up to Xia Zhaoshun’s persuasion and had no choice but to agree."

"What? Xia Zhaoshun persuaded Jiang Zhou to marry Pei Chengye? He didn’t advise against wearing the green hat himself?"

Shao He truly didn’t understand his thinking—pushing out the woman he loved was bad enough, yet he firmly persuaded her to marry someone else.

"What’s so strange about that? When faced with interests, Xia Zhaoshun chose benefits over Jiang Zhou," Pei Huaian calmly stated.

Shao He thought for a moment, sighed deeply, "How come there has still been no whisper about Jiang Zhou giving birth? How has the Jiang Family covered this matter up so tightly?"

"The Jiang Family’s methods are not simple, be careful," Pei Huaian said.

Pei Huaian was afraid something would happen to her, as the Jiang Family was not easy to deal with. They were a group of sharp-tongued predators who would do anything for gain.

"I understand."

Through the matter of childbirth, Shao He had already seen how formidable the Jiang Family’s methods were.

"Also, the Emperor wants to see Xiao Linzhang. Find an excuse to bring the child along when you go to the palace to ask for a safe pulse in a few days," Pei Huaian said.

"Okay."

As the evening settled, Pei Huaian noticed it getting late and seeing his handsome face, felt a stir in his heart. Tugging at his hand, he said affectionately, "Stay tonight."

Shao He was startled, not expecting him to make such a request, and coughed lightly, "No."

Their relationship had not yet reached that step, although they had once been husband and wife, but that was under the influence of drugs.

"The Emperor has already decreed the marriage, you cannot escape," Pei Huaian declared dominantly.

Shao He’s mouth twitched a few times, and he shook his head helplessly, "I should head back first!"

However, Pei Huaian, acting shamelessly, was unwilling to let go of his hand, and moved closer with a grin, saying, "Since you’ll eventually be my wife anyway, why not..."

This guy, taking advantage of her situation and even trying to exploit her vulnerability.

"Get lost!" Shao He roared, stomping hard on Pei Huaian’s foot.

Pei Huaian cried out in pain, "You’re actually trying to murder your own husband."

"..."

This guy was shameless—no, he seemed to have never been shameless in front of her; his face was thicker than the city walls!

...

Early the next morning, Shao He arrived at Anji Hall, where she was checking medicinal herbs, when suddenly a figure blocked her.

"Doctor Shao."

Shao He looked up and saw the visitor, a trace of puzzlement in her eyes.

"Is there something you need?"

"A concubine who just gave birth had some issues; we’d like Doctor Shao to come and take a look," said the person, none other than a nanny from the Jiang Family.

Although Shao He was suspicious, she followed. She didn’t think the Jiang Family would harm her just yet, but if something indeed happened to Jiang Zhou, they would certainly not let her off.

Shao He entered the main hall of the Jiang Family home, where Lady Jiang exuded an air of authority, even giving Shao He a bit of a hard time upon arrival.

But such a small maneuver was child’s play to Shao He.

She could not be intimidated by such tactics, not even before the Emperor himself.

Standing in the main hall calmly and proudly, Shao He made not only Lady Jiang feel guilty but forced her to relent.

"Doctor Shao, please have a seat," Lady Jiang quickly changed her attitude, her face breaking into a gentle smile.

Shao He took a slight sip of the fragrant tea and said coolly, "Lady Jiang, no need for formalities."

Lady Jiang immediately felt awkward but being accustomed to high status, quickly regained composure.

"I invited Doctor Shao here to have you check again on the concubine and child, to see how the wounds are healing," she said.

Shao He raised her eyebrows; seldom did a legitimate wife care so much about a concubine, probably wishing instead for some complications to arise.

"I need to examine them to know whether the healing is going well. I wonder where the concubine and child are now," Shao He said, concealing her expression.

"Please follow me, Doctor Shao," Lady Jiang said, rising to lead the way herself.

Arriving in the room, Shao He saw Jiang Zhou lying on the bed with her face veiled and examined her.

"She’s recovering very well, there won’t be any problems,"

Upon hearing this, Lady Jiang was relieved. Jiang Zhou, seeing the departing figure, couldn’t contain herself and called out, "Doctor Shao, please wait."

"What is it?" Shao He turned around.

"I, I..." Jiang Zhou found it difficult to speak about such a matter, fumbling for words and saying nothing coherent, her face turning beet red instead.
