Reborn As Cursed Alpha's Mate
Chapter 224: What Are They?

Chapter 224: What Are They?

~Hiss~

The monstrous snake spit what seemed like a dirty green poisonous substance onto them, like a spray. It spread all over Cassandra’s shield, protecting her companions.

A pungent smell erupted as her protective boundary sizzled and smoke rose from where that gigantic snake had sprayed them with his poison.

Aiko and Lotus shrieked and ducked while Razial pulled out his sword and Faris extracted his axe.

Siroos shifted to his wolf and jumped. The skin of his mouth stretched back as he let out a growl and sunk his canines into the snake’s huge head. The snake thrashed, and his whole body came crashing down on the ground with a loud thud. It curled and writhed, trying to crush Siroos but the shield around him prevented the creature from wrapping its elongated body around the Alpha.

"Move back!" Faris instructed Aiko and Lotus and they instantly obeyed, giving them space. Cassandra focused her shield so Siroos and others would be safe.

"Ahrgg!" Faris brought his axe down on its middle body while Razial plunged the sword into the side of its belly.

The snake hissed and thrashed in pain as his body was split in half. Siroos’s wolf dug his sharp teeth even deeper as his claws shredded the remaining part of his upper body until all the fight and life left it.

The wolf spit out the head as Faris triumphantly shouted.

"No one can escape my mighty axe. Did you see that mate?"

Aiko nodded with admiration in her eyes but was still rattled by the snake which lay dead at the feet of the three men.

Everyone relaxed and Siroos was about to shift back when several loud hissing sounds erupted. So loud and clear that their heads swivelled up in the direction the noises were coming from.

"There are more of them, be alert," Faris warned, readying his axe.

Their eyes drifted upwards and the sky seemed to have darkened as two more greenish-yellow serpent-like creatures hovered over them. Their hateful beady eyes were focused on the dead snake lying in their feet; it looked like a baby in front of them. Their extremely scaly skins had a light shine to them. Their frightening mouths were widened which revealed sword-like sharp teeth and forked tongues which seemed to be at least 4-5 meters long.

One of them even had wings like a gigantic bat.

"People, am I the only one who thinks we killed their baby snake and made mommy and daddy snake furious?" Lotus asked in a frightened voice, she hated snakes.

"It’s very likely," Cassandra answered, strengthening her lilac shield which rippled around all six of them. Her hands remained ready to form her ball of fire and hurl it at them.

’I am going to turn into my dragon.’ Siroos mindlinked his brother.

"Move back everyone," Faris quickly ordered, taking a few steps away from Siroos, giving him space so he could shift. Others did the same.

The larger of the two serpents had a huge scale on its head, shaped like a crown. Its eyes glowed like molten embers. With a thunderous hiss, it opened its fanged maw, unleashing a torrent of searing flames. The fire roared forth and sprayed all over them, only to land over Cassandra’s shield. It held on to protect them but she could sense it weighing down on them.

The fire ricocheted off the shield, spreading in other directions and setting fire to the surrounding trees and the other vegetation.

Aiko shrieked, ducking, the fear gripping her body for she had never seen such huge creatures.

"Commander, we will take the left one," Faris informed as he readied his axe to attack.

Cassandra wished she would reach out to these creatures as well, let them know they meant them no harm and were only passing by but the malice in their eyes told her it wasn’t going to be similar to those creatures they had passed before in Volsra.

Siroos had fully transformed now. He rose, flapping his enormous onyx-shaded wings and went straight for the serpent which had attacked them with his blasting fire. They could only assume that one was the male species.

Both spit out fire which collided midway. One was orangish-yellow, while the Siroos one had a more red hue to it.

The other creature now slithered on the forest floor covered in dead leaves and was fast approaching them.

"What even are they? An unhealthy cross between a dragon and a snake?" Lotus asked disgustedly.

Hurriedly she took out a small vial from the satchel around Razial’s shoulder. Thinking It was the Sleeping dust. But in reality, it contained the same hallucinating dust Lotus had previously used on the guards in order to rescue Razial.

She may not have her magic or know how to use weapons but she had her magic dusts and potions. She would put up an equal fight. She handed some of it to Aiko and explained what needed to be done with it.

The serpent was fast approaching them now. They formed a line of defence in front of Cassandra who concentrated on keeping her protective boundary intact.

"Maybe, the snake was infidel and was taken by the charm of a dragon and couldn’t resist his advances. Henceforth, the byproducts we are seeing now," Faris quipped as he swung his axe in full force and it connected with the serpent’s face, chipping away the side. Razial was ready with his sword, slashing it through the air with a whooshing sound he cut off a piece of his scale.

It painfully thrashed, making angered hissing sounds. Its tongue forked out trying to wrap the commander in it but would hit the barrier and retreat. The girls stood behind Razial, waiting for the opportunity.

Faris took a long stride, jumped over the serpent, trying to wedge the axe into his head. But the snake-like creature was moving too rapidly. Taking this opportunity Lotus shouted.

"Now! Cover your noses." Lotus and Aiko jumped out from behind the commander and spread their hands, blowing the magic dust towards the monstrous serpent. It was trying to thrash them with his long tail now.

Razial and Cassandra stopped breathing but Faris was too busy fighting the serpent and along with him, inhaled a substantial amount of the magical dust.
