Chapter 163: Seeking Answers From His Mate

Chapter 163: Seeking Answers From His Mate

Siroos frantically paced the little space in their rented room while Faris sat wide-legged, staring at his mate who was still unconscious.

"Are you sure she is the fox-shifter?" Siroos asked again just to confirm.

Since Faris had never seen her in her human form, Siroos had doubts.

"There is no mistaking that scent, it’s driving my wolf and my fox spirit crazy right now. It’s her, the fox that made me chase her." His heart screamed at him holding the naked truth which was tearing him apart.

"Besides, she couldn’t have scented or recognised me, so her scent is real. She is my mate, whether I like it or not." Faris’s words made sense but it didn’t lessen the predicament both brothers were finding themselves in.

"I hope she is ready to tell us where that bastard is keeping Cassandra," Siroos said with clenched teeth.

The thought of her not cooperating would be a disaster and he wasn’t sure how much patience he had left.

Faris was already on the edge because of the turn of events which had taken place due to her betrayal.

Aiko finally began to stir and her confused eyes shot open. Her head pounded because of the potion still in her system.

Her dazed gaze found Faris’s raging one and then his scent hit her like a typhoon, shattering her like a wrecked boat left in its path.

She dragged in a heavy breath, which did nothing to calm all the edgy nerves. Like a fish out of water she struggled against the holds. But she had been tied up so tightly that she couldn’t move much let alone set herself free.

"Don’t bother, you are going nowhere until I get all the answers," Faris dangerously said, ignoring the thrashing mate bond in his chest. His wolf had lowered itself on his hunches and was whimpering seeing their mate all tied up.

Siroos stopped pacing and stood behind his brother, his back against the wall, watching Aiko with narrowed eyes.

They didn’t trust her, she assumed that much. She hadn’t given them any reason to.

"Ummm..." she tried to speak, but the piece of cloth inside her mouth, which was tied at the back of her neck, hindered her speech.

"I will remove the cloth if you promise not to scream and answer our questions. If you try to act smart, it will go back on, and you will never escape here. Understood," Faris asked, hoping she would stop gaping at him with such innocence-filled eyes.

It was fake, all this innocence, the act of being afraid. She was a fox spirit, and foxes were known for their trickery; he was one, so he knew. Besides he had seen and experienced her cunningness.

She quickly nodded her head. Faris reached out and pulled the strip of cloth down from her lips. His fingertips brushed against her velvety lips and sparks erupted between them, making her gasp.

Their erratic heartbeats were the only thing they could hear in those mere moments, too lost in each other’s eyes. So much hurt swam in them.

"Faris!" Siroos’s voice had him returning to his senses. He kept his hand on the cloth to shove it back inside her mouth if she made any sounds.

"Where is my sister-in-law? I know you distracted me that day and helped that fucking vampire take her away. So where is he keeping her?" Faris questioned, enraged but keeping his voice low so it wouldn’t leak out of the room.

Aiko knew sooner or later that this moment would come when she had to face her mate and give an explanation for her actions.

She also understood she shouldn’t expect forgiveness because the man leaning against the wall held such malevolence in his golden crimson eyes. He was so tall, broad and equal amounts scary that she was sure he could end her life with one blow. He instilled fear in her heart just like Kanyon did.

’Was he the feared Alpha of Dusartine who had ended Kamyn’s life?’ She found herself questioning. She should have been thankful to him, but instead, she betrayed him.

"I...am so sorry for what I did but I had no choice..." Aiko sincerely apologised, tears tumbled out of her grief-stricken eyes. One trickled down and fell on Faris’s finger and it burnt him as if it wasn’t salty water but a spark of fire.

He ignored the pain and seethed out.

"You are sorry? Your actions led to the death of my girl. Your master wrenched her heart out."

The news hit her like the coldest wind on the top of a mountain, freezing the very blood in her veins. Her mouth opened in horror and her eyes enlarged. The guilt ate her up as termites do to a log of wood.

She willed herself to speak as more tears tumbled out.

"He...is not my master. He is a monster–just like his brother, even worse than his brother." She sniffled but their expression remained pensive. They didn’t trust her words.

"Where is my mate? Lead us to her before he kills her too." Siroos detached himself from the wall and took a step forward towards her. The raw pain reflected on his face made Aiko flinch.

She shook her head, helplessly.

"I can’t tell you people, I am bound to him. If I am to reveal that information he will kill my entire family. That’s the only reason I helped him because he is keeping my family locked up. That’s why I had to share my power with him. The power to be able to open portals. Please, you have to believe me," she begged, lowering her gaze and both brothers passed uneasy glances at each other.

"Where is he keeping your family?" Faris asked with heaviness crushing his heart.

"I don’t know, he is friends with many powerful mages who cast spells for him. He is keeping them cloaked so I can’t find them, that’s why I have to keep doing his bidding. Otherwise, I would never help a murderer," she answered in all sincerity.

"Just take us nearby wherever he is keeping my mate and we will take it from there. Once I find my girl, I will help you find your family," Siroos offered.

"I can take you near to the place discreetly but I am afraid you won’t be able to enter because of the cloaking spell," she answered in all sincerity. She understood by then that she had to help them free Cassandra.
