Reborn As Cursed Alpha's Mate -
Chapter 145: Who Is This Girl?
Chapter 145: Who Is This Girl?
Cassandra could finally glance around the place Kanyon was keeping her in, now that she wasn’t blindfolded. It was a vast room with furniture in dark tones which screamed royalty.
There was a dressing table with different assortments of perfumes, hair brushes and other accessories.
The lanterns hanging in the two corners let out low red light which was almost eerie, even the candles had that same reddish orange glow that slowly flickered in their candelabras.
Dark curtains were draped on the windows, blotting out any light that might seep through or provide her with a view of the outside. She had no clue where he was keeping her.
The way he conversed with her gave birth to this dooming feeling in the pit of her stomach.
She knew, he was mercilessly going to torture her. Maybe, he was going to hand her over to Stephanie so she could exact her revenge plans.
"Where is Stephanie?" Cassandra finally willed her eyes to make contact with his. He had his hands stapled in front as he lazily rested his back against the armchair.
There was a flickering emotion in his cold lifeless eyes, that she failed to comprehend.
"Relax! Even she doesn’t know where I am keeping you. It will be our little secret." He leaned closer again, his icy cold hand reached out and began to glide over her bare thigh. "She will be told you are dead just as she wanted but death is the last thing I want for you." Iciness in his tone froze the very blood in her veins.
"Someone will bring you food, eat up and replenish your strength. You are going to need it for what I have planned for you later." Kanyon finally pulled away his hand and stood up. His wanton eyes slowly taking her in.
What was about this woman that pulled him in?
"You won’t be able to break me if that’s what you are trying to do," Cassandra challenged, refusing to succumb and appear weak in front of him.
The vampire’s curvy lips curved up some more into a grim smile. There was nothing heartwarming about it, only pure terror and it settled in the very marrow of her bones.
"We will see about that, Broken Butterfly. I would love to pluck those imaginary wings of yours." The tilt of his head swept his red-streaked hair in front of his sharp eyes, almost kissing the tip of his slim nose.
"And here I wonder how many parts of you my mate will break once he finds me," Cassandra retorted back, traces of fear Kanyon had instilled in her had evaporated. She refused to fuel his sadistic fantasies.
She couldn’t help but fantasise how Siroos will tear him apart for laying his hands on her.
"If he finds you. I am not stupid, you will find that out soon. I will make you watch what I have planned for that bloody shifter."
Kanyon winked at her before taking his leave. He exited the room, shutting the door behind him.
Cassandra was left with her muddled thoughts, all she could think about was Siroos. She had seen him regain consciousness and relentlessly prayed that he would find her before Kanyon did something unthinkable to her.
"Siro!" She let out a frustrated sigh and closed her eyes. The tears she hadn’t shed in front of Kanyon finally rolled out, carrying her helplessness and rage. She wished to be held by her mate, to be nestled in his warm chest which brought nothing but solace and assurance.
Her body ached, especially her neck but she pushed the pain down, she had to remain strong. Images of Ara resurfaced in her brain and her eyes began to swim with more tears.
Ara was innocent with so much life left in her, she died trying to protect her. She could only wonder how Faris must be faring when the truth had been revealed to him.
Recently both of them had grown closer. Cassandra could see the love both of them held for each other.
Thinking of Faris she was reminded of how he had chased a fox and called her ’Mate’.
Who could that be?
Did he finally find his mate?
Was she someone from another pack or could she be a distraction for him?
Her thoughts were interrupted when the door was pushed open again and this time a girl walked inside. She was young, couldn’t be more than twenty-one or twenty-two.
She had sapphire-shaded eyes with a hint of remorse. Her dark tresses hung loosely on her shoulders which accentuated her perfectly oval face. She carried a tray of food, which she placed on the table near the bed.
The tied woman watched her wearily as she extracted a key and silently began to loosen the shackles holding Cassandra’s hands.
"Who are you?" Cassandra asked quietly, hoping this girl would be more reasonable than Kanyon.
She refused to speak but her worried eyes did wander over the bruises on Cassandra’s skin, making her lips thin out in guilt. Her eyes spoke volumes but her lips remained sealed in that moment.
She loosened Cassandra’s hands and slipped her arm under her to help her sit up. Propping a pillow behind her she let her lean against it. Taking care that Cassandra was comfortable.
Selecting a cushion from the bed she placed it on Cassandra’s lap.
"Don’t try anything, I wish you no harm. Just eat." Picking up the tray she placed it on Cassandra’s lap and picked up a small dish with silver semi-solid paste, flickering with fine gold particles in it.
The tray had an assortment of foods ranging from exotic fruits to meat and vegetables.
The smell of roasted mutton chops and boiled potatoes filled Cassandra’s nostrils but she was far from hungry, only dizzy from the blood loss.
"You will need to drink this before the meal, it will replenish the blood you have lost," the girl said, extending the small container towards her.
Cassandra watched her with intrigue as she touched the gold dish to Cassandra’s lips and tilted it, making her take a sip. It was like drinking liquid mercury, thick in consistency and horrible in taste. It burnt her throat and she almost gagged.
"Don’t, just swallow it instead of trying to taste it," the young girl instructed and Cassandra did just that. She had to survive and and the rate he was drinking her blood, she would be dead within a day if she had no source of replenishing it.
Once all the semi-solid solution had burnt its way inside Cassandra’s stomach, leaving a horrible aftertaste, the girl removed the dish and pointed towards the food.
"Eat, it will help."
"Where are we? Are we somewhere in Volsra (The Vampire kingdom)?" Cassandra desperately questioned again, clutching the girl’s wrist.
The girl jerked her arm away and quickly stood up, her eyebrows came together in remorse.
"Stay quiet if you want to survive, don’t ask stupid questions. I can’t help you, I am sorry." The girl moved further away from Cassandra so she wouldn’t touch her again.
Seeing the fear highlighted in her eyes, the Luna decided not to push her or get her into trouble. It was clear she was terrified of Kanyon, the man was well-known for his atrocities and Cassandra was not witnessing them first hand. She wished the girl no harm.
Dragging her eyes back to the tray Cassandra picked up a grape from the fruit plate and placed it in her mouth. She tried to chew. The taste which used to tingle her senses was bland in her mouth. She dawdled but in the end, was only able to eat very little. The idea of food was making her nauseated.
"You should eat, Prince Kanyon will not be pleased," the girl warned her but Cassandra just shook her head.
"I can’t, just take it away."
With a sigh the girl with blue eyes removed the tray from her lap.
She tightened the chains holding her again and picked up the tray, ready to leave.
Something clicked inside Cassandra and she couldn’t help but ask.
"Are you a fox-shifter?"
The girl almost dropped the tray at Cassandra’s sudden question. She tried to hide it but the remorse that had crept up in her oceanic eyes was too prominent for Cassandra to miss.
"Are you my brother-in-law’s mate? Were you the one he chased after?" Cassandra carefully asked her next questions. Hoping that she was right about her.
The girl’s lips wobbled slightly as she tried to reel in her emotions and finally spoke.
"I don’t know what you are talking about. It would be better if you don’t voice dangerous thoughts which will get us both killed," throwing the words as a warning she quickly whirled around and walked away, closing the door behind her.
Leaving Cassandra with mixed thoughts. She could be the fox-shifter or she could just be Kanyon’s personal maid.
Closing her eyes, Cassandra tried not to think too much of when Kanyon would return to resume torturing her again.
