Luo Qiao woke up to find that Lu Yichen had already returned with Stone.

Perhaps because he had been eating well living with Luo Qiao and the others for the past few years, and had grown a bit healthier, plus spending two months of the summer vacation training with the children from the military compound, he had grown quite a bit taller.

Stone was in the yard helping Lu Yichen water the plants, all of which Luo Qiao had asked to be planted. Seeing Luo Qiao come out, he said, "Sister, you’re awake?"

Luo Qiao saw the smile on Stone’s face and said, "Stone, come here and let your sister have a look at you. Wow, you’re almost taller than me now."

Lu Yichen glanced up and said, "What do you mean ’almost’? He’s already taller than you."

Then they heard someone laughing outside, and Lu Yichen went to the gate to see Auntie Liu coming over with things in her hands, "Auntie, where are you off to?"

Auntie Liu said with a smile, "I went to babysit my eldest son’s child, and this is their local product—yam powder. I brought some for you; it keeps well."

Lu Yichen said, "Auntie, you’ve brought this all the way back and even thought of us."

Auntie Liu glanced at Luo Qiao and said, "It’s good if you don’t mind. I brought back a bit extra, so I’m sharing some with the neighbors. It’s just something different to try."

Luo Qiao also smiled and came out, "Auntie, please come in and sit."

Auntie Liu waved her hand, "No, I still need to deliver to other homes, so I won’t come in."

Though Lu Yichen initially didn’t want to accept it, Luo Qiao took it with a smile, "Then thank you very much, Auntie. I do actually like eating powdered foods. Just wait a moment, and I will empty the cloth bag for you."

Auntie Liu stood at the gate looking into the yard and nodded, "You’ve cleaned up the courtyard nicely; it’s pleasant to look at."

The courtyard used to be a mess since the previous occupants didn’t care for it, and Auntie Liu never visited unless she had to.

After emptying the cloth bag, Luo Qiao saw that there was still a lot of the snacks Lu Yichen had brought over previously, so she packed up some: scallion-flavored twists, crispy baked dates, and dried peaches, filling up nearly half the cloth bag.

When Luo Qiao came out, Auntie Liu immediately noticed the loaded bag, "Oh my, Luo Qiao, what is this for?"

Luo Qiao said with a smile, "Auntie, I wouldn’t stand on ceremony with you just now; these are some snacks I made myself. Please don’t refuse and take them back for your family to try."

When Auntie Liu heard these were made by Luo Qiao herself, she smiled and said, "Well, I must try them, but isn’t this a bit too much?"

Luo Qiao laughed, "It’s not too much, not too much at all. There are just three varieties, it’s really not a lot."

Auntie Liu said a bit embarrassedly, "Look at me bringing some specialities, and taking back so much food."

Thinking of the inevitable future visits, Luo Qiao wanted to maintain good relations with the neighbors in the housing compound, "It’s not anything expensive. If you like it, I can bring you more when I make it next time."

Auntie Liu laughed heartily, "Trying a bit is enough, I couldn’t ask for more. You’re busy; I have to go back."

After seeing Auntie Liu off, Lu Yichen looked at Luo Qiao, whose gaze was so mushy it could make a person sick with sweetness. His heart bloomed with joy—Qiaoqiao was already getting into her role ahead of time.

Luo Qiao gave Lu Yichen a proud look, then turned and went inside to tidy up a bit, before the three of them left the family compound together.
