Chapter 667: Chapter 667: The Heirloom
Luo Qiao smiled and said, "It’s not as difficult as you think."
Auntie Li was somewhat nervous, "There’s something special about those flowers that I should pay attention to, so please let me know in advance so I can take care."
Luo Qiao looked at Auntie Li, who had made herself particularly well-groomed, which pleased Luo Qiao very much. "Auntie Li, how much do you expect for your salary each month?"
Auntie Li was a bit nervous, "You decide that for me. I really don’t know. The temporary workers in the town earn twenty dollars a month."
Luo Qiao nodded, "Then I will give you thirty dollars a month, room included but not board. You’ll live here from now on, with four days off each month, and of course, it’s okay if you coincide your days off with your son’s, like on Sundays."
Auntie Li stood up to thank her, "Thank you so much."
Luo Qiao said, "There’s a small patch of land behind the trees and the courtyard wall at the back. It’s not very big. If you like, you can plant some vegetables there to save quite a bit on groceries."
Auntie Li said, "How could I not want to? Miss Luo, rest assured, I will do my job well."
Luo Qiao raised her hand to have Auntie Li sit down, "Auntie Li, you don’t need to be so formal, and you don’t need to call me Miss Luo. ’Luo Qiao’ or ’Qiaoqiao’ are both fine. But I also need to make it clear that the courtyard and the house need to be cleaned every day.
Even though I don’t come to stay often, I might return at any time. Yichen introduced you to me, so I must explain these things in advance."
Auntie Li said, "Don’t worry. Yichen introduced me to such a light job, and you’re offering such generous pay, I’ll definitely do it well."
Luo Qiao looked at Auntie Li, "Auntie Li, may I ask, when can you start working?"
Auntie Li replied with a smile, "Right now. When I left, I told my youngest that if the job was suitable, I would just start working."
"Then who will take care of your youngest?"
"Our home is very close to the school, less than a five-minute walk, so he can live at home and eat at the school cafeteria."
Luo Qiao got up, "Then come with me, and I’ll show you around."
She first gave her a tour of the house, then went up to the rooftop which was also set up as a small garden, and finally to the backyard garden, pointing out the habits of various flowers.
She also pointed out the plot of land to Auntie Li, explaining that it was not very big, and planting some vegetables there wouldn’t affect the overall scenery of the garden.
After explaining all this, Luo Qiao took her to a guest room on the first floor, "Auntie Li, you’ll live in this room from now on."
Auntie Li replied, "Alright."
She gave Auntie Li a set of keys to the front gate and the yard gate, took her out for a walk to buy some things, and then Luo Qiao and Lu Yichen left together.
After driving away for a while, Lu Yichen said, "Qiaoqiao, I’m taking you to a nice place."
Luo Qiao looked at Lu Yichen, curious, "Where are we going?"
Lu Yichen smiled at the corners of his mouth, "You’ll know when we get there."
The car drove out of Capital City and kept going until it stopped by a river, with a wildflower meadow stretching ahead, a delightful sight. Luo Qiao looked into the distance, "Brother Chen, how did you find this place?"
Lu Yichen looked pleased that she liked it, "I passed by here once on a case and thought you would definitely like it."
The two followed the flower meadow forward. The river water was crystal clear. Luo Qiao picked up a small stone and threw it into the river, causing ripples to spread out in circles upon the surface.
Seeing her enjoy it, Lu Yichen joined in, skimming stones across the water. Luo Qiao, too, became enthusiastic and began to learn from Lu Yichen.
Luo Qiao found that skimming stones was a bit of an art, but the two enjoyed themselves until the sun set in the western sky.
Lu Yichen affectionately smoothed her stray hairs and pulled out a jade pendant, "This is for you."
Luo Qiao looked at the jade pendant in his hand, "Where did it come from?"
Lu Yichen looked down at the pendant, "This was left to me by my mom, and I heard it was passed down from my grandmother to her. Now, I’m giving it to you."
Luo Qiao said, "This pendant is clearly not ordinary, and since it was left by your mom, it’s better if you keep it for remembrance."
Lu Yichen looked at Luo Qiao, "It’s precisely because it’s not ordinary that I want to give it to you. This is a family heirloom that has been passed down through generations."
