Chapter 666: Chapter 666: Which Scoundrel Kidnapped You?
"Really, did you get some news?"
"I can’t say, but as long as you keep pushing, your younger brother-in-law will definitely be able to fulfill your wish."
"Hahaha, that’s great, that’s really great. You have no idea, your younger brother-in-law has almost become my obsession. Now I can rest easy with your assurance."
"Grandpa, I won’t make any more calls then. Please pass on my regards to everyone at home."
"Sure, sure, don’t worry, we’ll all be there."
Luo Qiao hung up the phone and dialed godmother Zhang Shulan’s office number, "Hello, could you please find Zhang Shulan for me?"
"One moment, Zhang Shulan, you’ve got a call."
"Hello, who is this?"
"Mom, it’s me, Qiaoqiao."
"Ah, Qiaoqiao, my dear girl, how come you’ve finally decided to call me?"
"Mom, I’ve got something to tell you. Please take a seat, okay?"
"You naughty girl, always beating around the bush with your mom. Go ahead, Mom’s listening."
As soon as Zhang Shulan said this, everyone in the office looked over. They were no strangers to her talking about her goddaughter.
"Mom, I’m getting engaged next Monday."
"What? Qiaoqiao, say that again."
"I’m getting engaged next Monday."
"With whom? Which lad has swept you off your feet?"
"Mom, please keep your voice down."
"Oh, Qiaoqiao, who are you getting engaged to? Do I know him? Why haven’t you mentioned him before?"
"Lu Yichen, Uncle knows him pretty well, and I reckon Dad should also know him."
"I know who you’re talking about, definitely a talented and handsome man. His father is Lu Xinyi, almost gave his own son’s credit to someone else. Your dad indeed knows him."
"Mom, can you make it over on Monday?"
"As you said before, ’absolutely.’ My daughter is getting engaged; of course, I’ll be there. I must meet your father-in-law and stepmother-in-law, let them know that not only the Luo Family stands behind you but also the Yuan Family."
"Mom, it’s great to have you. Thank you."
"No need to thank me. When the time comes, I’ll have your brothers come over too."
Luo Qiao burst into laughter, "Mom, are you planning to show them a little bit of our strength?"
"Enough, don’t laugh. You’re still young and might not understand, but sometimes a little intimidation can make them think twice before acting in the future. Anyway, your engagement is a big deal, and as your brothers, they definitely can’t miss it."
Because of these words, Luo Qiao felt a warm feeling inside: "Okay."
After hanging up the phone, Luo Qiao sat there, lost in thought, until her phone rang again, "Hello, who is this?"
"Qiaoqiao, it’s me, Yichen."
"Brother Chen, how did you know I was here?"
"I called grandma earlier, and she said you’d gone out. I figured you might be over there. I’m on my way to you now. Weren’t you looking for someone to take care of the yard? I’ve brought someone for you to meet."
"Okay, then come over in a bit."
Luo Qiao got up, took out her camera, and began snapping a few photos around the yard. After that, she moved to the backyard and took some more pictures before putting the camera away.
Seeing nothing else needed to be done, she settled in the pavilion to work on her novel "Meet You".
After writing nearly two Chapters, she heard the doorbell ring and started to pack up before going to the front yard to open the gate.
Lu Yichen walked in with a woman in her fifties, introducing her, "This is my fiancée Luo Qiao."
Then, turning to Luo Qiao, he said, "This is Auntie Li, she is my comrade’s mother, and her younger son is currently in his first year of high school. She’s looking for a job."
Luo Qiao smiled and said, "Auntie Li, please come inside."
It was then that Luo Qiao learned Auntie Li’s real name was Wang Erfeng. Many years ago, her husband had passed away early while saving someone. Her elder son was enlisted in the army, had gotten married and had children, and two years ago had been transferred to a military unit in the south.
Now it was just her and her younger son at home. They lived in a town on the outskirts of the Capital City, counted as urban residents, and didn’t have any land of their own. Her elder son was under a lot of pressure supporting everyone on his own.
She was hoping to find some work to ease her elder son’s burden.
Luo Qiao explained, "Auntie Li, the work here is pretty simple. It’s mainly about taking good care of the yard, cleaning daily, and especially taking care of the flowers and plants in the front and back yards."
Auntie Li nodded and said, "I used to grow some flowers and plants at home myself, but I’m not sure if I can take good care of the ones here in the yard."
She had noticed the flowers planted along the courtyard wall when she came in. She had never seen them before and was worried she might not be able to take proper care of them.
