Chapter 603: Chapter 603 Pen Name Xiao Yao

Upon hearing Luo Qiao’s words, everyone laughed, and someone said, "We can take care of her in life, but in teaching, we still need Professor Feng to give us more guidance."

Everyone echoed, "Right, right, right."

After expressing her gratitude, Luo Qiao didn’t want to stay any longer as everyone in the office was preparing lessons: "Madam, I’ll be taking my leave now. Be careful when you all head home after work."

Feng Shumin smiled and said, "Got it, you be careful as well."

Luo Qiao nodded and placed the remaining half-pack of candy on her mentor’s desk, "Keep this and enjoy it slowly."

She said goodbye to the teachers in the office before leaving.

After Luo Qiao had left, someone in the office remarked, "Professor Feng, your little apprentice is really something, quite thoughtful."

Feng Shumin smiled and said, "Yes, she is indeed a good kid."

"Professor Feng, your little apprentice is also quite the spender; those rain boots are not cheap."

Feng Shumin felt uneasy upon hearing this. The implication was clear for anyone to hear: "The child can earn as well as spend. That’s just the way she is."

"Isn’t your apprentice still a high school student? Where does she earn money from? Professor Feng, you really shouldn’t embellish your apprentice’s accomplishments."

"Her pen name is Xiao Yao, a name I believe everyone here is familiar with."

At that revelation, the office erupted. A young teacher who was a fan of Luo Qiao excitedly said, "What? She is Xiao Yao? Ahh, what have I missed?"

Feng Shumin nodded, "Yes, she’s Xiao Yao."

After Feng Shumin said this, she returned to her seat without further comment. The female teacher who had spoken offensively stood there, her face flushed with shame.

Though the others in the office were unaware, Feng Shumin knew why that woman had made such a remark. She was the cousin of her elder daughter-in-law, and not yet removed within the five degrees of mourning. Certainly, she must have felt that she and her husband’s salaries were subsidizing their little apprentice, and this was her way of protesting for her niece.

However, just because Feng Shumin didn’t openly confront her didn’t mean she was willing to take her nonsense. Revealing her apprentice’s pen name in front of everyone in the office would probably mean the end of their peace and quiet.

Right, the fact that Luo Qiao’s pen name was Xiao Yao was known only to those closest to her. Even her eldest uncle and youngest uncle’s families knew only that Luo Qiao was writing and publishing works, but they had no idea she was actually Xiao Yao.

Luo Qiao disliked trouble and preferred to keep a low profile while quietly making money.

By the time Luo Qiao got home, the snow was already three to four centimeters thick. With the snow still coming down relentlessly, it seemed it wouldn’t stop any time soon. Some households in the alley had already begun clearing snow off their roofs, fearing a collapse.

Fortunately, when they built the house, they used their connections to get some sturdy tiles, fearing that if ever their children weren’t around, it would be troublesome and unsafe for the old couple to shovel snow themselves. It appeared their concerns had been warranted.

Upon entering, she saw Grandpa standing under the eaves: "Grandpa, what are you doing outside? Isn’t it cold?"

Luo Daoren asked, "Why did you come back late?"

Noticing what Luo Qiao was carrying: "Did you buy more things?"

Walking up next to her grandfather, Luo Qiao smiled, "Luckily I bought some things today. If this snow keeps up, we might not even get out the door tomorrow."

Luo Daoren took the woven bag from his granddaughter’s hand, commenting on its weight, "Why is it so heavy?"

As Luo Qiao shook off the snow from herself and closed her umbrella, she also set down the items she was carrying over her arm. Hearing the commotion, Zhou Guifang came out and, seeing the stuff by the door, gave Luo Qiao a smack on the back.

Though it sounded loud, it didn’t hurt at all: "Why are you spending money again? We lack nothing at home. Wouldn’t it be better to save up instead of spending so recklessly?"

Luo Qiao chuckled affectionately, "Grandma, look at this weather. Who knows how long until the snow stops? I had to get some supplies in advance for you and Grandpa. I’ll be traveling for a few days soon; I can’t leave without making sure you’re both well taken care of."

Zhou Guifang felt warmed by her words but still maintained a stern face, "We need to be frugal in our daily lives. If everyone were like you, we’d be at a loss during times of need."

Luo Qiao wrapped her arms around her grandmother, acting coquettishly, "Grandma, there’s nothing wrong with being frugal, but I earn money to make sure you and Grandpa live a better life. With money in hand, your granddaughter doesn’t skimp when it comes to caring for you two elders."
