Chapter 530: Chapter 530: Killing the Chicken to Scare the Monkey, Slapped in the Face

Caught off guard, Wang Aijuan fell to the ground with a scraped chin. Ignoring the pain, she quickly scrambled up, fearfully and said to Luo Qiao, "Don’t come any closer, hurting someone is against the law."

Luo Qiao said disdainfully, "Just a moment ago you were teaching me how to behave, and now you’re cowering."

Wang Aiguo, the son of the Wang family, came out of the house and said, "Coming into someone’s home to attack them, that’s not right."

Luo Qiao was even more disgusted by this kind of person and cursed unreservedly, "So you were dead at home just now, huh? You didn’t hear your sister causing trouble at my house, and now you come out and say this, can’t you show a bit of shame?"

Wu Hongyue, the daughter-in-law of the Wang family, hurried out of the house and pushed her husband aside, "Luo Qiao, I’m sorry. I know they were in the wrong today. Please, considering the good neighborly relations we’ve had on ordinary days, forgive them this once."

Luo Qiao glanced at Wu Hongyue, knowing today’s incident had nothing to do with her, "Fine, since you’ve said as much, I’ll give you face. But let me make myself clear, if they dare to do anything nasty to my house because of today’s incident, don’t blame me for not showing mercy."

Wu Hongyue gratefully said, "Don’t worry, I’ll keep an eye on them and make sure they don’t cause any more trouble."

Only then did Luo Qiao put away the knife in her hand and turned around to go back to her own yard. Seeing there was no more drama to witness, the onlookers dispersed.

Opinions on Luo Qiao’s actions today were mixed. Some thought the Wang family deserved to be driven out for their underhanded ways.

Others said Luo Qiao was too fierce; it’s wrong, after all, for neighbors to fight.

But Luo Qiao didn’t care what they said. As long as the Wang family no longer bothered her, that was all that mattered.

After finishing the cooking, Stone came home and learned from others about the Wang family coming to start trouble next door. He immediately left the alley to give Lu Yichen a heads-up.

Lu Yichen had left him some pocket money when he departed, telling him to notify him if anything came up.

Stone recounted to Lu Yichen what he had heard that day, and as he hung up the phone, he kindly reminded him, "Brother, remember our train tonight."

Lu Yichen laughed, "I’ll come to pick you guys up tomorrow morning."

Stone could feel Lu Yichen’s good mood, even through the phone.

After hanging up, Lu Yichen’s smile faded and he immediately made another call, gave a few instructions, then leaned back in his chair lost in thought. He had only been gone a short while, but someone had already gone looking for trouble; if they dared to cross the line, they would have to pay a price.

Fortunately, the little girl was returning to Capital City tomorrow, otherwise he’d have to rush back overnight.

In Capital City, at the Wei Family Courtyard, Ning Xueling covered her face where a handprint was branded. She couldn’t believe her eyes, gazing at Wei Zixiong, the pain on her face far less intense than the heartache she felt. She had not expected that he would slap her without hesitation to protect his daughter.

Ning Xueling, tears streaming down her face, looked at Wei Zixiong, and after a long while, she slowly stood up. Her heart was truly cold now. She had stayed a few days in a dormitory at her workplace, and Wei Zixiong had coaxed her for several days before she agreed to come back.

But to her dismay, not only were her stepchildren disrespectful to her, Wei Zixiong had slapped her in front of his own son and daughter.

Today, Wei Hongyan had run into one of her classmates at the department store, who let slip that she was studying vocal music with a professor from the Music Academy. When Hongyan came back, she threw a tantrum.

She insinuated that Ning Xueling, as her stepmother, had not taken her affairs to heart, claiming a stepmother is just no good, at first Ning Xueling bore it, but the accusations grew uglier.

They called her a bad woman who maligned her own mother, elevating her mother as a paragon who suffered through life’s hardest years with her father, enshrined forever in his heart.

They said their house needed nothing more than a free maid, and that’s the only reason her father married her. They accused her of having no shame, abandoning her husband and child.

After suffering at the Wei family for so long, Ning Xueling finally erupted. She charged at Wei Hongyan and slapped her, and just then Wei Zixiong walked in. Without a word, he struck Ning Xueling across the face.
