Chapter 529: Chapter 529: If You Can’t, Don’t Pretend You Can by Acting Tough

Luo Qiao laughed and said, "Could Wang Daniang lend me a thousand yuan? I’ll pay you back after the New Year."

Upon hearing this, Wang Daniang’s eyes widened with indignation, "You’ve got to be kidding, girl. Not only do I not have that much money, but even if I did, who would lend it to someone with no relation like you?"

Luo Qiao laughed, "Exactly, since we’re not related, I’m under no obligation to lend you my house. I’ve got things to do, so I’ll be going inside now."

After Luo Qiao entered the yard, Wang Daniang hadn’t expected this seemingly amicable young girl to be so formidable.

Turned away in anger, she returned to her own yard, yet the neighbors nearby had heard everything and showed contemptuous expressions towards her. They too would be reluctant to lend their houses to such people.

The little brother-in-law of the Wang family’s daughter didn’t bother about cleanliness, not just the children but the adults too, wearing filthy clothes that were shiny with grime on the front and sleeves, never bothering to take them off and wash them, yet still strolling around outside.

Their children would either wipe their runny noses on their sleeves or smear their faces with their hands, leaving their faces covered in a layer of filth, truly an unpleasant sight.

If the house were lent to such people, it would be enough to disgust someone to death.

After Luo Qiao returned, she began to prepare dinner, not expecting that before the meal was ready, Wang Daniang came over again with her daughter and her mother-in-law.

Luo Qiao was truly fed up with this family.

Wang Daniang’s daughter, Wang Aijuan, entered with a hostile look, "What’s wrong with you, girl? Aren’t neighbors supposed to help each other out? You’ll need people’s help someday. At your young age, you don’t have a bit of compassion or understanding of social etiquette."

Luo Qiao’s face lost its last trace of courtesy as she said coldly, "Get out."

Wang Aijuan was incredulous, "What did you say?"

Luo Qiao replied with a frosty face, "I told you to get lost. Who are you to lecture me? If you can’t afford to live, don’t try to puff yourself up. It’s not enough that you cause trouble for your own family, now you want to bother the neighbors too.

How am I in the wrong for not wanting to lend my house? Look at how scruffy you are. Where do you get the gall to stand in front of others and speak so righteously? Just get lost."

Wang Aijuan had learned before that Luo Qiao seemed amiable and didn’t expect her to be so tough. She argued, "My mom said you wouldn’t be staying here over the New Year, so lending us the house for a few days wouldn’t do any harm. Don’t you have any sympathy at all?"

Luo Qiao stepped forward and kicked the woman out the door. This move shocked Wang Daniang and Wang Aijuan’s mother-in-law, who quickly ran to help her up.

Crying out in pain, Wang Aijuan’s mother-in-law turned to Luo Qiao and said, "How could you hit someone?"

Luo Qiao stood at the door, "Who gave you the right to bully your way into my house? Why can’t I hit someone? Trying to morally blackmail me, huh? If that’s the case, be ashamed for once. You’re not satisfied with causing a ruckus in your own yard, now you want to expand your territory, and perhaps take over the whole alley next?"

Wang Aijuan said, "You hurt me, you have to pay."

Luo Qiao snorted with laughter, "I’ve seen shameless, but never as shameless as you. You want me to pay up? Alright, just wait a second."

She turned around, went back into the yard, grabbed a knife from the kitchen, and came out again, "I think it’s better to see some blood when compensating; that way, the payout is bigger."

As she brandished the knife and prepared to charge, Wang Aijuan scrambled up from the ground and ran into her family’s yard, slamming the door shut behind her.

Luo Qiao shouted after her, "Don’t run! You’re so poor you come looking for trouble, trying to swindle money from your neighbors, but I’m more than willing to cooperate with you."

Her actions stunned the onlookers from the lane who now knew better than to provoke this seemingly gentle person; she was even ready to wield a knife.

Wang Aijuan thought she was off the hook, but Luo Qiao walked steadily to the Wang family’s front door and kicked it open, sending the door and Wang Aijuan, who was leaning against it, flying out.
