Chapter 524 Bringing a Partner Home
Chapter 524: Chapter 524 Bringing a Partner Home
After everything was packed, Lu Yichen repeatedly reminded the two of them about some things to be aware of, as he was taking the train back to Capital City later that evening.
He had originally wanted Luo Qiao and Stone to stay in his yard because it had central heating, but Luo Qiao did not agree.
She had made a small mattress for Stone out of rabbit fur they had saved over the past two years, and laid it in his room. Besides, they would only be staying there for a little over a month at most, once the holidays were over, they would return to Capital City.
That day, Luo Qiao was at home making candied pear soup when she heard a commotion next door. Standing in the courtyard, she heard the daughter-in-law from next door, with a tinge of grievance in her voice, say, "Mom, our house only has so many livable rooms. Where will my eldest sister-in-law and her family stay when they come back?"
Her mother-in-law responded, "It is a bit crowded with more people, but we can just squeeze in. Tomorrow we’ll go to the recycling station to see if there are any old beds. We can set up a few more beds in the house. Once they get settled here, they’ll move out. I just can’t bring myself to refuse them."
The daughter-in-law continued, "Mom, you say it so easily, but the house is not that big to begin with. Once we add the beds, how can anyone even move around? And what if they can’t find another place to live? They might end up staying indefinitely. Mom, you know it’s easy to invite trouble but hard to send it away.
If it were just my younger sister-in-law’s family, I could reluctantly accept it, but we’re talking about her whole in-law’s family coming over, Mom, this is no joke. I really don’t want every day in our house to be like a zoo."
"I’ve already agreed, what can I do? We can’t discuss this any further, I know none of you are happy, but you owe her this. Back when the family needed someone to go to the countryside, your eldest sister took the initiative. Now that she can return to the city, isn’t it right for you all to bear some inconvenience? Besides, your eldest sister said it’s only temporary, and she will move out once she finds a place after the new year."
"Then why must they come back before the New Year? Can’t they come back after it’s over?"
Luo Qiao listened to the conversation next door, guessing that the neighbor’s daughter, who had been sent to the countryside, was returning to the city. She glanced at the house next door, thinking that she too would soon have to take her final exams, and then it would be time to pack up and go back to Capital City.

In Capital City, Yuan Weicheng finally brought his partner back to the courtyard home, and the news spread throughout the compound in less than half a day.
Old Master Yuan looked at Jin Jing, the military doctor sitting opposite him, and inquired about some family matters. Jin Jing was a bit reserved, but answered each question.
The housemaid, who had recently joined the family, was busy in the kitchen. When Yuan Jianing returned and saw that her younger uncle was back, with a woman sitting on the sofa who didn’t seem much older than her, she thought this must be the military doctor. She was quite attractive, but whether she genuinely liked her younger uncle was unknown, especially since rumors suggested she had pursued him only after learning about his background.
But looking at her younger uncle, he seemed to have fallen for her already.
After hanging up her heavy coat, she greeted them, "Grandpa, younger uncle, I’m back."
Then she walked over with a smile and said hello.
Yuan Weicheng introduced them, and Yuan Jianing said with a smile, "It feels like you aren’t much older than me, are you?"
Jin Jing smiled and replied, "I’m five years older than you, twenty-two this year."
Yuan Jianing joked, "That really puts me in a difficult spot. Calling you auntie would make you sound too old, and sister would be the wrong generation entirely. But calling you by your name doesn’t seem polite enough."
I’m really in a bind!
Everyone in the room laughed, and Yuan Weicheng said, "Call her auntie. You call your younger uncle by his name easily enough, without any embarrassment."
Thinking to himself what his mischievous niece was up to, if they called her sister, wouldn’t that make him and Jin Jing a generation apart.
Jin Jing laughed, "I’m only five years older than you. Just call me by my name, there’s no need for such formalities."
Yuan Jianing glanced at her younger uncle, thinking to herself about her tough luck, when the phone rang with a ’ding ling ling, ding ling ling’.
Yuan Jianing was saved by the ringing and rushed to answer the call, "Hello, good day."
"Sister Jianing, it’s me, Qiaoqiao."
"Qiaoqiao, when are you coming back?"
"I’ll return to Capital City a few days after my exams are over. How is Grandpa?"
"Ah, as soon as you call, you ask about Grandpa. You don’t even inquire whether I’m doing well."
