Chapter 243: Chapter 243: Burning with Impatience

Luo Haotian asked him to inquire about any abnormalities at the hospital from his wife, Zhong Cuiping, after work.

After hanging up the phone, Zhang Jianjun became uneasy. It had been him and his wife who had gone to the hospital together. His wife had kept watch over their child the entire time. How could they now say the child had been swapped?

He couldn’t wait until after work. Out of anxiousness, he quickly gathered his things and returned to his family quarters. Upon entering the courtyard, he called out, "Cuiping, Cuiping, where are you?"

As Zhang Jianjun drank the cool boiled water on the table and saw Zhong Cuiping enter, he hurriedly said, "Something’s happened."

Zhong Cuiping responded, "Why are you shouting? What’s happened?"

Zhang Jianjun replied, "Just now, Luo Haotian called and said that his little daughter was switched at birth. He asked me to check with you if there was anything unusual at the hospital back then."

Zhong Cuiping’s head started to spin. If the baby really had been switched, then they would be the culprits. She suddenly felt a chill over her body and her legs went weak.

Seeing his wife’s reaction, Zhang Jianjun quickly stepped forward to support her and suggested she sit down, "Don’t be scared. Since this has happened, there’s no use worrying. We just need to try and remember if anything went wrong back then."

Zhong Cuiping was completely confused and couldn’t recall anything. She only knew that the child had been switched right under her nose without her knowing. How was she going to explain this to others?

Zhong Cuiping thought for a long time but couldn’t figure out what could have gone wrong. It was only when her younger daughter came home and learned about the situation that she asked, "Mom, did you ever leave the ward during that time?"

After thinking for a moment, Zhong Cuiping suddenly remembered, "Yes, I did leave for a while. I went to the restroom. Oh my God, it couldn’t have been switched during that time, could it?"

Suddenly she said, "Jianjun, which village in Chaoyang Commune was that couple sharing the ward with Ning Xueling from? I remember we talked to them."

Zhang Jianjun suddenly realized something and looked up at his daughter. Father and daughter’s eyes widened simultaneously. Zhang Xiao said, "It can’t be such a coincidence."

Zhang Jianjun stated, "Alright, I’m going to borrow a car from the regiment now. We’ll head to the city later. Cuiping, isn’t your cousin Cheng Huifang working at that hospital?"

Zhong Cuiping thought for a moment, "Yes, she is at that hospital. I’ll call her right now."

The people in the records room, upon knowing they were looking for Ning Xueling’s hospital admission record again, murmured quietly, "What’s happened now? Several groups of people have been asking for Ning Xueling’s hospital admission record already. Thankfully, these documents haven’t been destroyed."

Zhong Cuiping’s cousin Cheng Huifang worked at the hospital. She helped them find the admission records for the ward a few days before and after that year. They saw records for Gao Suhua from Qingshan Village and Feng Hui from the city area. Thankfully, these records were still there.

Zhang Jianjun and his daughter Zhang Xiao were unsettled. Luo Qiao was the child they were looking for.

Zhong Cuiping, observing the expressions of father and daughter, asked, "What’s wrong with you two?"

Zhang Xiao embraced her mother, saying, "Mom, fate is indeed a strange thing. The girl named Luo Qiao who saved us last time is the child we’ve been looking for from back then."

Zhong Cuiping, somewhat in disbelief, looked toward her husband. Zhang Jianjun said, "If there’s no mistake, she is that child. The last time we met Luo Qiao on the road, she indeed told us about her background."

Zhong Cuiping said, "Then what are you waiting for? Call Luo Haotian right away and tell him about this."

The family didn’t even bother to return to their military base to make the call; instead, they went straight to the post office not far from the hospital and placed a call to Luo Haotian, relaying everything they knew and suspected.

When Luo Haotian heard about Luo Qiao, his eyes reddened with heartache, feeling certain that Luo Qiao was his daughter, wishing he could fly to her right then.

After ending the call, he dialed his parents and briefly relayed the matter before arranging for someone to buy train tickets to Ji City for the next day. Right now, he was burning with impatience.

Upon hearing Zhang Jianjun’s simple retelling, realizing how tough his daughter’s life had been for the past fifteen years, he, a grown man, started to cry. His outburst startled Ning Hongda, his big uncle, who just came in through the door.
