Chapter 239: Chapter 239 Heading South
Luo Qiao took the lunch box to the front and rinsed it out, pouring the congee into it. Tian Fang saw it was white rice porridge and looked anxious, as if wanting to say something but she was stopped by Luo Qiao’s glance. Tian Fang glanced at the people in the compartment and had to keep quiet.
In a soft voice, Luo Qiao said, "Sister-in-law, feed the child a bit first. Traveling is already hard enough; don’t let the child go hungry and get ill."
Tian Fang was grateful and could only say, "Thank you," to express her gratitude.
On the train, Luo Qiao took great care of Tian Fang and her child. They were also getting off at Jinan. In the evening when delivering meals, Luo Qiao quietly reminded Tian Fang to be vigilant, to take care of her valuables and look after the child.
After washing their lunch boxes and filling them with boiling water, she then left.
Returning to her own compartment, Luo Qiao took out her lunch box and began to eat, white porridge with rice mixed with flour and her homemade mushroom sauce. She didn’t dare take out green onion pancakes anymore, let alone meat-stuffed buns.
At noon, the teenager sitting in front had been eyeing everyone else’s food. There was a ’Big Brother’ in front of her who brought some marinated meat, and the boy’s grandmother actually asked for some, but was refused.
The old lady even said a girl shouldn’t eat so well, or else she might ’cut short her years’, which led to a man scolding her severely. If it weren’t for her old age, the ’Big Brother’ in front might have taken it further.
What kinds of people are these? She felt like cursing.
The train didn’t arrive at Jinan until the second day. Luo Qiao helped Tian Fang with her belongings off the train and saw that a soldier had come to pick her up. She then confidently handed over the belongings to him and said goodbye to Tian Fang.
Tian Fang had the soldier leave Luo Qiao their address, asking her to visit them when she had time, and then they parted ways.
Luo Qiao went to the ticket booth and bought a ticket for a southbound train, which happened to leave in half an hour. After purchasing the ticket, she saw that a long line had already formed for ticket checking.
Luo Qiao glanced at the long queue, went to the restroom first, and then joined the queue to enter the station.
Behind her was a couple, carrying a pair of baskets on a shoulder pole, one filled with goods and the other seating a child. The child was quite adorable, and Luo Qiao played with him for a while.
For convenience in boarding the station, they picked up the child and took off the carrying pole.
It was then that a woman’s voice rang out, "Catch the thief, catch the thief!"
At the shout, a young man suddenly started running. Quick as a flash, Luo Qiao grabbed the nearest empty basket and said simultaneously, "Borrowing your basket for a moment."
With the throw of the basket, the fleeing man was knocked to the ground, and those chasing him soon caught up, quickly subduing him and finding the money wrapped in a handkerchief that he had stolen from the woman.
The young man kept begging for mercy, but security arrived and took him away.
Luo Qiao went over to pick up the basket she had thrown and returned it to the couple, saying somewhat apologetically, "I’m sorry for using your basket without asking."
The couple said it was no problem and praised Luo Qiao’s swift action, admiring her greatly. She reached into her pocket and handed two candies to the child in the woman’s arms, saying, "Here are two candies for the kid, as compensation for using your ’vehicle’ without permission, alright?"
The child did not reach out directly for the candies but looked up at his mother. The woman said, "You’re too polite; the basket isn’t damaged, no need to give him candy."
Luo Qiao smiled and said, "It’s fine, let the child have them."
Then the woman smiled and told the child, "Sister has given you candies, you should say thank you."
The child in her arms quietly said, "Thank you, sister."
Luo Qiao replied, "You’re welcome."
It was soon their turn to have their tickets checked. Luo Qiao boarded the train, found her seat, and sat down, feeling very hungry. This train was departing at midday and would not reach its destination until the next evening.
After everyone had settled down, she took out her lunch box to eat something.
In Qingshan Village, Zhang Dezheng’s family had gone to the county town early. They had received news that their daughter would be sent to a juvenile detention center in the city the next day, and they wanted to visit her today.
Arriving in the county town early, Zhang Dongze initially wanted to have some food with his parents, but Zhang Dezheng and his wife had no appetite and instead waited early outside the detention center.
