Chapter 233: Chapter 233 Good Luck

Luo Qiao finished speaking, shouldered her carrying basket, and left the Yao Family. She had only come by on her way, and now that the matter was settled, staying there would only be awkward for everyone.

As Luo Qiao was about to exit the family compound, she overheard two people talking, "Do you see those two people around the corner outside? Aren’t they the father and son that Yao Chengxuan kicked out at noon today?"

Following the direction the speakers were pointing, Luo Qiao saw that it indeed was Zhang Dezheng and his son Zhang Dongze. She didn’t want to criticize the feelings of a father desperate to protect his daughter, but she looked down on those who disregarded others’ feelings for the sake of their daughter.

His actions would only embolden Zhang Qiaoyan, allowing her to harm others even more brazenly.

Luo Qiao approached some children playing nearby, "Hello, little friends, my treat, have some candy."

The older children stopped the younger ones from reaching out for the candy, "Who are you?"

Luo Qiao smiled, "I’m not a bad person, I just want to ask something."

The wary older child asked, "What do you want to ask about?"

Luo Qiao smiled, "Is there another exit in our residential compound aside from the main gate at the front?"

The child asked Luo Qiao, "What do you need that for?"

Without hiding anything, Luo Qiao replied, "There are two men standing around the corner outside. They’re blocking my way, and I would prefer not to run into them, so I’m wondering if there’s another way out?"

After taking a quick look outside, the child believed what Luo Qiao said, "Come with us."

A group of children led Luo Qiao through twists and turns until they reached a side of the compound. They then guided her through the yard, where a house was currently under construction. The house conveniently faced the street and had a narrow passageway on the side, which had not yet been sealed off.

The children led Luo Qiao under the wooden scaffolding, and once she was out, she pulled another handful of fruit candy from her pocket, handed out two pieces to each child, and said, "Thank you all for today, now run along, and remember not to accept candy from strangers outside in the future, just to be safe from being kidnapped."

The children laughed and ran off, shouting back, "We’ll remember that!"

Luo Qiao oriented herself and turned to leave the residential compound.

Only after Luo Qiao had left did Wu Peiling slap her thigh in realization, wondering how she allowed Luo Qiao to slip away. Yao Chengxuan had mentioned at noon that the village chief of Qingshan Village said Luo Qiao had come to the city to get help with medication.

Frustrated, she got into another argument with her eldest daughter.

Luo Qiao had purchased her train ticket, visited the Yao Family, and had no other business. Passing by the post office, she noticed it was not busy and walked in.

She addressed a postal employee, "Hello, I’m looking for some old postage stamps to purchase."

The older sister, seeing that the requester was a pretty young lady, asked, "How many do you want?"

Luo Qiao replied, "I’d like to have one set of each kind, or scattered ones if sets are not available."

The older sister got up and went to the storage room, returning with a large box, "We’ve got some here. They were gathered when we were clearing out the storage room after some renovations. Take a look and pick out what you need."

Luo Qiao selected some stamps she wanted, paid for them, and then inquired, "Do you have any full sheets of the Monkey stamps?"

The older sister checked her and turned to look, "We still have three complete sheets."

Luo Qiao quickly spoke up, "I’ll take them all."

With eighty stamps per sheet priced at eight cents each and three loose ones left, Luo Qiao didn’t hesitate. After all, money was at stake here. The last time she went to send a letter in the city, the post office had run out of the Monkey stamps. She had also asked at the commune’s postal bureau and found none. Now that she had stumbled upon them, she decided to secure them all. The older sister, realizing that Luo Qiao wanted all of them, kindly reminded her, "One sheet contains eighty stamps, are you sure you want them all?"

Luo Qiao no doubt replied, "Yes, all of them, they’re for a friend."

Inwardly, she was thrilled; she hadn’t expected to come across such a fortunate find today. She had even mentioned before that she intended to look for used stamps on discarded envelopes at the recycling station, but unfortunately, she had never stumbled upon any.

Returning home in high spirits, she locked the front door and entered her space. She was heading south tomorrow and needed to prepare some food to store for easy access.
