Chapter 1023: Chapter 1023 Why Should I Believe You Guys?
While Luo Qiao was trying to come up with a plan, Lu Yichen had already arrived at the village that had suffered from that strange illness with a team of people. Upon learning they had already left by car, he immediately followed without stopping.
Following the traces left by the vehicle, they pursued them all the way. Just as the three men were about to make their move, they saw a car coming up the mountain, causing slight panic, and the leader ordered them to act.
Luo Qiao made a decision immediately, "Stop, let these people go. I’ll go with you, otherwise, once you start, you might not all make it back in one piece."
The man glanced at Luo Qiao, thinking it was a good idea as they didn’t want to arouse any suspicion, primarily since they were targeting this woman to avoid drawing connections to the Jun family.
With the woman suggesting it herself, it was opportune to take her away. The three exchanged glances, and one of them asked, "What makes you think you can save these people?"
Luo Qiao calmly said, "If you dare to act, we will resist with all our might. It’s death either way, so why let ourselves be slaughtered? Besides, you’ve seen the police cars coming up the mountain. If you act, be ready to be caught."
The three men looked at the people opposite them, knowing she was right. Although these people lacked the power to fight, they could delay them significantly.
The leader then said, "Walk over here with your hands up."
"Why should I trust you?" Luo Qiao responded.
Seeing that the cars approaching from the mountain would soon catch up, Luo Qiao, fearing their desperation, said, "Let them all get on the bus, then I will go with you."
Running out of time, the few men agreed, but Professor Guo and a few other professors acquainted with Luo Qiao disagreed, along with the two local workers who absolutely refused.
Luo Qiao turned to the two local staff, "Do you want these elderly professors to get hurt?"
The two men shook their heads, "No, no, no, but we cannot let a young girl risk her life."
Impatient, one of the men pulled out a baton from his waist. Luo Qiao, also anxious, said, "Hurry up, get the professors on the bus; if you can’t fight, stop talking nonsense."
Then she pushed the people onto the bus, recognizing that these few were desperados who, if truly cornered, would definitely commit murder.
As Luo Qiao pushed Professor Guo onto the bus, she whispered, "Don’t worry, professor. I can protect myself. Without you by my side, I have no reservations and can act freely."
Listening to her, Professor Guo, though still very worried, didn’t delay any longer. Once everyone was on the bus, the man holding the baton against the driver’s head said to Luo Qiao, "Get on."
He indicated the unlicensed car parked along the roadside. Luo Qiao quickly got in; she now wanted a quiet place to deal with these people, but she also wanted to see how many others were waiting to help them.
Since the Jun family had provoked her repeatedly, she was unapologetically unbothered now.
Seeing Luo Qiao on board, the men hurriedly drove off as the mountainous cars were almost upon them.
The passengers in the unlicensed car saw it driving off. The driver quickly turned around to meet the approaching cars from down the mountain. A few minutes later, they joined the cars coming up the mountain. The driver immediately exited the vehicle and approached the leading police car to brief them on the situation.
Lu Yichen listened to the report, infuriated that they had let Luo Qiao face this alone. But he understood why she did it, and without another thought, he got into his car and chased after them.
The road now was all dirt; he followed the tire tracks continuously forward, his heart burning with urgency, almost wishing his car could fly.
Ahead, Luo Qiao, having gotten into the car, remained impressively calm. The men probably thought she, a young woman, couldn’t cause much trouble, so they didn’t bind her hands or feet.
Luo Qiao sat flanked by a man on either side, arms crossed, head bowed pretending to be scared, her eyes closed, conserving energy, but her ears stayed alert, listening intently to their conversation.
