Chapter 845: Just Overreacting
Chapter 845: Chapter 845: Just Overreacting
"Yes, Your Majesty," they responded in unison and finally went back to work.
Ferdinand had to go to the other territories as well for this same reason and had to repeat his words for the nth time in each territory, albeit with a bit of difference depending on the situation and the people’s complaints.
He had just finished saying the same speech in one of the territories when the ground suddenly shook.
Some of the people lost their footing and in the end the knights were the ones who immediately went to help those who were not able to remain standing.
’This is... Why is Alvis here? And in this state?’ Ferdinand frowned.
Focusing on Alvis’ presence, he could tell Alvis was in the Alba Estate.
’Wait, isn’t that where Alwin was earlier?!’
Suddenly feeling nervous, Ferdinand stiffened when he realized the reason Alvis would be this furious and head here without a word.
’Did something happen to Alwin?!’
There was an inexplicable pain in his chest simply at the thought. Alwin had just returned after going missing last time. It was why he was tasked with teleportation and returned to the Magic Tower immediately afterwards.
Ferdinand closed his eyes and focused on Alwin’s presence.
He sighed in relief when he found Alwin’s presence in the Magic Tower. He was already back there as he was supposed to be.
However, Zion who was supposed to be in the battlefield at the borders was in the Magic Tower.
’Did Zion get badly injured?’
If that was the case, then, it was reasonable that Alvis would also be furious. He wouldn’t want to lose an elder elf when there are only a few left.
But who would be able to injure Zion?
Alwin had much more mana than Zion but Zion was experienced in the battlefield and could fend for himself even at close combat.
Zion was well-balanced when compared to Alwin who mostly focused on magic and research.
Here in Valeria, in all the wars Ferdinand went to with Zion assisting him, the latter never got injured. Not even a scratch.
’Something unexpected must have happened for even Zion to not have thought of in advance,’ Ferdinand figured.
Just as he was about to contact them, Zion teleported to the Alba Estate where Alvis was.
Ferdinand sighed in relief.
If Zion was able to teleport that far, then, he was not fatally injured.
’Ah, I must be overthinking things. Who would be able to injure Alwin or Zion in Crux? I have already told them to always have a defense protective barrier on them.’
Perhaps something else pissed off Alvis and made him come here.
Ferdinand was not sure about that elf king’s moods anyway.
The latter was almost always not in the best mood when they met and always complained about how he missed out on watching over Alwin’s growth because Ferdinand hid him.
It was never Ferdinand’s intention to hide Alwin from the elves though. He simply did not know Alwin was of the royal family.
And Alwin told him he no longer had parents but could not exactly remember what happened. Not until recently.
Just to be sure, Ferdinand asked Alwin if something happened for Alvis to head here himself.
Alwin dismissed it and said Alvis was just overreacting as usual.
"Your Majesty, the situation in Sibruh had escalated. They are requesting help," the Knight Captain called Ferdinand’s attention.
"Alright, let’s head over there," Ferdinand said since he had promised Countess Frieda that he would provide support for her if she performed better than her father.
The countess had been doing well since then so Ferdinand must keep his word as well.
People had become violent in Sibruh thinking that the former Count’s ways would happen again.
They feared that they would not receive any supplies for the winter. Thus, they had decided to take arms to ensure they had something to eat as winter rages on.
Countess Frida was still in Riva for the yearly meetings so her parents and siblings were the ones left in the castle.
If they still did not fear Ferdinand’s warning that he would punish them seriously this time if they did something again, they might have not distributed the supplies to the people as they were instructed which was why the people took arms.
When Ferdinand headed to Sibruh, he learned that it was not the Count’s family who did it this time.
It was the other nobles who were supposed to distribute the supplies equally among the people. They held 40% of the supplies instead of giving out more for the people.
When asked about it, the said households even thought they were entitled to 40% or even more. They even thought they were already being generous with giving out 60%.
Now it was obvious that Count Sibruh was not the only problem. The count’s subjects were also used to the corruption and had been practicing it for so long that they did not even think they were in the wrong.
Thus, Ferdinand decided not to hand over any more supplies to the noble households here and simply give them their share.
It would be more work for the knights but Ferdinand tasked his knights to distribute the supplies among the common folk instead of letting the ruling households and their underlings to do the distribution.
This way, they could ensure the noble households would not horde and the common folk were receiving enough supplies as they intended.
With everything going on, Ferdinand got busy with the situation in Sibruh and the other territories for the rest of the day.
Late into the night, he received word that the war with Crux was a victory.
Ferdinand already expected it so he was not surprised at all. He never declared war without ensuring they would win.
And just like all the wars he had declared in the past years, he was sure this one would be a victory so he was not worried about how it would turn out.
He also knew his men were more than capable enough to win it without him.
The knights were elated by the news and it helped increase their morale after today’s hard work.
